第2单元 同声传译记忆 Reference Key to Exercises Text 1 Distinguished Leaders, Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen and Friends from the Media, Good morning! Today I would like to speak in Chinese. Please pardon me if I make any pronunciation mistake. First, I would like to thank Baiyun Airport and Tourism Administration of Guangdong Province for giving us this opportunity to introduce Finnair. Finnair may not be a familiar brand to you. In the 1980s, we only had domestic flights, and very few international flights to some part of Northern Europe. At that time, we were a very small company. But by next summer, Finnair will have nearly 60 flights between Europe and Asia, which means we are developing very fast. Why has Finnair chosen “Fly the Straightest Way from Asia to Europe” as our slogan? It is because if you look at the globe, you will find that Finland is the closest European country to China. There is only Russia between us. It is because of this geographical reason that Finnair has chosen to offer this service. As an air company between Europe and Asia, we take Asian passengers to Europe, and European passengers to Asia. We are actually transferring this geographical advantage into our brand. Right now, we have flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Although there are only four flights per week to Guangzhou, we hope that the flights will increase to seven as the other three cities. Then what is Finnairs service? That is to take you to Helsinki Airport, which is our hub airport first, and then transfer you to any of the 42 destinations in Europe in no time. Therefore, you take off from Guangzhou to Helsinki, and then transfer to other European cities from Helsinki. Of course, as a Finnish air company, we also have 21 domestic destinations at your choice. I will skip this part, as it is approaching lunch time. Finnair also has other advantages. For example, we have numerous choices of flight schedule to Europe and short transferring time. The shortest transferring time in Helsinki is 35 minutes. For your information, the 35 minutes include all the customs procedures, which means it is very fast. How can we achieve this? It is because the Helsinki Airport is very small; hence it brings great convenience to passengers to transfer quickly. Actually through this picture, I would like to show that flights from Guangzhou will bring you to any city, even the southernmost cities in Europe within 15 hours. Finnair has developed rapidly in recent years. All of our business class can be compared to facilities in five-star hotels. The facilities and service of the business class is the pride of every air company, and Finnair is of no exception. We established route to Guangzhou two years ago. But this year marks the twentieth anniversary of Finnair airlines to Beijing. During the past two decades, we tried to excel in Chinas market. But how? In my opinion, that is to let Chinese customers feel comfortable when they transfer in Helsinki without any difficulty. In order to achieve this, we provide ground crew who speak Chinese, including Chinese-speaking stewardesses. And of course, instruction signs in Chinese and Chinese-speaking ground