Unit 3 Language in useUnit 3 Language in use Module 9 Heroes 写出5句关于白求恩的状语从句: so that, save ones life give ones life to, work without look forward to doing, take care of , continue doing in spite of , in order to Around the world: Heroes 中国航天英雄中国航天英雄: : 杨利伟杨利伟 国际数学大师: 陈省身 中国功夫英雄 :成龙 体育英雄 :齐达内 Around the world Florence Nightingale 弗洛伦斯南丁格尔简介 弗洛伦斯南丁格尔-英国人 弗洛伦斯 南丁格尔(Florence Nightingale)是 英国人,1820年5月12日生于意大利的 弗洛伦斯城,她父母以此城为名为她取 名。她生于一个名门富有之家,自幼便 在家庭里受教育。她父亲是一个博学、 有文化教养的人,为她提供了古典书籍 、数学、哲学和语言等方 面的教育。她母亲对她很不满意, 因为她无意于婚姻。她在当主妇、 当文学家、当护士三者之中选择了 当护士。她从小便经常照看附近村 庄的病、残人,并护理她的亲属, 以解除病者的痛苦。她的父母反对 她做护士,认为有损家庭荣誉。但 封建意识、社会影响从未使她失去 做护理工作的信心。 在她的时代 ,没有一个有身份的人做护士。 做护士的,往往都是一些无知、粗 鲁、酗酒、没有受过训练的女人。 她利用到欧洲旅游的机会,了解各 地护理工作。最后她选定了的过的 凯瑟沃兹医院,并于1851年在该院 参加了4个月的短期训练班,使她学 护士的理想终于实现。在学习期间 ,她亲身体验到护理工作要为病人 解除痛苦、给予精神安慰, 必须付出多方面的辛勤劳动。 1853 年,她在伦敦担任了妇女医院院长。 次年,克里米亚战争爆发,她受政府 的邀请,带了38名合适的妇女,于 1854年10月21日离开伦敦,启程前 往克里米亚。 在克里米亚,南丁格尔 发现工作很困难军队领导对她的工作 怀疑,医院的给养也短缺,护士的纪 律很差。面对种种困难,她重点整顿 了规章和纪律。由于各方面支援, 医院供应好转;精心的护理挽救了很多 士兵的生命。士兵为了表示对她们的感 谢,不再骂人,不再表示粗鲁。夜静时 ,南丁格尔手持油灯巡视病房,士兵竟 躺在床上亲吻落在墙壁的她的身影。她 还要注意士兵的伤口是否换药了,是否 得到了适当的饮食。她安慰重病者,并 督促士兵往家里写信并把剩余的钱给家 里寄去,以补助家庭生活。她自己还寄 了几百封信给死亡士兵的家属。 在很短的时间内,她便在士兵中成了传 奇式的人物,同时,全英国也知道了持 灯女士”。她在克里米亚短短半年时间 ,士兵的死亡率由原来的5下降到22% 。 南丁格尔在克里米亚患了克里米亚 热,健康还为完全恢复,就又继续工作 。1856年11月她作为最后的撤离人员 ,返回英国。回到英国后,她已极度疲 惫,但很快,她又继续忙于英国皇家专 门调查委员回的军队卫生工作。 所以,虽然在1855年已得到各方面资助 的办护士学校的基金,却使她未能够马 上开展办护士学校的工作。她认为,护 校必须与医院结合。最后,她选中了伦 敦的圣托马斯医院作为她的办学基地, 1869年,南丁格尔护士训练学校开学。 南丁格尔护士学校开学时有15名女子, 年龄在25至35岁之间,训练时间为一年 。学生的食、宿、制服、学费全部免费 ,每年并给10英镑助学金。 学校委托给圣托马斯医院护理主任管 理,南丁格尔只去过学校两次。但她一 直密切关注学校的发展情况。医院护理 主任不断向她请示、汇报学校的每一件 事。护士和护士长常常在南丁格尔家中 进行面谈。 南丁格尔虽然健康状况不好 ,但仍活到90岁。直到她80高龄时,她 仍为护理事业持续工作着。她不停地读 书、写报告,对医院建设 提建议,接见 那些想与她讨论工作的人,并会见 护士们,询问她们的工作。从南丁格尔 护校毕业的护士们曾到世界各国帮助改 进医院护理工作。南丁格尔最高兴的就 是听到护理工作所取得的进步。 南丁 格尔最大的成就就是创建了护理专业, 然而其影响却远不止于此。在维多利亚 时代早期,女子在管家之外所学的很少 ,有极少数的女子的成就是成为贵妇人 。南丁格尔的建树是妇女有能力做更多 的事。她并不强调男女平等,她为 妇女做了很多的,是赢得了今天所享 受的自由。 南丁格尔女士以最高贵的 奉献精神把一生献给了护理事业,为 护理事业奋斗终生。英国人把她看作 是英国的骄傲,为她在伦敦树立了铜 像,并把她的大半身像印在英国10英 镑纸币的背面(正面是英国女王伊丽 莎白二世的半身像)。