Unit 4Sharing.阅读理解A(2017河南鹤壁高级中学9月周练)The stories we share with one another are important. They show wisdom and provide inspiration. They are important to our development. But sometimes people choose not to tell.Consider the negative effects of not sharing a story in the news: People are wondering if public health officials are holding back too much information about the recent outbreak of Ebola. There is a danger in holding back stories that ought to be told. Bobette Buster said it like this, “The fact is, history has shown us that stories not told can become like a dangerous genie (妖怪) left in a bottle. When they are finally uncorked, their power to destroy is set free.”There are a number of reasons why we hide parts of our story: they often show our weaknesses or expose our disadvantages; they require courage and strength to share; and of course, there are some stories that should be kept secretespecially those that embarrass someone else. Most of us have two selves: the one we display on the outside and the one we actually are on the inside. And the better we get at hiding the stories that show our true selves, the more damage we may be causing to ourselves and to others.Honesty and openness is important: It proves we are trustworthy. It displays we are human. We are not perfect or better. It highlights the importance of hard work and personal development. Hard work may not allow us to overcome our disadvantages completely. But with hard work, we do not have to be restricted to our mistakes.Does this mean we admit every weakness, every disadvantage, and every secret regret to everybody we meet? No, of course not. There is a time and a place and a certain level of relationship necessary for some stories to be told in an appropriate manner.1.Whats the function of the example in Paragraph 2?A.It reflects that people are concerning about the spread of Ebola.B.It shows the bad effect caused by sharing a story.C.It proves not sharing a story can cause trouble.D.It concludes that one should share a story at a proper time.2.One of the reasons why people are unwilling to share experiences is that .A.story-sharing highlights the importance of hard workB.people are used to exposing their weaknessesC.people sometimes have no courage to share their storiesD.some stories make themselves feel uneasy3.Which is close in meaning to the underlined word “uncorked” in Paragraph 3?A.Freed.B.Broken.C.Unfolded.D.Untouched.4.The writer aims to convince us to .A.be open to people close to you by sharing some secretsB.share stories appropriately for the good of others and ourselvesC.remove the dangers that can be caused by untold storiesD.realize the importance of being honest when making friendsBConflict is on the menu tonight at the cafe La Chope. This evening,as on every Thursday night, psychologist Maud Lehanne is leading two of Frances favorite pastimes, coffee drinking and the“talking cure”.Here they are learning to get in touch with their true feelings. It isnt always easy. The customerssome thirty Parisians who pay just under $2(plus drinks)per sessionare quick to intellectualize(高谈阔论),slow to open up and connect.“You are forbidden to sayone feels, orpeople think,”Lehanne told them.“Say I think,Think me.”A cafe society where no intellectualizing is allowed? It couldnt seem more un-French.But Lehannes psychology cafe is about more than knowing oneself:Its trying to help the citys troubled neighborhood cafes.Over the years,Parisian cafes have fallen victim to changes in the French lifestylelonger working hours,a fast-food boom and a younger generations desire to spend more time at home.Dozens of new theme cafes appear to change the situation.Cafes focused around psychology, history, and engineering are catching on,filling tables well into the evening. The citys“psychology cafes”,which offer great comfort, are among the most popular places.Middle-aged homemakers, retirees, and the unemployed come to such cafes to talk about love, anger, and dreams with a psychologist. And they come to Lehannes group just to learn to say what they feel.“Theres a strong need in Paris for communication,”says Maurice Frisch,a cafe La Chope regular who works as a religious instructor in a nearby church.“People have few real friends. And they need to open up.”Lehanne says shed like to see psychology cafes all over France.“If people had normal lives, these cafes wouldnt exist,”she says.“If life werent a battle, people wouldnt need a special place just to speak.”But then,it wouldnt be France.5.What are people encouraged to do at the cafe La Chope?A.Learn a new subject.B.Keep in touch with friends.C.Show off their knowledge.D.Express their true feelings.6.How are cafes affected by French lifestyle changes?A.They are less frequently visited.B.They stay open for longer hours.C.They have bigger night crowds.D.They start to serve fast food.7.What are theme cafes expected to do?A.Create more jobs.B.Supply better drinks.C.Save the cafe business.D.Serve the neighborhood.8.Why are psychology cafes becoming popular in Paris?A.They bring people true friendship.B.They give people spiritual support.C.They help people realize their dreams.D.They offer a platform for business links.语法填空(2018吉林长春高三一模)阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。Jin Hanmiao, a first grader from China, received a reply letter from Buckingham Palace1 (recent) after writing to introduce the China-Britain express railway service. The letter is based2the 19-day journey of the first China-Britain freight(货运)train.3(see) the news of its return to Yiwu, Jins mother encouraged him to write about it and then send the letter to Queen Elizabeth. In his letter, Jin introduced4(he) and Yiwu, as well as his hope5the queen could appreciate the6(tradition) Chinese culture.
