Here are some major reasons for such a decision. 1.The health reason Medical studies prove that a vegetarian diet is easier to digest, provides a wider range of nutrients(营养) and has fewer burdens on the body. Vegetarians(素食者) are less influenced by all the major diseases, and thus live longer, healthier, more productive lives. They have fewer physical complaints, less frequent visits to the doctor, and smaller medical bills. In a word, they are in the most natural conditions of life.2. _ Planet earth is suffering. In large measure, the great loss of species, destruction of ancient rainforests to create lands where animals can feed on grass, loss of top soils, and the increase of water impurities(杂质) and air pollution have a common cause which is the single fact of meat in the human diet. No single decision that we can make as individuals (个人)or as a race can have such a dramatic effect on the improvement of our planetary ecology(生态) as the decision not to eat meat. Many seeking to save the planet for future generations have made this decision for this reason and this reason alone. 3.The economic reason The simple fact is that to produce 1 kilogram of meat, it requires over 16 kilograms of grain and much more water. Millions of animals are fed for meat production. If they were not fed, the vegetation would be used to feed people. And more people in hunger would have their food.61.Vegetarians prefer to live on vegetables for the reasons EXCEPT that _.A. vegetables are easier to digest B. they provide more kinds of nutrients C. the body will have fewer burdens D. vegetables are cleaner than meat62.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to this passage?A. If people live on vegetables, which of the following may NOT be affected by it?A. Grain quality . B. Air quality.C. Peoples health. D. Species(物种) of animals.CAbout ten men in every hundred suffer from color blindness in some way. Women are luckier; only about one in two hundred is affected in this matter. Perhaps, after all, it is safer to be driven by a woman! There are different forms of color blindness. In some cases a man may not be able to see deep red. He may think that red, orange and yellow are all shadows of green. Sometimes a person cannot tell the difference between blue and green. In rare cases an unlucky man may see everything in shades of green a strange world indeed.Color blindness in human beings is a strange thing to explain. In a single eye there are millions of very small things called “cones”. These help us to see in a bright light and to tell difference between colors. There are also millions of “rods”, but these are used for seeing when it is near dark. They show us shape but no color. Some insects have favorite colors. Mosquitoes prefer blue to yellow. A red light will not attract insects, but a blue lamp will. In a similar way human beings also have favorite colors. Yet we are lucky. With the aid of the cones in our eyes we can see many beautiful colors by day, and with the aid of the rods we can see shapes at night. One day we may even learn more about the invisible(看不见的)colors around us.66. The passage is mainly about _. A. color and its surprising effects. B. women being luckier than men C. color blindness D. danger caused by color blindness67.According to the passage, with the help of the “cones”, we can_. A. tell difference between colors B. see in a weak light C. kill mosquitoes D. tell different shapes 68. Why do some people say it is safer to be driven by women? A. Women are more careful. B. Women are fonder of driving than men. C. There are fewer color-blind women D. Women are weaker but quicker in thinking.69. Which of the statements about the color- blind is true? A. Not all of them have the same problem in recognizing color. B. None of them can see deep red. C. None of them can tell the difference between blue and green. D. All of them see everything in shades of green.70. We can attract and kill mosquitoes by using a _. A. blue light B. yellow light C. red light D. green lightD Language is a major problem for the European Union (EU). The agreement or treaty(条约) which created the organization that eventually became the EU, the Treaty of Rome, stated that each countrys language must be treated equally. The original(原来的) six countries had only three languages between them: French, German and Dutch/Flemish. However, there are now 15 countries in the EU, with a total of 12 languages. EU documents must be translated into all these languages, and at official meetings the speeches must be translated into all the languages by interpreters. All this translating is very expensive and time-consuming (费时的). It is said that nearly half of all employees of the EU are engaged in translating documents and speeches, and nearly half of the EUs administrative(管理方面的) costs are spent on this task. In the near future it is probable that several more countries, most of them having their own languages, will join the EU, thus making the situation even worse. The problem is not just cost; there are practical difficulties as well. With 12 languages, there are 132 possible translation situations that might be needed. It is often difficult to find people in the right place at the right time who can translate from (for example) Danish into Greek, or Dutch into Portuguese, at a high professional standard. In practice the problem has been made less severe by the use of English in many contacts between EU officials, since almost all of them speak some English. However, any move to reduce the number of official languages (perhaps to four or five) would be a blow to the pride of the smaller Countries. Another commonly suggested solution is to make English the official language for all EU business. However, this is strongly resisted by powerful member countries like France and Germany.71. The organization that eventually became the EU . A. was started by France and Germany B.was set up by the Treaty of Rome C. started with three countries D. included 132 languages72. Whats the main purpose of this passage? A. To give a solution to a problem. B. To show that the problem cannot be solved. C. To criticize the European Union for inefficiency. D. To find out a problem and show how severe it is.73. According to the writer, the use of English in contacts among EU officials has . A. angered the officials who dont speak English B. reduced the number of official languages C. been opposed by powerful member countriesD. reduced the effect of the problem74. The writer mentions Danish into Greek as an example of . A. a situation that might be difficult to deal with B. a situation that occurs often C. one of the 12 situations that requires an interpreterD. languages easily being interpreted75. The writer suggests that if the number of official languages was reduced . A. countries whose languages were not used officially would be unhappyB. the EU would not know which official languages to choose C. only languages which are easy to translate would be used officially D. the smaller member countries would be pleased.任务型读写。每空一词。(10分)Although many Chinese students say that their knowledge of English grammar is good, most would admit that their spoken English is poor. Whenever I speak to Chinese students, they always say, “ My spoken English is poor”. However, their spoken English doesnt have to remain “poor”. I would like to suggest that there may be some reasons for their problems with spoken English.First, they fail to find suitable words to express themselves due to a limited vocabulary. Obviously the better answer is to expand their vocabulary. However, you can speak with a limited vocabulary, if your attitude is positive. Others will follow you as long as you use the words that you know.Second, they are afraid of making mistakes. Sometimes they make mistakes when they are speaking, because they are shy and nervous. Yet students should remember that their goal should be fluency not accuracy. Your aim in writing is to be accurate following the rules for grammar and using tenses to get your message across. But to talk to someone in English, as quickly and well as you can, even though sometimes you may use a wrong word of tense, but it doesnt matter because the person you are speaking to will understand you.The third reason is that not enough attention is paid to listening. you have one mouth but two ears! All that hearing is necessary for you to start speaking.Fourth, most Chinese students are reactive rather than pro-active language learners. Instead of actively seeking out opportunities to improve their spoken English, they passively wait for speaking opportunities to come to them and wonder why their English always remains poor. If you have this pro-active outlook, then, you will see English opportunities wherever you go.If you dont use your English beyond the classroom you will forget that English you know. Remember USE IT FOR IT! You can learn how to speak English better by speaking English more. Title Problems with spoken English 1. Solutions/ TipsLimit of 2.
