“ordinary”womenthattheyarealwaysinneedofadjustment—andthatthefemalebodyisanobjecttobeperfected. nKilbournearguesthattheoverwhelmingpresenceofmediaimagesofpainfullythinwomenmeansthatrealwomen’sbodieshave einvisibleinthemassmedia.Therealtragedy,Kilbourneconcludes,isthatmanywomeninternalizestereotypes,andjudgethemselvesbythebeautyindustry’sWomenlearntocomparethemselvesotherwomen,andtocompetewiththemformaleattention.Thisfocusonbeautyanddesirability“effectivelydestroysanyawarenessandactionthatmighthelptochangethatclimate.”AreportinTeenmagazineshowedthat50%to70%girlswithnormalweightthinkthattheyneedtoloseweight.Onthewhole,for6yearswhitewomenhadbeenoccupyingmuchspaceinmainstreamwomen’smagazinessinceSomenegativeeffectssuchasdepressionandunhealthyeatinghabitsinfemalesarerelatedtotheirbeingexposedtoimagesofthinandyoungfemaleThemassmediahashelpedboostthecosmeticandthedietItisreportedthatthereisatleastonemessageaboutthemethodsforwomentochangetheirbodilyappearanceonmorethanthree-quartersofthecoversofwomen’smagazines.Somefilmand