service staff. With these, our customers will transfer smoothly with comfort. Finnair is a member of Oneworld, a large alliance. Maybe the leaders present today know that Cathay Pacific Airways is also a member of Oneworld. I will go through the rest slides quickly. Next will be some pictures. We have ordered many new airbuses last year, over 30 airbuses. We are now waiting for these new products, which will arrive soon. A340 is an excellent type; I believe anyone who has experienced it must know it. We have chosen some small-sized airplanes for inland flights. Why? Because we want to cover a lot of destinations, which means we would like to go anywhere you want to go. When the passenger flow volume is comparatively limited, it is more environmentally friendly for us to use smaller planes. Plus it is suitable for the actual passenger flow volume. That is so much for my speech. Finally, I would like to say that I am much honored to have this opportunity to share with you my opinions. And I am very glad to have the chance to introduce Finnair to you. As a salesperson, it is really rare for us to cut a long story short like this, especially for me. (Full text of the remarks by Rebekka Mikkola, Genearal Manager for South China of Finnair at “Flying from Guangzhou” Promotion Convention of the 2007 Guangdong Interntional Tourism and Cultural Festival on November 24, 2007, as transcribed) Text 2 在这个令人激动的时期来到中国是再好不过的一件事儿了。跟我 一样从事教学事业的人们常常都会对事情抱有很有趣很新鲜的观点。这 些观点可能是长住居民不曾有的,所以起初,主办方请我就南海的持续 发展谈谈看法。但是我觉得作为一个英国老师,我没有资格详细评论商 业或财经方面的事情,所以让我谈另一些方面的问题也许更为合适且更 有帮助,这些问题要么表现了时效性,令我印象深刻,要么让我思索如 何改观现状。因此,我的重点将毫无疑问地放在教育方面,在贵地的这 段时间里我一直都关注这个问题。 在别人给我用来准备这次演讲的材料中,有一条是叫我讲讲我对南海 的看法,一个五星级的南海应该是怎么样的。我觉得这个说法很有趣, 因为我觉得我从未遇到过一个五星级的城市或地区。但任何地方都应该 不断听取意见,并在持续的发展中不断提升。每一个地方都有优点:因 为这些优点,这个地方变得特别;每一个地方都有缺点:这些缺点值得 我们的注意,比如犯罪、医疗保障、交通或者是教育。南海也不例外。 虽然我对中国非常感兴趣,但我才来了14个月而已,所以我对这个国家 的研究算不上是专家。我所说的一切都是从一个外国人的角度出发的, 或者是一个在这里生活、工作的人的观点。所以在听我的建议的时候请 别忘了这一点。 谈到未来,我想到的第一件事情是教育,教育下一代人不犯同样的错 误。不管你看到多远的未来,任何地区的儿童和学生都必须是你关注的 焦点。他们在教室里勤奋学习,为了长大后继续各位正在从事的事业。 正是因为这点,我觉得南海会有一个光明繁荣的未来。我每天所教的那 些学生在我看来是中国目前所有的、唯一的、也是最大的财富。很快他 们就会带着这个国家克服艰难险阻。我常常将中国的学生和英国的同龄 学生相比较,中国的孩子很有责任心,很懂得尊重人,很无私,这些品 质让许多英国学生都汗颜。能教这些中国孩子我觉得很幸运,我因而同 情那些在英国的老师们。西方的学生应向这里的孩子学习,我觉得在这 里教书很开心。 我常听说这样一种说法:没有差学生,只有差老师。这种说法正确与 否仍无定论。但是,即使在中国,我觉得学校本身应该做出更大努力来 提供多样化的教育。当然,学校的竞争激烈,大家奋勇争先,主课依然 是首要的,但是我常常看到确实是有想法的学生,因此我们也应该鼓励 并给他们机会去发挥。我常常看到有些学生苦苦地挣扎,想让别人听到 自己的想法,但是遗憾的是,没人理会他们,更别说鼓励了,特别是在 关于他们未来的事上。 去年,我们学校允许我给年纪最小的一年级学生开设戏剧课。这可以 帮助他们提高英语水平,而且是在一个非正式的、创新的且更有启发性 的环境中来提高。这门课非常成功,学生们认为这是一个好方法,让他 们可以偶尔做回自我而又不觉得惭愧。遗憾的是,想上这门课的学生太 多,课堂变得过于拥挤。我建议其他的学校也可以将开设类似的课程纳 入计划。英语角也不错,但是如果再加入一些像戏剧课这样能让人全身 心投入的元素会更为有效。任何国家的学生都应该获得良好的指导,而 我看到的是,很多时候学生们在做人生的重大决策时,特别是在选择职 业生涯方面,缺乏信息和指导。他们本应该处于一个充满选择的环境 中,有人引导他们,仔细地为他们考虑。在中国,和在其他国家一样, 年青人没有安全感。我觉得在课外给这些学生提供更好的指导是有必要 的。信息中心、顺畅的建议渠道和诚实公正的指引是学生们急切需要 的。然而是成立一个当地年轻人建议小组,还是确保老师能够履行他们 的义务,就由在座的各位来决定了。 在中国的学校工作可以了解其教育基础设施的日常运转情况,这对于 我来说是个优势,很有价值。我有很多同事在广州和佛山的中学工作, 所以我不可能忽视各个学校以及他们的管理体系的异同。在实验中学工 作,我对人们对待教学的不同态度很感兴趣,而不管这所实验中学由于 种种原因比普通的中学是好还是差,有时候很难不把实验中学看作是企 业。 我经常碰到学生们极其听话,学习也很努力,偶尔还可以看到学生的 学习和个人指引并不总是学校的工作的重点,这些学校就象企业,把赚 钱放在首位。他们应该加以注意。我提这条建议的出发点只是我觉得所 有的钱都应该花在学生的教育上,教学设施以及辛勤工作的老师才是这 些钱最合适的去处,也是最需要这些钱的地方。 