He left a group of 4yearolds in a room with a bell and a candy. If they rang the bell, he would come back and they could eat the candy. If, however, they didnt ring the bell and waited for him to come back on his own, they could then have two candies. In videos of the experiment, he can see the children kicking, hiding their eyestrying to exercise selfcontrol so they can wait and get two candies. The results are different. Some broke down and rang the bell within a minute.Others lasted 15 minutes. The children who waited longer went on to get higher SAT scores. They got into better colleges and had better adult success. The children who rang the bell quickest were more likely to have received worse teacher and parental evaluations (评价) 10 years later and were more likely to have drug problems at age 32.The experiments are worth noting because people spend a lot of time thinking about how to improve education and how to become rich. But when the result is not good, they will come back to ask “how do we get people to get the sort of selfcontrol that leads to success?” This is to enter the world of human nature. So these experiments along with everyday experience tell us that selfcontrol is most important.Young people who can sit through sometimes boring classes to get a degree can work hard in order to learn a language well. They can avoid drugs and alcohol. For people without selfcontrol, however, school is a series of failed ordeals (煎熬). No wonder they drop out and their later life is a group of foolish ideas, such as drug use, stealing and so on.【文章大意】让四岁的孩子独处一室。他们自己在房间待的时间越长,自控能力就越强。他们以后的学习成绩就越优秀。1The scientist did some experiments to _.A. test childrens selfcontrol and later successB. test childrens intelligence of ringing the bellC. find good ways of training children to learnD. prove that childrens education is important解析:A推理判断题。由第三段中的The children who waited longer went on to get higher SAT scores. They got into better colleges and had better adult success.可推知。2How long did the scientists experiments last according to the text?A. Just 15 minutes.B. Within 10 years.C. Less than 14 years.D. More than 28 years.解析:D细节理解题。由第三段中的The children who rang the bell quickest were more likely to have received worse teacher and parental evaluations (评价)10 years later and were more likely to have drug problems at age 32.可知选D。3What will those without selfcontrol do at school according to the text?A. Improving their education.B. Suffering a lot from boring lessons.C. Working hard to catch up with others.D. Becoming very rich and successful.解析:B推理判断题。由最后一段中的For people without selfcontrol, however, school is a series of failed ordeals(煎熬)可推知。4What is the best title for this passage?A. Ways of selfcontrol trainingB. Experiments on childrens ringing the bellC. Higher scores, better achievementsD. Selfcontrol is the key to success解析:D主旨大意题。文章自始至终贯穿一个思想:自我控制是成功的关键。 BHarvard researchers have created a tough, lowcost, biodegradable (可生物降解的) material inspired by insects hard outer shells. The materials inventors say it has a number of possible uses and someday could provide a more environmentally friendly alternative to plastic. The material, made from shrimp(虾) shells and proteins produced from silk, is called “shrilk” .It is thin, clear, flexible and strong.A major benefit of the material is its biodegradability.Plastics toughness and flexibility represented a revolution in materials science during the 1950s and 60s. Decades later, however, plastics very durability(耐用性) is raising questions about how appropriate it is for onetime products such as plastic bags, or shortlived consumer goods, used in the home for a few years and then cast into a landfill where they will degrade for centuries. What is the point of making something that lasts 1,000 years?Shrilk not only will degrade in a landfill, but its basic components are used as fertilizer (肥料), and so will enrich the soil.Shrilk has great potential, the inventors said. Materials from which it is made are plentiful in nature, found in everything ranging from shrimp shells, insect bodies to living plants. That makes shrilk low cost, and its mass production possible should it be used for products demanding a lot of material.Work on shrilk is continuing in the lab.The inventors said the material becomes flexible when wet, so theyre exploring ways to use it in wet environments. Theyre also developing simpler production processes, which could be used for nonmedical products, like for computer cases and other products inside the home.Theyre even exploring combining it with other materials, like carbon fibers, to give it new properties.【文章大意】哈佛大学的研究人员发明了一种可替代塑料的材料,它是由虾壳和牛奶蛋白制成的,被称作shrilk,这种材料在阴湿的环境中可分解,做肥料;并且还有其他用途。5Paragraph 1 of the passage is mainly about shrilks _.A. remarkable design B. interesting nameC. major features D. basic elements解析:C主旨大意题。由第一段中的Harvard researchers have created a tough, lowcost, biodegradable (可生物降解的) material .和It is thin, clear, flexible and strong。可得出答案。6What has become a concern about plastic?A. Using it properly.B. Producing it cheaply.C. Developing its properties quickly.D. Evaluating its contributions fairly.解析:A细节理解题。由第二段中的. plastics very durability (耐用性) is raising questions about how appropriate it is for onetime products such as plastic bags, or shortlived consumer goods, used in the home for a few years and then cast into a landfill where they will degrade for centuries.可得出答案。7According to the inventors, shrilk has great potential partly because _.A. it can help plastic degradeB. it can be found in living thingsC. its mass production has been realizedD. its raw materials are abundant in nature解析:D细节理解题。由第四段中的Materials from which it is made are plentiful in nature .可得出答案。8What are the inventors doing in the lab?A. Replacing carbon fibers with shrilk.B. Testing shrilks use in wet conditions.C. Making shrilk out of used household goods.D. Improving shrilks flexibility for medical purposes.解析:B细节理解题。由最后一段中的Work on shrilk is continuing in the lab. The inventors said the material becomes flexible when wet, so theyre exploring ways to use it in wet environments.可得出答案。.短文改错May I have your attentions, please? Now we are looking for a passenger, Mr Brown, he is from America. And hes now leaving Beijing to America on Flight 2748. But we were told that Mr Brown left his passport as good as his wallet in
