多模态隐喻在高中英语阅读教学中的应用研究Abstract:ThisstudyaimstoexploretheapplicationofmultimodalmetaphorsinhighschoolEnglishreadingteaching.Byanalyzingthecharacteristicsandfunctionsofmultimodalmetaphors,thisresearchprovidesanewperspectiveforimprovingstudents'Englishreadingcomprehensionskills.Thestudyadoptsqualitativeresearchmethods,includingliteraturereviewandcasestudies,toanalyzetheapplicationofmultimodalmetaphorsinhighschoolEnglishreadingteaching.Theresultsshowthattheintegrationofmultimodalmetaphorscaneffectivelyenhancestudents'readingcomprehensionabilitiesandimprovetheirlearningmotivation.ThisstudyalsoproposessomesuggestionsforfutureresearchontheapplicationofmultimodalmetaphorsinhighschoolEnglishreadingteaching.Keywords:Multimodalmetaphors;HighschoolEnglishreadingteaching;Readingcomprehension;Learningmotivation1IntroductionReadingisanessentialskillforstudentsinhighschool,asitnotonlyhelpsthemacquireknowledgebutalsoimprovestheircriticalthinkingandcommunicationabilities.However,manystudentsfindreadingdifficultduetovariousreasons,suchaslimitedvocabulary,poorreadingstrategies,andweakreadingcomprehensionabilities.Toaddresstheseissues,teachersneedtoadopteffectiveteachingmethodstoimprovestudents'readingabilities.Inthisstudy,wewillexploretheapplicationofmultimodalmetaphorsinhighschoolEnglishreadingteachingtohelpstudentsbetterunderstandthetextandimprovetheirreadingcomprehensionabilities.2LiteratureReviewMultimodalmetaphorsrefertotheuseofmultiplemodesofexpressiontoconveymeaning,suchasverbal,nonverbal,andvisualmodes.Theyarewidelyusedindailylifeandhavebeenappliedinvariousfields,includingeducation,psychology,andlanguageteaching.Inrecentyears,scholarshavebeguntoexploretheapplicationofmultimodalmetaphorsinlanguageteaching,particularlyinreadingcomprehension.Somestudieshaveshownthattheuseofmultimodalmetaphorscanenhancestudents'readingcomprehensionabilitiesandimprovetheirlearningmotivation(e.g.,Chen&Wang,2018).InthefieldofEnglishreadingteaching,researchershavefoundthatthecombinationofmultimodalmetaphorswithotherteachingmethodscaneffectivelyimprovestudents'readingcomprehensionabilities.Forexample,Zhang(2019)foundthattheuseofmultimodalmetaphorsinreadinginstructioncanincreasestudents'engagementandinterestinreading.Similarly,Liu(2020)demonstratedthattheintegrationofmultimodalmetaphorsintoreadingactivitiescanenhancestudents'readingcomprehensionabilitiesandimprovetheirlearningoutcomes.However,therearestillsomechallengesinapplyingmultimodalmetaphorsinhighschoolEnglishreadingteaching.Firstly,teachersneedtohaveagoodunderstandingofmultimodalmetaphorsandbeabletoeffectivelyintegratethemintoteachingactivities.Secondly,studentsneedtodevelopahabitofpayingattentiontomultimodalmetaphorsinreadingmaterials.Finally,thereisalackofresearchonthelong-termeffectsofmultimodalmetaphorsonstudents'readingcomprehensionabilities.Therefore,furtherresearchisneededtoexploretheapplicationofmultimodalmetaphorsinhighschoolEnglishreadingteachinganditseffectiveness.3MethodologyToinvestigatetheapplicationofmultimodalmetaphorsinhighschoolEnglishreadingteaching,thisstudyadoptsamixed-methodsapproach.Thefirstphaseinvolvesaliteraturereviewofrelevanttheoriesandpreviousresearchonmultimodalmetaphorsinlanguageteaching.ThesecondphaseinvolvescollectingdatafromhighschoolEnglishteachersandstudentsthroughinterviewsandquestionnaires.Thethirdphaseinvolvesanalyzingthecollecteddatausingqualitativeresearchmethods,suchascontentanalysisandcasestudies.4ResultsTheresultsofthisstudyshowthattheapplicationofmultimodalmetaphorsinhighschoolEnglishreadingteachinghaspositiveeffectsonstudents'readingcomprehensionabilities.Firstly,multimodalmetaphorscanhelpstudentsbetterunderstandthetextbyprovidingdifferentperspectivesandcontexts.Secondly,theycanenhancestudents'interestinreadingbymakingthereadingprocessmoreinterestingandengaging.Thirdly,multimodalmetaphorscanimprovestudents'criticalthinkingabilitiesbyencouragingthemtothinkabouttherelationshipbetweendifferentmodesofexpression.5DiscussionThefindingsofthisstudysuggestthattheapplicationofmultimodalmetaphorsinhighschoolEnglishreadingteachingiseffectiveinimprovingstudents'readingcomprehensionabilities.However,therearestillsomelimitationstothisapproach.Firstly,teachersneedtohaveagoodunderstandingofmultimodalmetaphorsandbeabletoeffectivelyintegratethemintoteachingactivities.Secondly,studentsneedtodevelopahabitofpayingattentiontomultimodalmetaphorsinreadingmaterials.Finally,thereisalackofresearchonthelong-termeffectsofmultimodalmetaphorsonstudents'readingcomprehensionabilities.Therefore,furtherresearchisneededtoexploretheapplicationofmultimodalmetaphorsinhighschoolEnglishreadingteachinganditseffectiveness.6ConclusionInconclusion,thisstudyhasexploredtheapplicationofmultimodalmetaphorsinhighschoolEnglishreadingteachinganditseffectsonstudents'readingcomprehensionabilities.Thefindingssuggestthattheintegrationofmultimodalmetaphorscanenhancestudents'readingcomprehensionabilitiesandimprovetheirlearningmotivation.However,therearestillsomelimitationstothisapproach,andfurtherresearchisneededtoexploreitseffectivenessandlong-termeffects.Overall,theapplicationofmultimodalmetaphorsinhighschoolEnglishreadingteachingispromisingandworthexploringfurther.7ConclusionInconclusion,thisstudyhasexploredtheapplicationofmultimodalmetaphorsinhighschoolEnglishreadingteachinganditseffectsonstudents'readingcomprehensionabilities.Thefindingssuggestthattheintegrationofmultimodalmetaphorscanenhancestudents'readingcomprehensionabilitiesandimprovetheirlearningmotivation.However,therearestillsomelimitationstothisapproach,andfurtherresearchisneededtoexploreitseffectivenessandlong-termeffects.Overall,theapplicationofmultimodalmetaphorsinhighschoolEn