我在英格兰南部上高中的时候,可以得到许多和未来机会相关的信 息,并且可以得到一对一的职业生涯指导,信息和指导的提供者是学校 的职业图书馆。职业图书馆有很多资源,如果学生要为毕业后的生活做 规划,他们都可以去使用这些资源。互联网资源、图书、职业生涯办公 室、还有所有的参考资料会详细介绍工作机会并列出上百份工作的资历 要求。甚至还有与公司的合作项目,通常为期一周,可以让学生在学校 就拥有宝贵的工作经验。这种服务是很重要的,它可以帮助学生为将来 做计划。南海的学校在校内,高校内建立职业生涯图书馆,就可以在未 来职业发展方面为最有才华的学生提供最好的建议。这是一个例子,说 明了加强学生和老师之间的交流,进而促进学校和当地企业的交流是多 么重要。 教育这个话题马上结束,但我觉得,正是交流这个想法在南海日常生 活的任何一个方面都可以得到加强。 我刚到中国的时候,英国文化协会组织给我们提供了很多的帮助和 支持,他们还大致提供了在中国生活的建议。为了让我们更好地适应被 他们称作“文化冲击”的东西,他们告诉外国人,比如我,这些感觉是因 为缺乏交流,“文化冲击”是其中之一。起初我以为只有我们才会遇到这 种问题,因为语言障碍加重了隔阂,但后来跟很多中国同事聊天后发现 他们对缺乏交流的影响也感同身受。在座的每个人都知道事先计划的重 要性,但是生活中并不是每次都能提前计划的。在最后一刻才告知某人 某件事,不是获得他人帮助的最佳方法。这样做,你没法让人相信你的 态度是认真的,不管你是想帮别人也好,还是想让别人帮你也好。如果 别人提前计划,提前一天或者几天先打个招呼,那么你就更有可能答应 他提出的要求。在与外国人打交道的时候,我是说跟外国人做生意时, 这是尤其重要的。你会发觉一切会因此变得更为高效。 我能被邀请来谈我的观点,感到很荣幸,虽然我讲的是一些需要改 进的地方,我还是想说我之所以决定回到这里来生活并继续在学校工 作,主要还是因为我遇到的绝大多数人都是很友好的,而且我可以有很 多机会来帮助并鼓励你们的学生。正如我开始时所说的,每个地方都有 其优点和缺点,有值得骄傲的地方,也有要改进的地方。在这里生活, 我有机会学到很多东西。大家来听我发言我觉得很骄傲,我希望我的建 议可以对南海有所帮助,谢谢大家给我这次机会。 (2007年9月21日,南海石门实验学校教师约瑟夫布利斯科在“2007南海 区中外企业、友人座谈会”上的演讲,全文,根据录音材料整理) Text 3 Respected Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends, Its my great honor to attend the “2006 International Tourism and Culture Festival & PPRD Tourism Promotion Conference”. And as the representative of investors of travel service in Guangdong, I feel honored to brief you on our investment and operation of the Ocean Spring Resort in Zhuhai, Guangdong, and share with you our experience in this regard. As we know, with our economy developing rapidly and our living standard rising greatly, tourism has become a fashion among people and an integral part of peoples daily life. According to the estimates by World Tourism Organization, Chinas tourism, in the next 10 years, will increase by 8% every year and tourism revenues by 15% per year. China Travel Service Hong Kong Limited (CTS) is the only enterprise focusing on travel service under the direct management of State Asset Supervision and Administration Commission like 52 other key mega enterprises. CTS takes optimizing, strengthening and enlarging its main travel business as the internal demand of its development, emphasizes the integration and development of its main travel business and strengthens the comprehensive complementary service for tourism. By following the path of being a supplier of tourist products, CTS has constantly enhanced the key competitiveness of its main business and achieved sound economic and social benefits. As early as in the year 1985, CTS made investment in the development and construction of Shenzhen OCT, and built the best and first-class cultural theme park groups in China. The first one was opened to the public is Splendid China, followed by China Folk Culture Villages and the Window of the World. All of them have achieved great success and started the craze for theme parks in China. In 1992, CTS subsidiary Hong Kong China Travel Service International Investment Limited was successfully listed in Hong Kong. Now our assets have increased by 12 times. Since the beginning of the new century, travel products and the trend of tourism have undergone great changes. Domestic tourism in the 1980s was featured by pure sightseeing. However, in the 1990s, tourism entered a new stage