美国大诗人 Longfellow(18071882)为她作诗 ,赞美她的 精神是高贵的,是女界的英雄。如今全世 界都以5月12日为国际护士节纪念她。南 丁格尔被列入世界伟人之一,受到人们的 尊敬。 Look at the pictures and facts about Yuan Longping, write a passage about him. (我正要出门,有客人来访。)(动词同时发 生。) I shall tell her the good news when she comes. (她来时,我将告诉她这个好消息。) 2.while 引导的从句:表示“当过程中”, 强调某一段时间内主句和从句中谓语动词所表 示的动作在同一时期发生。由于while从句表 示一个持续的行为,所以从句中要用持续性动 词,并且持续性动词常用进行时态。 例: Keep an eye on my little sister while I am away. (我不在时,请照看一下我的小妹妹。) While we were watching TV, Jim came in. (我们看电视的时候,Jim进来了。) 3. 由as引导的时间状语从句,表示时间当 ., 的时候 , 一边.一边, 随着。其从句的 主语与主句的主语往往是同一人或物,如: She sang as she worked. 她一边工作一边唱歌。(此句主从句还可使用 进行时) She was singing as she was working. I saw him as he was getting off the bus. 正当他下公共汽车时, 我看见了他。 As a child, he lived in America. 他小时候住在美国。 You will grow wiser as you grow older. 随着你年令的增长, 你会变得更聪明。 4.before引导的从句:一般表示主句的动作 发生在从句动作之前。 例:I didnt know any English before I came here. (我到这儿来之前,一点英语都不懂。)( 虽然主句的动作发生在从句动作之前,主句 和从句中动词都可用过去时。) I had written my report before my father came back. (我父亲回来之前,我已写完我的报告。 ) (为了表明主句的动作发生或完成在从句 动作之前,主句动词一般用过去完成时,从 句中动词用过去时,以区分动作的先后。) 5.after引导的从句:表示主句的动作发生在从 句动作之后。 例:After he locked the door, he left. (他锁上门,就走了。)(虽然从句的动作 在前,主句的动作在后,但表示过去发生的连 续动作,都可用过去时。) After he had finished his work, he played a game of chess with his friend. (他做完工作后,和朋友下了一盘棋。)(“做完 工作”在前,“下棋”在后,为了表明动作的先后 ,从句中的动词一般用过去完成时,主句 中的动词用过去时。) 6.since引导的从句:表示“自从以来“,从 句中的动词一般表示动作的起点,用过去时。 主句中的动词表示动作延续的情况,一般用现 在完成时。如果主句中的动词表示的不是延续 的动作而是表示目前的状态,可用一般现在时 。 例:Since he met this good friend, he has made great progress in his studies. (自从遇见了这个好朋友,他 已在学习上取得了巨大的进步) It is twenty years since she joined the Party. (她入党二十年了。)(主句中的动词表 示的不是延续动作,而是状态, 用现在时。) 7.until 引导的从句: a表示“直到”,主句和从句都用肯 定式 b表示“直到才”,主句用否定式, 从句用肯定式。 例:They worked until it was late. (他们一直工作到天黑。) She didnt go to bed until she (had) finished her homework. (她一直到写完作业才睡觉。) 8.as soon as 引导的从句表示“一 就”。 例:As soon as she came to the classroom, she began to read English.
