Grammar General Introduction 概说 一、词的分类 英语中的单词可以根据词义、句法作用和形 式特征,分为十大类。 以上十种词类中,前六种可以在句子中独立 担任成分,称为实义词,而后四种都不能在 句子中独立担任任何成分,称为虚词。 分清词类很重要,不同的词类之间有不同的 关系,同时也担任不同的句子成分。 二、词类相互间的关系 形容词、数词通常修饰名词,形容词还可修 饰代词。 e.g. The three tall men are all soccer players. (数词three和形容词tall修饰名词men) He often writes something interesting in his diary. (形容词interesting修饰不定代词something ) 副词常修饰动词、形容词和副词。 e.g. Miss Liu plays the piano quite well. (副词well修饰动词plays,副词quite修饰另 一副词well) The news is very instructive. (副词very修饰形容词instructive) 冠词、介词、连接词和感叹词是虚词,在句 中不能单独构成句子成分,只起辅助和连接 作用。 冠词只用于名词之前,辅助指明名词的含义 。 介词与它后面的名词或代词构成介词短语时 ,才能在句中作定语、状语和表语。 连词起连接词、词组和句子的作用。 感叹词可看作特殊的一类,一般放在句首。 三、词类和句子成分的关系 句子是由作用不同的各部分组成的,这些部 分就叫做句子成分。句子成分可以是单词, 也可以是词组或从句。 在句子中起主要作用的句子成分有主语、谓 语,称为主要成分;起次要作用的有宾语、 宾语补足语、定语、状语、表语等,称为次 要成分。 主语是句子要说明的人或物,是句子的主体 ,通常放在句首。一般由名词或起名词作用 的其它词类、短语或从句担任。 e.g. Mr. Smith is a well-known musician. (名词作主语) Smoking is harmful to the health. (动名词作主语) What we are going to do has not decided yet. (从句作主
