B When I was a child, I often dreamed of the time when I could leave home and escape to the city. We lived on a farmland, in the winter especially, we were quite cut off from the outside world. As soon as I left school, I packed my bags and moved to the capital. However, I soon discovered that my life has problems too. One big disadvantage is money. It costs so much to go out, not to mention basics like food and housing. Another disadvantage is pollution. I suffer from asthma(哮喘), and at times the air is so bad that I am afraid to go outside. Then there is the problem of traveling round. Although I have a car, I seldom use it because of the traffic jams. One choice is to go by bicycle, but that can be quite dangerous. Of course there are advantages. First, there is so much to do in the city, whatever you tastes in culture or entertainment(娱乐活动). Besides, there are wonderful jobs and greater chances of moving to a more important job or position. Finally, if you like shopping, the variety of goods is very surprising - and, what is more, shops are often only a short walk away. Is life better then, in the city? Perhaps it is , when you are in your teens(十几岁)or twenties. However, as you get older, and especially if you have small children, the peace of the countryside may seem preferable. I certainly hope to move back there soon. 60. What was the writer always thinking about when he was a child? A. Staying on the farm. B. Moving to the countryside. C. Leaving home for the city. D. Here are some ways to master it. Recite and repeat in conversation. When you hear a persons name, repeat it. Immediately say it to yourself several times without moving your lips. You could also repeat the name in a way that does not sound forced or artificial(假装的). Ask the other person to recite and repeat.来源:Zxxk.Com You can let other people help you remember their names. After youve been introduced to someone, ask that person to spell the name and pronounce it correctly for you. Most people will be pleased by the effort youre making to learn their names. Admit you dont know. Admitting that you cant remember someones name can actually make people relaxed. Most of them will feel sympathy if you say, “Im working to remember names better. Yours is right on the tip of my tongue. What is it again?” Use associations(联想). Link each person yon meet with one thing you find interesting or unusual. For example, you could make a mental note: “Vicki Cheng - tall, black hair.“ To reinforce(加强) your associations, write them on a small card as soon as possible. Limit the number of new names you learn at one time. When meeting a group of people, concentrate on remembering just two or three names. Free yourself from remembering every one. Few of the people in mass introductions expect you to remember their names. Another way is to limit yourself to learning just first names. Last names can come later. Go early. Consider going early to conferences, parties and classes. Sometimes just a few people show up on time. Thats fewer names for you to remember. And as more people arrive, you can hear them being introduced to othersan automatic review for you. 63. How will most people feel when you try hard to remember their names? A. They will be moved. B. There I saw Ma Shwe with her three-month-old calf(幼象) struggling in the fast- rising water and it was a life-and-death struggle. Her calf was floating and screaming with fear. Ma Shwe was as near to the far bank as she could get, holding her whole body against the rushing water, and keeping the calf pressed against her huge body . Every now and then the rushing water would sweep the calf away. There was a sudden rise in the water and the calf was washed clean over the mothers body and was gone. Ma Shwe turned quickly to reach it and pressed the calf with her head and trunk(象鼻)against the rocky bank. Then with a huge effort, she picked it up in her trunk and tried until she was able to place it on a narrow shelf of rock. Just at this moment, she fell back into the river. If she were carried down, it would be certain death. I knew, as well as she did ,that there was one spot(地点)where she could get up the bank, but it was on the other side from where Shwe had put her calf. While I was wondering what I could do next, I heard the sound of a mothers love. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research. 71 Try the following steps: Calm yourself. 72 You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love. Dont wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just dont see things the same way. _73_Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you. Take the control away from your offender(冒犯者 ). Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who caused you pain. Instead of focusing on your mounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you. _74_If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offenders point of view. Dont forget to forgive yourself. 75 But it can rob you of your self- confidence if you dont do it. A. Why should you forgive? B. How should you start to forgive? C. Recognize the benefits of forgiveness. D. Try to see things from your offenders angle. E.
