into the wto, china and other countries will have more and more co-operation. and english penetrates into our daily life more and more. but in english learning, word remembering confuses many english learners. and whether the learners can remember more words effectively affects the interest of learners and substantial results directly. still, the lacking of vocabulary will affect students ability of listening, speaking, and students integral english level.there are two main reasons that lead to the difficulty in word remembering. the first reason is related to the words. some words are too long and too complicated to remember, and other words that are seldom used are difficult to remember, and so on. the second reason is related to the learners. for example, whether english learners have the right attitude and faith, and whether the students apply the newly learned words constantly. to solve those problems, firstly, a right attitude and determination should be built; secondly, it is important to choose a suitable vocabulary book; thirdly, the learners should arrange time reasonably and adopt methods scientifically; fourthly, the learners should read more, besides remembering; finally, the learners should review the newly learned words constantly.this paper also suggests some detailed skills aiming for the problems stated previously, such as, remembering words according to 特别是中国加入世贸组织以后,中国与其他国家的交流越来越多。英语也越来越多的深入到我们的生活当中。但是,在英语学习中,单词的记忆困扰着许多人。能否有效地更多的记忆单词将直接影响对英语学习的兴趣和实效性。而且,词汇的不足还会影响到学习者的听,说,读,写能力,从而影响到英语的整体水平。通过分析,我们可以知道,造成英语单词记忆困难的原因有两方面。第一是单词本身,第二是英语学习者。单词本身所存在的问题有单词过长,单词本身很少被运用,一词多意,还有专业术语。而存在与学习者身上的问题是没有正确的态度,以及缺少对已记忆单词的运用。要解决这些问题,我们要做的有以下这些。第一,建立端正的学习态度。第二,找到一本适合自己的词汇书。第三,科学安排时间,运用合理的方法。第四,在日常的学习中,尽量的多读一些文章,这样可以更多的与陌生单词见面。最后,记忆单词之后要及时复习。针对单词记忆难的问题,本文还提出了一些具体方法。例如,运用前缀,后缀和词跟记忆单词;运用联想记忆单词;运用相似的中文发音记忆单词;通过阅读记忆单词等等。关键词英语; extent. so, it is necessary for us to learn english well. and through the process of english learning, word remembering is the foundational part. therefore, many english experts and learners have devoted themselves to the research of the skills of remembering english words in recent years. but, most of those researches are on the skill of remembering words. besides, those researches are mercantilism, such as, a series of books of spar english, and an intellective remembering system of miracle, and so on. finally, all of these experts and learners just research respectively, and they lack communication with each other. so, at present, there is not a complete system of remembering english words.in this paper, the author will analyze the process of word remembering, and find out the reason which causes word remembering to be difficult first. then, the author will suggest some strategies of word remembering and give some detailed skills finally. problems in word remembering in the process of english learning, the most common problem among students is lack of vocabulary which will affect students ability of listening, speaking and reading, and so on. thus, the amount of vocabulary plays a very important role in students study. but, why do word remembering is so difficult? the author will give some reasons as follows.a. the wordsthere are some problems related to the aspect of words which lead to the difficulty in word remembering, such as the complication of words, the frequency of the usages of words, and the professional terms, and so on.1. the complication of wordsaccording to the lexicology, words can be divided into simple words, compound words and complex words. simple words are the common core of the english vocabulary. as society develops, many new objects, new experiences and new concepts appear. so people need new words to express these things. therefore, a great number of compound words and complex words appear constantly whose actual number is much bigger than simple words although they are of the same importance as the simple words. so, it is necessary and important to remember compound words and complex words. but because the length of these words is usually more than 10 letters, it is hard for english learners to remember in one time. although english learners can remember those words spelling、pronunciation and meaning for a few days after they recite them, such as, cosmopolitan, sophisticated, circumstance, and so on, they can not remember them forever because peoples memory has a process of forgetting. and it is more difficult for people to remember complicated things than simple ones. therefore, to remember long and complicated words is a difficult thing, and it needs language learners to spend more time on it.2. the frequency of the usages of wordspeople can bear a new friend in mind if he contacts or meets with the friend frequently. but, if he never sees the friend again after their first meet, he even can not remember the name of the new friend. remembering new english words is just like making friends. no matter how firmly the english learners remember the new words for the first time, they will never come to acquire them if they never apply them to their study or meet them in their reading in the following days of their remembering. even if they remember some of those new words, they cannot recognize the whole. this phenomenon shows that english learners can not only remember new words, but also need to apply them and read more. 3. words with various meaningsthere is a complex and complete language system in english just like chinese. since english originates, it has experienced many changes in spelling, pronunciation and meaning. put a simple word “take” for example. according to the dictionary, the word “take” has two part of speechesverb and noun. as a verb, “take” has 39 meanings. it is impossible for english learners to remember all the meanings of “take” as a verb such as the 33rd meaning “officiate at (something)”, and the 36th meaning “(of a man) have sexual intercourse with (a woman)”, because those meanings are seldom used. therefore, english learners only can accumulate these usages in their daily study. 4. the professional termswith the rapid development of our society and the development of all new things and technology, a large number of professional english words have been coined. but because they are related to some professional sectors, it is impossible for english learners to acquaint themselves with words of every field of life. suppose the english learners have remembered some professional words on medicine, they also do not know these words probably when they meet them if their work is not related to medicine. so, it is difficult for english learners to remember and apply professional words which are not related to their study or career.b. the learnersbesides problems related to the aspect of words, there are some aspects concerned with the english learners.1. the attitude and determination of the english learnersin daily life, many students consider remembering words as a painful task. they just enforce themselves to do it mechanically, and have no confidence and patient. before they begin, they desire anxiously some day when they can speak out any word. and it is impossible to master the words if the learners just aspire to remember them but not to apply them in various environments. as a matter of fact, the applying of the language is a skill, which depends on practice. and practice makes perfect. what is more, the process of mastering a skill needs lots of time, during which, it is no doubt that the learners will meet many difficulties. but if the learners want to climb up the peak, they should be patient and keep on