Unit 4 Body language.阅读理解AThe Minions(2017安徽江南十校联考)These yellow creatures become a big hit for their cuteness of loving bananas, nonsense words and silly movements. When you watched Despicable Me (2010),did you predict the Minions would later become the main attraction? From background characters and then main characters, their success proves good animated creations can take on a life of their own spinoffs (续集)The penguinsThe penguins were originally just sidekicks in Madagascar (2005). But in 2008 they took leading roles in their own TV series, and in 2014 starred in the film Penguins of Madagascar. The penguins wit, sarcasm and crafty composure not only adds attraction to the kidfriendly franchise, but also serves adult audiences well. So its not surprising that they got their own movie.ScratA small and furry squirrel with a long tail from animated movie Ice Age (2002), Scrat has won peoples hearts with its persistence in acorns. It is a big part of its(Ice Ages) enduring appeal. He demands a lot of nuts, but he is a superstar, and he does his own stunts. Scrat now has his own animated shorts, extended scenes and minimovies.Puss in BootsOriginally a fairy tale written by French author Charles Perraut,Puss in Boots features a cat that helps his lowborn master gain wealth and power through trickery. The cat later appeared in the Shrek franchise. In 2011, he had his own movie fittingly titled Puss in Boots.1According to the text, an adult is more likely to enjoy the character _.Athe MinionsBthe penguinsCScrat DPuss in Boots2Which is close in meaning to the underlined word “sidekicks” in the second part?Aassistants Bleading playersCstandersby Dminor roles3What do the four characters have in common?AThey have contributed most to the success of their original films.BThey have proved that the audience usually favor cute animals.CThey have completely stolen the show with their own series.DThey have shown their shared qualities of honesty, loyalty and unselfishness.【语篇导读】本文介绍了四个受欢迎的动画电影角色,都是由之前的电影配角到主角,深受人们的喜爱。 根据文章第二段倒数第二句.but also serves adult audiences well. But in 2008 they took leading roles in their own TV series . steal the show意为“抢镜头,大出风头”。故选C项。B(2016高考全国乙卷)The meaning of silence varies among cultural groups.Silences may be thoughtful,or they may be empty when a person has nothing to say.A silence in a conversation may also show stubbornness, uneasiness,or worry.Silence may be viewed by some cultural groups as extremely uncomfortable;therefore attempts may be made to fill every gap(间隙) with conversation.Persons in other cultural groups value silence and view it as necessary for understanding a persons needs. Many Native Americans value silence and feel it is a basic part of communicating among people, just as some traditional Chinese and Thai persons do.Therefore, when a person from one of these cultures is speaking and suddenly stops, what may be implied(暗示) is that the person wants the listener to consider what has been said before continuing. In these cultures, silence is a call for reflection.Other cultures may use silence in other ways, particularly when dealing with conflicts among people or in relationships of people with different amounts of power. For example,Russian,French, and Spanish persons may use silence to show agreement between parties about the topic under discussion. However,Mexicans may use silence when instructions are given by a person in authority rather than be rude to that person by arguing with him or her.In still another use, persons in Asian cultures may view silence as a sign of respect, particularly to an elder or a person in authority.Nurses and other caregivers need to be aware of the possible meanings of silence when they come across the personal anxiety their patients may be experiencing.Nurses should recognize their own personal and cultural construction of silence so that a patients silence is not interrupted too early or allowed to go on unnecessarily.A nurse who understands the healing (治愈) value of silence can use this understanding to assist in the care of patients from their own and from other cultures.4What does the author say about silence in conversations?AIt implies anger.BIt promotes friendship.CIt is culturespecific. DIt is contentbased.5Which of the following people might regard silence as a call for careful thought?AThe Chinese. BThe French.CThe Mexicans. DThe Russians.6What does the author advise nurses to do about silence?ALet it continue as the patient pleases.BBreak it while treating patients.CEvaluate its harm to patients.DMake use of its healing effects.7What may be the best title for the text?ASound and SilenceBWhat It Means to Be SilentCSilence to Native AmericansDSpeech Is Silver;Silence Is Gold【语篇导读】本文是一篇说明文。 The meaning of silence varies among cultural groups. 