marked by participation and interaction. In the 21st century, Chinas tourism, with the development of national economy and the improvement of peoples living standard, has now moved toward leisure and holiday travel. Several months ago, Mr. Shao, Director of the National Tourism Administration paid a visit to Ocean Spring Resort and gave our work full recognition. Meanwhile, he expressed his expectations of us to make Ocean Spring Resort the first demonstrative resort in China focusing on travel, leisure and holiday, which inspired us greatly. Now tourism has moved toward the trend of leisure and holiday, with drive travel, free walker and participatory tourist items enriched and developed continuously. Moreover, instead of relying on entity travel agencies and their face-to-face services, tourism now has gradually moved toward on-line service, which has raised new and higher requirement on the travel service industry. What encourages us is that the Guangdong Provincial CPC Committee and the provincial government attach great importance to the development of tourism and put forward policies and measures aimed at further accelerating and supporting the development of tourism. These policies and measures will actively promote the development of an innovative Guangdong and the internationalization of tourism economy, and have provided a great opportunity for CTS to make investment in the new tourist items in Guangdong. From 2001 to 2002, we carried out investigation of Zhuhai and decided to build a large spring resort in Pingsha. In April 2002, we started the construction of the project. And in January this year, that is, on January 22, Ocean Spring Resort was officially opened. Although we had merely ten months of soft-open, the number of visitors to the resort this year can be expected to exceed 3 million and the operating revenue will reach 360 million yuan, with an estimated growth rate of 30% next year. The first phase of Ocean Spring Resort, I mean the current site of OSR, covers a land area of 5.1 square kilometers. In the first phase, only about 1 square km of land was developed. There are all together 8 main items including spring center, hotel, park, fishers wharf, theater, medical center and training camps, etc. OSR is now the most comprehensive and distinctive resort in China aimed at demonstrating world spring culture and creating theme culture. The comprehensive and systematic tourism resources will be the selling point of our resort, which will draw tourists of different ages and levels and stimulate their interests in all respects. Looking back on the construction and development of OSR over the past five years, we have realized that with the strategic decision made by the CPC central committee and Guangdong Provincial CPC committee and government, with the strong support and full cooperation of Zhuhai government and relative departments and with such a sound investment environment, the construction and development of OSR will surely reach a higher level. As investors, we give top priority to three Rs: Return, Risk and Responsibility. We as investors of course care most about our return, and we will also take the involved risks into account. Most