learning. virtually, remembering words is not as difficult as most students think. there is a story which happened to a university student. on the honor roll, it is written that the student never wins any scholarship and even does not passes the cet-4(english test for collage student), but he passes the test for the postgraduate. all of his friends think that he is joking when he makes the decision. but he just works hard. and what he wants to tell other students most is that it is never too late to have a try and there is nothing that people can not do. through the example, it can be found that study is not difficult, and the really difficult thing is the learners fear of the difficulties. therefore, as long as the english learners can overcome the fear of difficulties and build a right attitude, they should succeed some day.2. the applying of the newly learned wordsin language studying, how to remember words firmly is just like a headache which has confused english learners all the time. but to master a language, it is indispensable to remember lots of words. and naturally, with the increasing of the number of the words that the learners newly learn, it is possible and normal for learners to forget some. thus, in authors opinion, the best way to remember new words firmly is try the best to apply them.many students experiences show that they can remember the newly learned words when they apply them or meet them in their reading. even if they can not remember the certain meaning of the new words, they know that these new words are what they have rememberd. and they can find out those new words according to their memories, remembering again. on the contrary, if the learners never meet or apply a word newly learned for a long time, how could they know the word when meet it in their study? besides, the famous german psychologist hermann ebbinghaus announced his famous forgotten graph in 1885. this graph shows that after people have rememberd something, the amount of those things that have been forgotten is from more to less, and the speed of forgetting is from rapid to low. when the learners rememberd some new words in the morning, it is normal to forget about 20-30 in the afternoon, but 30-40 in the morning. what the learners have to do is to remember repeatedly within 24 hours. thus, constantly applying the newly learned words can make learners memory more firm before they forget. the solutions to word rememberingin order to solve problems stated previously, the author provides some methods which include two parts. the first part is the strategy of word remembering, and the second part is the detailed skills.a. the strategy of word rememberingat present, most english experts and learners researches are limited to the researches of detailed skills of remembering words, while the author thinks that a systematic method also can help english learners to a large extent.1. building a right attitude and determinationa right attitude is the precondition before people do everything. in psychology, it is said that things will get on as peoples will. if you think you can do the matter, you can. if you pretend to be active, and energetic before you launch something, and soon your body and faith will reach that state, and vice versa. in anthony robins (the first expert on potential exploring in the world) book which translated by dai mucai, there is a story as follows. in an aboriginal tribe of australia in 1925, a necromancer was doing an operation that could cut through the bone of a captive enemy who deeply believes that he has been affected by a terrible disease and is extremely possible to die. it is described like this. the man was quite a show of compassion. he stood there with his face full of fear and stared at the necromancer, waving his hands highly like waters, which seems to stop from the toxin from the sky. not long thereafter, he faced the color, and then i saw the white spittle. his body kept shaking. later, he kneeled to the ground, into a sudden come patient, but covered soon, and began to moan. after several minutes, he died. the whole process shows the importance of peoples faith. as it is, the necromancer never touches him. but the power caused by the mans faith raises the unbelievable effect on his body, which destroys him thoroughly. it is amazing! so, people can not belittle the power of their attitude and faith. therefore, if the english learners really want to gain abundant vocabulary, they should adjust their mind to believe their own competence while they are making a decision to do it.2. choosing a suitable vocabulary book can you imagine that you are doing a dull job repeatedly? nobody can tolerate it. but in the event that the learners are remembering boring words now, they are veritably challenging it. firstly, remembering words is truly tedious. what is worse, the learners are not interested in words that they are remembering. in addition, word remembering is a repeated process, and it is regrettable to say that human brain lacks of interest in repeated things. these reasons together will decrease the efficiency of remembering . so, to choose vocabulary books the learners like and in which the new words are useful for them will surely add to their interest, and they can remember words more effectively and will feel satisfied after have finished it. it will help english learners to remember further and more efficiently. besides, there are so many vocabulary books in the market. following the new word, some books have sentence examples or phrases, and some do not have. different students may choose different books. therefore, choosing a suitable vocabulary book has profound function in remembering.3. arranging time reasonably and adopting methods scientificallywhy do english learners need less time to remember chinese than english words? it is because in the daily study of english learners, chinese surrounds them all the time. but english dose not. so, english learners can arrange some time everyday to study english so that they could contact with english more frequently. but how to choose the most proper time that benefits the learners to remember? in psychology, it is stated that everyone has his physiology circle and has the most proper time of working and study in which peoples mind are most concentrated. thus, english learners can find out their most proper time of study according to practice and arrange time reasonably.after arranging time reasonably, the learners also need to find out a method of remembering words scientifically. it has been stated previously the forgotten graph of hermann ebbinghaus. according to this graph, many english experts and learners have published some books such as a series of book of spar english and bi-environment of english learning. in the introduction of most books, it has been given the methods of remembering words. students can choose one of those methods suggested in the vocabulary book, and also can conclude their own methods of remembering according to practice.4. reading morethere are two reasons that why people learn language. the first reason is that people think of remembering words as a tool to pass various kinds of english tests for their future career. the second reason is that people are really interested in the language and want to practice and master it. no matter which group the learners belong to, both are required to know how to apply english words. but remembering is just a preparing stage in english learning. maybe there are sentence examples following the new word in english learners vocabulary books. but
