1第六章英文翻译英文原文ChuteDesignInALargeCoalHandlingFacilityDavidCharlesMorganT.C.C.Mech.Eng.MEMNAcknowledgementsTheBionicResearchInstitute,ChuteDesignConference1991ThepapergivesabriefoverviewofcoalhandlingattheSyferfonteinMine,intheOverlandConveyorSystem,andinthestockyards.Thecriteriaforselectionofchutedesignarediscussed,anddesignalternativesevaluated.DavidCharlesMorganisProjectsManagerMaterialsHandlingwithKeeveSteynInc.HeisamemberoftheInstituteofMaterialsHandling,andhaswideexperienceinbulkmaterialshandlingandinstallation.REQUIREMENTFORANEWMINESyferfonteinCollieryisanentirelynewopencastminesituatedatTrichardtintheEasternTransvaal.ThepurposeofthemineistosupplementthecoalsupplytoSasolIIandSasolIIIfactoriesatSecundaandwillproducecoalinconjunctionwithfourexistingminesintheSecundaarea.Whenfullyoperationaltheminewillsupplysome7milliontonsofcoalperannum.Thiscoalwillbeofahighergradethanthatproducedfromtheexistingminesandbytheminingmethodsemployed,willgenerateaproductwithamuchlowerfinescontent.Toensurecontinuityofproductqualitytothefactoriesitisnecessarytobothblendthenewminescoalwiththatoftheexistingundergroundminesandtohomogenizetheproducttoensureanevendistributionoffines.ThecontroloftheproductionoffinesonthenewmineandthetransportsystemshasbeenofparamountimportanceandstudiesconductedbySasolontheexistingsystemshavebeenutilisedinthedesignofthetransferpointsandthedesigncriteriaoftheconveyors.2MINEOPERATIONCoalisstripminedandtransportedtothecoalpreparationplantintruckswithcapacitiesofupto170tons.Theofminecoalisloadedintoahopperbelowgroundlevelintheprimarycrushingbuildingwhereitisextractedbymeansofanapronconveyor.300mmMaterialisextractedbymeansofalivegrizzlyandtransportedbyconveyordirecttothesecondarycrushingplant.The300mmmaterialistransportedviaasecondapronconveyortoajawcrusherwhereitisbrokendownto300mmanddispatchedtothesecondarycrushingplant.Priortosecondarycrushingthe100mmproductisscreenedoutandthecrushingbypassedwhilstoversizeisbrokendowntotherequired100mmbymeansofarotarybreaker.Rockpresentintheproductatthispointisremovedbytherotarybreakeranddischargedbyconveyorontoawasterockpile.Thefinalproductnowplusfinesgeneratedintheminingandreductionprocessisdeliveredtoafinesscreeningplantwherethedesiredportionof6.4mmproductisremovedfromthefinalproduct.Throughputofthemineissuchthatthehandlingsystemandplantiscapableofhandling2400ton/hourofR.O.Mcoal.Acircularstockpileactsasabufferbetweentheoverlandtransportationsystem,fromwhichcoalmaybeextractedat2000tonperhour.Tominimizedegradationenroutetheoverlandsystemhasbeenkeptto3conveyorsofwhichthefirstisaslowrunningcollectionconveyor.Oftheother2flights,havebeenselectedat8kmand12kmrespectivelytokeeptransferpointstoaminimumandbeltsaghasbeenrestrictedto1tominimizedegradationofthecoalenroute.AsplitterbinatthefactorydistributescoaltoeithertheSasolIIorSasolIIIstockyards.ThenewsystematSecundaconsistsofanadditional2slewingstackersand2barrelreclaimers,togetherwithadistributionsystemtotheexistingstackersandareclaimsystemtothefactories.Despitekeepingthetransferpointstominimumatotalof30individualtransfers3occurfromtheR.O.M.intakehopperattheprimarycrushingbuildingtothestockpilesatSecunda.Carefuldesignofthetransferpointstokeepdegradationtoaminimumwasthereforequiteessential.Sasolspolicyisoneofconstantimprovementandintheprocessoffixingtheconceptuallayoutmanychangesoccurredbothonconceptandprocessrequirements.Thisinvolvedradicalchangesparticularlytothestockyardsystemfromthetimeofinitialconception.Thisallowedinnovativethoughttoattimescomplextransferstations.CHUTEDESIGNCONVEYORCHUTEWORKToachievetheobjectivesofSasolandthenecessitytokeepdegradationtoaminimumitwasnecessarytomoveawayfromconventionalchutes.Varioustypesoftransferwereinvestigated,cateringfrominlinededicateddischargethroughtomultidischargeandproportioningchutes.InvestigationswithSasolshowedthatthelowheadroomcurvedchutewithmovingheadformultidischargewastheidealandenquiriesanddesignswerebasedonthisconcept.ThespecificationforthechutesbeingasfollowsCHUTESPECIFICATIONTheeliminationofcoaldegradationinchutesisofparamountimportanceandthefollowingarefactorsinfluencingthedesignofdegradationfreechutesAlargeconvexcurveofthetroughedbelttotheheadpulleycircumferenceensuringinherentlystablebeltandpayloadwiththeinitialtrajectorypointlyingt5outbyeofthetopdeadcentreoftheheadpulley.Suitablydesignedbelttransitionattheheadendensuringasmoothchangeofpayloadcrossofpayloadcrosssectionwithminimumsurfacelumpcoalmovement.Headpulleyoflargerdiameterthannecessarybybeltrequirementsensuringamorecompacttrajectory.Thecompactionpressureofthecoal,determinedfromitscriticalsuperficialmoisturelevelandupper,lowerandaveragesizedistribution,criticalindeterminingtheinitialslidingangleofthecoal.4Assuringthatthecoaldoesnotimpactonanysurfacebutlandsatalowangleofincidenceandthatfreefallisrestrictedto500mmmaximum.Preferablycoalshouldslideonthechuteforthegreatestpossiblelength.Thelargersizedcoalbecushionedbythefinesonlandinginthechute.Dischargeofthecoalontothefollowingbeltatanearmatchingspeedandinclinedatο30±topreventpossibledamagetothebeltbygouging,cuttingorpiercing.Allmainstreamtransferchutesaretoconsistofthefollowingsections.Afirstsectiontangenttothebottomfaceofthetrajectory,taperingfromheadchutewidthtochutedischargewidthandtransformingfromarectangularcrosssectiontoasemicircularsectionwithupperverticalsidesandtop.Thetaperingsidestodeflectlooselumpsbacktothemaintrajectoryflow.Thelengthandangleofdeclineofthissectiontobedeterminedfromcoaldischargespeed.Asecondsectionofsemicircularcrosssectionwithupperverticalsidesandtopat300and1mlongensuringthatthetopofthetrajectorymeetsthecoalalreadyslidinginthechuteataverylowangleofincidence.Forinlinetransfers,theremainingsection/stobeasforthesecondwithangleofdeclinedesignedtoensurematchingdischargecoalandreceivingbeltspeed.Thelengthdeterminedbyrequiredheightoftransferbuttobenotlessthan1m.Forangledtransfers,thethirdsectiontoconsistofacircularcrosssection,thelengthandangleofdeclinedeterminedbytheangleandheightoftransfer.Thefourthsectionforangledtransferstoconsistofasemicircularcrosssectionwithupperverticalsidesandtopwithaminimumlengthof2mat30.Foralongersection,thelast2mtobeat30withtheangleofdeclineoftheremainderdeterminedbycalculation.Itisrequiredthattestsbeconductedonthecoaltobetransported,withtheassistanceofaneutralbodychosenbythecontractorandapprovedbySasol,beforechutedesignsarefinalized.Chutingshallbemanufacturerinmildsteel.Thechutingshallbeofthesame
