My name is Jonathan Diamond and I just finished an amazing school exchange year in Hungary. Going on an exchange had always been my dream. When my high school offered an allyear program, I jumped at the opportunity. It would pay for almost everything and all I had to do was buy a plane ticket.I knew where I wanted to go: Spain, the country of dancers wearing flowing red dresses. So when I heard that I was going to Hungary, I was pretty shocked. But I decided to make the best of it, since it was, after all, a onceinalifetime opportunity. Before I knew it, I was on the airplane, leaving for Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, Hungary. I had difficult times when I almost gave up.Hungarian is the hardest language on the planet.Cultural differences occasionally embarrassed both my peers and me.I had to give up eating carrots, my beautiful favorite, for Hungarians think carrots are rubbish in their country. The change in the landscape was amazing, looking nothing like skyscrapers, bullet trains, cars, and people in tiny houses that I had been accustomed to.Gradually, I fell in love with the relaxing lifestyle, the warmhearted people, and getting home at 2:30 pm.at the latest from school. And I was sad to leave on my very last day. Having the host family who took me as one of their own members was the best thing Ive ever experienced. From my little sisters, I learned how to embrace life to its fullest. From my brothers I learned that its OK for a boy to run around the house. From my host parents I learned to stay positive, to smile and that when you pick the right people and take their hands, suddenly, you become friends. 4How did Jonathan feel when he was told to go to Hungary?AExcited and satisfied.BConfused and shocked.CAmazed and embarrassed.DDelighted and interested. 根据第一段中的“I looked at my school headmaster in confusion.”可知,作者听到这个消息很迷惑,再根据第三段中的“So when I heard that I was going to Hungary, I was pretty shocked.” 5Why did Jonathan still decide to go to Hungary instead of Spain?AHe didnt like Spain.BHe wanted to learn Hungarian.CIt was a rare chance.DGoing to Hungary was much cheaper. 根据第三段中的“But I decided to make the best of it, since it was, after all, a onceinalifetime opportunity.” 6What can we learn about Jonathan during his stay in Hungary?AHe fell in love with eating carrots.BHe couldnt wait to leave.CHe was surprised by the landscape.DHe quickly got used to the life there. 根据第四段中的“The change in the landscape was amazing”可知,选项C正确。7According to Jonathan, the host family _.Achanged him completelyBtaught him how to dance wellCtreated him as equally as a studentDshowed him the good things of life解析:选D推理判断题。 C“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” Albert Einstein If you have a kid with special needs in the school system, chances are you have come across that saying hanging on a classroom wall.My fiveyearold daughter Syona has cerebral palsy (脑瘫) and it means, combined with her communication challenges and sight problems, that standard assessments (and by “standard”, I mean the ones used to assess kids with special needs) arent always an accurate measure of her abilities. By now you have probably heard about Chris Ulmer, the 26yearold teacher in Jacksonville, Florida, who starts his special education class by calling up each student individually to give them much admiration and a high five.I couldnt help but be reminded of Syonas teacher and how he supports each kid in a very similar way.Ulmer recently shared a video of his teaching experience.“I have seen their confidence and selfworth increase rapidly,” he said. All I could think was: How lucky these students are to have such a inspirational teacher. Syonas teacher has an attitude that can best be summarized in one word: awesome. Her teacher doesnt focus on what cant be done she focuses on what can be done.Over the past several months, my husband Dilip and I have seen Syonas confidence increase tenfold. She uses words she wouldnt have thought of using before. She recently told me about her classmates trip to Ecuador and was very proud when I understood her on the first try.I actually wonder what the influence would be if we did something similar to what Ulmer does with his students in our home.Weve recently started our day by reminding each other of the good qualities we all possess. If we are reminded of our strengths on a regular basis, we will become increasingly confident about progress and success. Ulmers reach as a teacher goes far beyond the walls of his classroom. In fact, he teaches all of us to take a moment and truly appreciate the strengths of an important person in our lives. 8What does the underlined “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to?AThe cerebral palsy with Syona.BThe saying on a classroom wall.CThe standard for kids with special needs.DThe accurate measure of Syonas abilities. 