河北定州中学2016-2017学年第一学期高二英语周练试题(12)一、阅读理解If you have ever been left wondering why your emails are riddled(充斥着) with grammatical errors, or why you can never quite find the right phrase, it may be because you are typing with both hands. Our vocabulary becomes richer and our writing style becomes more fluent when we type using just one hand, scientists have found. Typing can be too fluent or too fast, and it can actually weaken the writing process, said Srdan Medimorec, the lead author of the study conducted at the department of psychology at the University of Waterloo, Canada. It seems that what we write is a product of the interaction(互动) between our thoughts and the tools we use to express them. Using text-analysis software, researchers asked 103 university students to write essays under different conditions, using one hand to type and using both hands to type. The software was used to analyze(分析) elements of the essays, such as range of vocabulary, sentence complexity and the cohesion(衔接) of the writing. Researchers found that participants vocabulary became more advanced when they typed with one hand rather than two. The research team said that by slowing our writing down, typing one-handed allows more time for an internal (内在的) word search, resulting in a larger variety of words. In contrast, fast typists might just write the first word that comes to mind. However, it is important not to slow typing down too much. Those who typed essays one-handed in the current study slowed down to about the speed of handwriting. This is the first study to show that changing peoples typing can make their writing get better. The researchers suggested that the speed of writing could affect writing quality regardless of the tools used, whether they are computers, or pen and paper, although further research would be required to prove that idea.1 The underlined “it” in the second paragraph refers to_.A. the writing style B. typing too fast or fluently C. the vocabulary D. which hand to use for typing2 Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?A. Elements weakening the writing process Five years ago, when I taught art at a school in Seattle, I used Tinkertoys as a test at the beginning of a term to find out something about my students. I put a small set of Tinkertoys in front of each student, and said: “Make something out of the Tinkertoys. You have 45 minutes todayand 45minutes each day for the rest of the week.” A few students hesitated to start. They waited to see what the rest of the class would do. Several others checked the instructions and made something according to one of the model plans provided. Another group built something out of their own imaginations. Once I had a boy who worked experimentally with Tinkertoys in his free time. His constructions filled a shelf in the art classroom and a good part of his bedroom at home. I was delighted at the presence of such a student. Here was an exceptionally creative mind at work. His presence meant that I had an unexpected teaching assistant in class whose creativity would infect(感染) other students. Encouraging this kind of thinking has a downside. I ran the risk of losing those students who had a different style of thinking. Without fail one would declare, “But Im just not creative.” “Do you dream at night when youre asleep?” “Oh, sure.” “So tell me one of your most interesting dreams.” The student would tell something wildly imaginative. Flying in the sky or in a time machine or growing three heads. “Thats pretty creative. Who does that for you?” “Nobody. I do it.” “Reallyat night, when youre asleep?” “Sure.” “Try doing it in the daytime, in class, okay?”5The teacher used Tinkertoys in class in order to _.A. know more about the students B. make the lessons more exciting C. raise the students interest in art D. teach the students about toy design6What do we know about the boy mentioned in Paragraph 3?A. He liked to help his teacher. B. He preferred to study alone. C. He was active in class. D. He was imaginative.7What does the underlined word “downside” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?A. Mistake. B. Drawback. C. Difficulty. D. Burden.8Why did the teacher ask the students to talk about their dreams?A. To help them to see their creativity. B. To find out about their sleeping habits. C. To help them to improve their memory. D. To find out about their ways of thinking. While students in Yinchuan are quite used to clear skies, Beijing teenagers are not so lucky. I hate pollution. Once I was riding my bike in the morning when I almost had a traffic accident because I couldnt see a car only metres away from me in fog. ”In early October, the skies were covered by such a thick fog that a display show by the visiting French Air Force was called off.Rapid development, industry, traffic fumes and sandstorms from the desert all contribute to the citys bad air.9The passage is mainly about .A. a programme aiming at improving Beijings air qualityB. progress made in Beijings air qualityC.