5解析:选A。 Many Native Americans value silence and feel it is a basic part of communicating among people, just as some traditional Chinese and Thai persons do.以及.silence is a call for reflection. Russian,French, and Spanish persons may use silence to show agreement . Mexicans may use silence when instructions are given by a person in authority . A nurse who understands the healing(治愈) value of silence can use this understanding to assist in the care of patients from their own and from other cultures. 根据最后一段中的.a patients silence is not interrupted too early or allowed to go on unnecessarily. CWelcome to the Electronic Village to explore new ways of language teaching and learning.Electronic Village Program(Thursday,June 18,2015)Nearpod9:00 am to 10:00 amRoom 501Nearpod is a software program that creates a rich context (语境) for students to learn vocabulary. This field of study has been, all at once, the hardest and most rewarding of my life. I would put it above the study of writing simply because I started writing as a 6yearold boy under my mothers guidance. I always “felt” I could write. I did not always “feel” I could effectively study a foreign language. But here I am, right now, in a Montreal hotel. I mishear words. I confuse tenses. I cant really use the subjunctive. Yet.Something has happened to me and the something is thisI have gotten better. I dont know when I first felt it. I didnt feel it this summer at Middlebury, despite the difference in my entrance and exit scores. I didnt feel it when I first arrived in Paris in January. I felt, as I always feel, like I was stumbling around in the dark. I still feel like that. But I also feel like I am getting better at stumbling.I am emphasizing how I “feel” because, when studying, it is as important as any objective reality. Hopelessness feeds the fatigue that leads the student to quit. It is not the study of language that is hard, so much as the “feeling” that your present level is who you are and who you will always be. I remember returning from France at the end of the summer of 2013, and being convinced that I had some kind of brain injury which prevented me from hearing French vowel sounds. But the real enemy was not any injury so much as the “feeling” of despair. That is why I ignore all the research about children and their language advantage. I dont want to hear it. I just dont care. As CarolynForch would say“Im going to have it.”To “have it”, I must manage my emotional health. Part of that longterm managementbeyond Frenchis giving myself an opportunity to get better at difficult things. There is absolutely nothing in this world like the feeling of sucking at something and then improving at it.12The first paragraph implies that the writer _.Ais awarded for learning FrenchBis confident in his writing in FrenchChas a poor gift for language skillsDsuffers in learning French for three years13We can infer from the third paragraph that _.Athe writer often lost his way in ParisBthe writer came to Paris to learn FrenchC. the writer had no trouble speaking FrenchDthe writer improved his French unconsciously14According to the writer, in learning foreign languages _.Athe feeling of hope is very importantBthe advantage lies in the learners agesCthe real enemy is your brain injuryDthe fatigue leads to the difficulty to read vowels15What might be the most suitable title for the passage?ATake Pleasure in Learning a Foreign LanguageBEnjoy the Strong Feeling of Speaking FrenchCSavor the Temporary Feelings of GreatnessDAppreciate the High Feelings of Traveling in France【语篇导读】本文介绍了作者学习法语的经历。 14解析:选A。 15解析:选A。 .七选五Life is not easy for teenagers. The various sufferings they face can make their lives confusing and difficult. Few people escape the negative effects of peer(同龄人) pressure at some point in life._1_Equipping teens to face peer pressure will help ensure their safety as they progress toward adulthood.2_Peer pressure is something that every adult has experienced, which means you can help younger people in dealing with the effects of peer pressure. Use resources such as a video of a celebrity or sports hero talking about peer pressure or relating a personal experience and explaining how best to handle this type of situation.3_Whether he is learning how to play the guitar or practice sailing, the more a teen understands that he is unique, the less he will go along with someone elses ideas of who he should be.Talk to teens about the risks associated with engaging in risky behavior. Teens are often naive(天真的)and likely to be influenced by others._4_More importantly, teens are not always aware of the motivations of others. Guide teens in learning how to judge risky situations and act accordingly in their own best interests.Practice peer pressure situations at home or in the classroom._5_F