根据第二段第二句中的“My fiveyearold daughter Syona has cerebral palsy (脑瘫) and it means, combined .sight problems”可知,it指代“Syona has cerebral palsy (脑瘫)”。 9What can we learn about Chris Ulmer?AHe is Syonas favorite teacher.BHe helps increase his students confidence.CHe uses videos to teach his students.DHe asks his students to help each other. 根据第三段倒数第二句中的“I have seen their confidence and selfworth increase rapidly”可知,Chris Ulmer的教学能帮助他的学生快速提高自信和自我价值感,故B项正确。10Why did Syona feel very pleased in the fourth paragraph?AShe has developed a positive attitude.BHer mother knew what she expressed.CHer progress was appreciated by her parents.DShe had been to Ecuador with her classmate. 根据第四段最后一句“She recently .was very proud when I understood her on the first try”可知,由于Syona的妈妈在Syona第一次尝试时就理解了Syona的意思,故Syona感到非常自豪,故B项正确。11What change has taken place in the authors family?AThey invite Ulmers students to their home.BThey visit Ulmers classroom regularly.CThey feel grateful to people in their lives.DThey give each other praise every day. 根据第五段中的“I actually wonder what the influence .the good qualities we all possess.” DEvery year, thousands of teenagers participate in programs at their local art museums. But do any of them remember their time at museum events later in life? A new report suggests that the answer is yes and finds that alumni (毕业生) of artsbased museum programs credit them with changing the course of their lives, even years after the fact. The Whitney Museum of American Art, the Walker Art Center and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles recently asked researchers to conduct a study to find out how effective their longstanding teen art programs really are. They involved over 300 former participants of four programs for teens that have been in existence since the 1990s. Alumni, whose current ages range from 18 to 36, were invited to find out how they viewed their participation years after the fact.Among the alumni surveyed, 75 percent of alumni rated the teen program experience as the most favorable impact on their own lives, beating family, school and their neighborhoods. Nearly 55 percent thought that it was one of the most important experiences theyd ever had, regardless of age. And twothirds said that they were often in situations where their experience in museums affected their actions or thoughts. It turns out that participating in art programs also helps keep teens enthusiastic about culture even after they reach adulthood: Ninetysix percent of participants had visited an art museum within the last two years, and 68 percent had visited an art museum five or more times within the last two years. Thirtytwo percent of program alumni work in the arts as adults.Though the study is the first of its kind to explore the impact of teenspecific art programs in museums, it reflects other research on the important benefits of engaging with the arts. A decade of surveys by the National Endowment for the Arts found that childhood experience with the arts is significantly associated with their income and educational attainment (成就) as adults. Other studies have linked arts education to everything from lower dropout rates to improvement in critical thinking skills. 12How did the researchers get their findings?ABy comparing scientific theories.BBy analyzing previous studies.CBy interviewing participants.DBy carrying out experiments. 根据第二段中的“Alumni, whose current ages range from 18 to 36, were invited . their participation years after the fact.” 13What do the figures in Paragraph 3 show?AStudents are more influenced by family and school.BTeens art programs in museums are highly beneficial.CMany teens fail to realize the great value of art programs.DMost experiences in museums are boring for todays teens. 14What does Paragraph 4 tell us about art programs?AThey create culturallyaware adults.BThey are intended to attract more adults.CThey are designed to support art museums.DThey provide many job opportunities for adults. 根据第四段中的“It turns out that participating in art programs also helps keep teens enthusiastic about culture even after they reach adulthood.” 15What do the studies mentioned in the last paragraph have in common?AAll suggest the need to improve museum programs.BAll show the growing popularity of art programs.CAll focus on the link between art and education.DAll prove the good effects of art education. How to be more social in high school Talking to new people in school is somewhat difficult, particularly if everybody has their own cliques (小集团)_1_ When you are in high school, it is important to try to make friends and have new experiences. This article addresses how to overcome shyness and become more social in high school.Accept that you arent perfect.Everyone makes social and verbal faux pas (失礼)_2_ Stop expecting perfection from yourself in all situations and allow yourself to be spontaneous (自然的)_3_ Turning down invitations to social events can eventually affect your social life.If you are invited to join in an