importantly, we should be responsible for our society, our shareholders, our citizens and our government, and shoulder corporate social responsibility in this regard. These three aspects will all be taken into full consideration in decision making. The Guangdong provincial and Zhuhai municipal government have provided us with strong support. Moreover, Zhuhai boasts excellent scarce resources and beautiful environment. As a result, we have more and more confidence in our investment here. And the soft-open over the past ten months has also proved this and we have also made profitable return. As we know, one yuan of tourism revenue can stimulate related economies to generate seven yuan of revenue. Based on such a ratio of 1:7, we will fuel the local economy and bring about a total of several billion yuan in return. Therefore, looking forward to the future, we have every confidence about the investment and business environment in Guangdong and Zhuhai. We will speed up the second and third phase of the construction of OSR. It is estimated that in 2010 our total investment volume will reach five billion yuan. We will further our construction to build a comprehensive sports park, golf course, spring museum, spring villas and golf villas. Thus, we will further enhance the comprehensive and systematic facilities of OSR and improve its comprehensive competitiveness. We have the resolution and confidence, especially with the care and support of Guangdong and Zhuhai governments as well as different departments as always, to build OSR into the domestic first-class and world advanced leisure resort, so as to jointly bring Guangdongs tourism to a higher level and make due contribution to Guangdongs economic development. (Full text of the remarks by Wang Changle, President of Haiquan Bay Resort at “2006 Pan PRD Tourism Business Promotion Conference” on November 25, 2006, as transcribed) Text 4 尊敬的老师们,同学们: 在任何一个校园里演讲都是令人愉快的。而在这样一所宏伟的学 校,面对如此多的同学,尤其如此。 今天,我想简单的讲一下整个世界,然后稍微谈一谈中国,然后再 谈一谈大学,最后,说一下作为学生的你们,以及你们在前进的路途上 会遇到什么。 放眼世界,我想在过去的十年里主要有两个大的变化, 这两大变化影 响了我们所有人。首先,世界上每一个国家都进入了自由经济体制,也 就是说成为了世界自由贸易体系的一部分,大多数国家之间商品和服务 的交流更为方便,而这个变化只是发生在几年以前。世界上将近一半的 人口在过去十年中加入到了自由经济体系中来,其中包括中国、印度、 东欧、还有拉丁美洲的一些国家。所以,世界自由经济结构发生了重大 的变化,这意味着如果你在任何一个国家,你可以与其他任何国家做生 意,特别是在知识经济的商品、服务及创意领域。 过去十年发生的另一个变化与技术和网络有关。今天,地球上任何两 点之间的交流都是很容易的,而且一点也不贵,你可以转让知识,转让 信息,与世界上任何地方交流,几乎不用付钱。而如果你将这两个主要 变化结合起来,这就意味着当今世界有着很大的机遇,也存在着激烈的 竞争。竞争驱使我们前进,机遇也驱使我们前进。所以每个国家都必须 适应这个变化。每个国家都要使自己的经济适应这种新的竞争和新的机 遇。所以如果你考虑国家可以做些什么,国家其实可以做三件事情,从 而使他们的公民在发展过程中更具竞争力。第一件事是使你们现在能在 这里接受大学教育。国家可以提供良好的教育,以及与你的教育水平相 称的生活标准,所以一国国民教育程度越高,其生活水平提高的机会也 相应更大,因此也就更具有经济竞争力。所以,为所有公民提供教育机 会是非常重要的。 国家可以做的第二件事情是投资研发。研发可以创造新理念,理念 可以创造新产品、新服务、新公司。所以我们需要投资研发,就像一个 国家的生活标准与劳动力的受教育程度相关,改善一个国家的生活标准 和经济竞争力通常都与其研发投资紧密相关。中国显然认识到了这一 点,在过去的十年里,中国很重视教育,近来中国更加重视扩大和增加 研发投资。 国家可以做的第三件事是创造一个良好的环境,让人才、受过良好教 育的人才通过研发想出很好的主意,进而创造新产品、新公司、新服 务、新的经济增长。所以政府,每个国家的中央政府都应该重视教育和 研发,从而创造出一个良好的环境,让人们易于成功,并且让杰出的人 才能够成功。我们在中国见到越来越多这种昂扬的精神状态。我的公司 刚好是世界最大的高科技风险投资公司。中国现在的高科技风险投资越 来越多,在10年前,这些投资主要是投在美国,但是现在,只有50%是 在美国,而剩下50%的则是在亚洲。以上就是我们说的每个国家都可以 做的三件事:教育、研发和环境创造。 公司跟国家也没什么不同,如果你看我们公司,我们同样也是注重以 上这三件事来取得成功。我们雇请最优秀的人才、受过良好教育的人 才,投入大笔资金在研发上,从而创造出最新的产品,然后为我们的研 发人员提供良好的环境,使他们更易于成功,把他们的理念带到市场中
