精编优选练(十七)阅读理解主旨大意题1(限时:25分钟)ADuring lunch all my friends were talking about their families plans for winter break, and I was more than a little jealous (嫉妒的) since my parents couldnt take a vacation during Christmas week. I came home from school that day to find a newsletter from the Jewish Community (社区) Center, which contained an ad for an “alternative vacation” communityservice trip to New Orleans during Christmas week. I wondered whether cleaning neighborhoods destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag were really the way I wanted to spend Christmas vacation. I sent in an application anyway, went for an interview, and was actually very excited when I was accepted into the program. We arrived in New Orleans on December 23.First, we had dinner at a pizza place that had been destroyed by the hurricane. The owners told us about what they had gone through to rebuild their homes. On Christmas Eve, we spent the day removing garbage as part of a beautification project in the Lower Ninth Ward, which was most heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina. On Christmas Day, we worked at a center for homeless people. The people really appreciated our work, and we felt like we had made Christmas a little more special for them.My favorite project was helping at an animal rescue center. We walked the animals, cleaned their places, and fed them. Six thousand dogs and cats, separated from their owners, were rescued by that shelter after the hurricane. When I returned to New York and told my friends about my trip, I realized how ridiculous I had been to be jealous of their Christmas plans. I looked around at my house, my dog, my family, and everything I owned and felt really spoiled All the things I saw in New Orleans, all the amazing people I met, and the small ways I was able to contribute to the rebuilding of the city made that week the most memorable vacation I can imagine. 1What was the authors first reaction to the communityservice trip?AHe felt upset.BHe was excited.CHe felt hopeful. DHe was doubtful. 题干中的communityservice trip对应到文章第二段,由该段中的“I wondered whether.were really the way I wanted to spend Christmas vacation.” 此处需要注意B项,根据该段中的was actually very excited when I was accepted into the program可知,作者在被该项目组接受后感到很高兴,因此B项并不是作者对该社区服务之行的第一反应。答案:D2Which did the author like most?ARemoving garbage.BHelping the homeless.CWorking with animals.DDining with survivors. 作者在第三至六段中介绍自己具体的志愿工作,其中第六段首句“My favorite project was helping at an animal rescue center.” C3What can we infer about the authors trip? AIt was very precious to him.BIt strengthened his family ties.CIt freed him from envying others.DIt improved his interpersonal skills. All the things I saw in New Orleans, all the amazing people I met,and the small ways I was able to contribute to the rebuilding of the city made that week the most memorable vacation I can imagine. A4What can be the best title for the text?AThe Most Memorable DayBMy Special Christmas VacationCPostdisaster ReconstructionDA Big Contribution to Society解析:标题归纳题。 BBImagine this scene:its blowing outside, and you snuggle (蜷伏) up on the sofa under a warm quilt, chatting and recalling with your closest friends. That content, cosy feeling, has a name in Danishhygge. And, as Denmark recently won the title of “the happiest country in the world”, the concept of hygge is known to more and more people interested in finding ways to understand this concept. Hyggeoriginally from a Norwegian word meaning wellbeingdoesnt have an exact equivalent (对应物) in English. Its often translated as coziness, or as blogger Anna West told the BBC,“coziness of the soul”. But, professor Maren Spark explains, “Hygge_was_never_meant_to_be_translated._It_was_meant_to_be_felt.”Basically, hygge involves creating a warm, cosy atmosphere and enjoying it with your loved ones. Danish winters are long and dark, so achieving hygge is particularly relevant during this season. A typical hygge activity during winter could be enjoying delicious homemade food and lighthearted conversation with friends preferably in the warm glow of candlelight, or maybe sipping a glass of wine in the hot tub after a day spent skiing. However, hygge isnt only limited to the cold winter months it can also describe that warm, fuzzy feeling you get after a walk through a forest with friends on a summers day or a family barbecue in the park.Hygge is meant to be shared. 5The author asks the readers to imagine the scene in the first paragraph to _.Ahelp the readers to calm downBintroduce the topic of the passageCpresent the main idea of the passageDremind the readers of their past memories解析: 推理判断题。 B6What do the underlined sentences by Maren Spark mean?AThe translation of the word “hygge” is not good enough.BOnly Danish speakers know what “hygge” means.C“Hygge” is easy to translate but hard to feel.DWe can get the true meaning of “hygge” by feeling it. D7Which of the following can be best described as a “hygge” activity?ASkiing in the cold winter months.BLiving through long dark winters.CTaking afternoon tea with friends.DWalking alone in the forest. C项中的“Taking afternoon tea”符合“creating a warm, cosy atmosphere”,“friends”对应“your loved ones”。 故选C项。答案:C8The author writes this passage to _.AexplainBpersuadeCcomment Dadvertise解析: 写作目的题。 故选A项。 答案:ACTwo of the saddest words in the English language are “if only”. I live my life with the goal of never having to say those words, because they convey regrets, lost opportunities, mistakes, and disappointment. My father is famous in our family for saying, “Take the extra minute to do it right.” I always try to live by the “extra minute” rule. When my children were young and likely to cause accidents, I always thought about what I could do to avoid an “if only” moment, whether it was something minor like moving a cup full of hot coffee away from the edge of a counter,or something that required a little more work such as taping padding (衬垫) to the sharp corners of a glass coffee table.I dont only avoid those “if only” moments when it comes to safety. Its equally important to avoid “if only” in our personal relationships. We all know people who lost a loved one and regretted that they had forgone an opportunity to say “I love you” or “ I forgive you”. When my father announced he was going to the eye doctor across from my office on Good Friday, I told him that it was a holiday for my company and I wouldnt be here. But then I thought about the fact that he was 84 years old and I realized that I shouldnt miss an opportunity to see him.I called him and told him I had decided to go to work on my day off after all.I know there will still be occasions when I have to say “if only” about something, but my life is definitely better because of my policy of doing everything possible to avoid that eventuality. And even though it takes an extra minute to do something right, or it occasionally takes an hour or two in my busy schedule to make a personal connection, I know that Im doing the right thing. Im buying myself peace of mind and thats the best kind of insurance for my emotional wellbeing. 9Why does the writer regard “if only” as two of the saddest words in the English language?ABecause people use them when they feel sad.BBecause they express regrets and disappointment in life.CBecause they remind the writer of some sad experiences.DBecause they mean sadness in the English language. 由第一段中的“Two of the saddest words in the English languag
