Classroom Teaching Design for Writing(Unit 3 NSEFC Book 8)Target task: Writing a letter of application.Time: 40 minutes or more, with extended language work and homework.Students: Senior 2 students in high school aged 16-17, active and imaginative, have the motivation to communicate in English but still need some guidance on expressing themselves in English and on how to recommend themselves in an application letter.Teaching materials:a) A sample application letter in reply to a job ad.b) Jumbled letter.c) Writing practice.Aims: a) To teach students to write a letter of application. b) To encourage the use of phrases and words which express personalities. c) To learn the layout of formal letter. d) To familiarize the students with the application procedure to apply for a job.Target language: a) Phrases which are meant for self-recommendation.b) Polite expressions used to make requests to the job advertiser.c) Phrases used to set down your experience and personalities that show you are a suitable candidate for a post.Concepts applied in the design:a) Student-oriented approach.b) All the activities that focus on one target aim are designed in a task-cycle with an outcome.Teaching aids:Worksheets for the students, slide projector and a multimedia computerTeachers notes and lesson steps:Stage 1 Pre-writingHand out the job advertisement below.
