economic(经济的)boom, and the capital,Buenos Aires, attracted many people.Farmers,as well as a flood of foreigners from Spain and Italy, came to Buenos Aires seeking jobs. These jobs didnt pay well, and the people felt lonely and disappointed with their new life in the city.As the unhappy newcomers mixed together in the poor parts of the city, the dance known as the tango(探戈舞)came into being. At the beginning the tango was a dance of the lower classes. It was danced in the bars and streets. At that time there were many fewer women than men,so if a man didnt want to be left out,his only choice was to dance with another man so that he could attract the attention of the few available women.Gradually, the dance spread into the upper classes of Argentinean society and became more respectable. In Europe at this time, strong interest in dance from around the world was beginning. This interest in international dance was especially evident in Paris.Every kind of dance from ballet(芭蕾舞) to belly dancing could be found on the stages of the Paris theaters. After tango dancers from Argentina arrived in Europe, they began to draw the interest of the public as they performed their exciting dance in cafes.Though not everyone approved of the new dance, saying it was a little too shocking, the dance did find enough supporters to make it popular. The popularity(流行) of the tango continued to grow in many other parts of the world.Soldiers who returned to the United States from World War brought the tango to North America. It reached Japan in 1926,and in 2003 the Argentinean embassy in Seoul hired a local tango dancer to act as a kind of dance ambassador, and promote tango dancing throughout South Korea.1The origin of the tango is associated with_.Abelly dancersBAmerican soldiersCa Spanish cityDthe capital of Argentina2Which of the following is true about the tango?AIt was created by foreigners from Spain and Italy.BPeople of the upper classes loved the tango most.CIt was often danced by two males in the beginning.DA dancer in Seoul became the Argentinean ambassador.3Before World War,the tango spread to_.AAmerica BJapanCFrance DSouth Korea4What can be the best title for the text?AHow to Dance the TangoBThe History of the TangoCHow to Promote the TangoDThe Modern Tango BoomBWhile IQ (Intelligence Quotient)tells you how smart you are.EQ (Emotional Quotient)tells you how well you use your smartness.Professor Salovery, the psychologist who created the term,EQ,says that it is IQ that gets you hired but it is EQ that gets you promoted.Supported by his research,he suggested that when predicting future successes,a persons brainpower,as measured by IQ tests, might actually matter less than a persons character,or EQ.Professor Salovery may be correct. For example, have you ever wondered why some of the best and smartest students in your class end up failing exams?Perhaps it is because of their EQ.People often make the mistake of thinking that EQ is the opposite of IQ.It is not.Although it is hoped that people have both high EQs and IQs,there is little doubt that those with low EQs have a hard time surviving in life. For a long time, researchers discussed if a persons IQ could be raised. The geneticists said no,while the social scientists said yes.Furthermore, the social scientists said that it was possible to improve a persons EQ,particularly in terms of “people skills”,such as understanding and communication.Recently,a professor released the findings of a study on senior high school students. When some normal students were introduced to some disabled students, they found that afterwards they were more willing to help people in difficulties. At the same time, there was a marked change in the disabled students attitudes. They became more positive about their disabilities and were more eager to try new things.People with high EQs often have positive attitudes towards life and are open to different ideas,so they tend to be more creative in their thinking. Please remember that having a high IQ is helpful but having a high EQ might even be more helpful.5According to Professor Salovery, what factor matters the most in predicting whether a person will be successful or not?AHow a person tests his/her brainpower.BA persons character.CHow smart a person is.DA persons IQ.6The second paragraph tells us that _.Apeople who have a high IQ always have a high EQBEQ is the opposite of IQCpeople who have a low EQ tend to have a hard lifeDpeople who have a high EQ always have a high IQ
