模块综合测评(一).阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)A“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”You probably heard those lines in grammar school, but do you really agree that harsh (严厉的) or negative words do not harm us?Words have power.Surely we all have had our feelings hurt by something someone said.We may not say words to hurt others, but the way we interpret(解释) them and how we say them may cause great harm.Heres an example:An ancient king dreamed all his teeth had fallen out.He sent for a wise man to explain his dream to him: the dream means that all your relatives will die and you will be left alone! The king was very angry and threw the interpreter into prison. He then sent for another interpreter who said,“Congratulations! King! You will live many more years. In fact, you will survive all your relatives.Long Live the King!”Both interpreters gave the same interpretation, but there was a huge difference in the way they said it.Our speech must be understood by those who hear our words, but the way we say things and the intention behind them have as much power as the words themselves.Words can cause anger or appreciation.Which would you rather receive?People who say harsh and negative things may not mean to harm, but have you ever known anyone who is a naysayer? They often look at the dark sides of things. They always see the glass as half empty rather than half full. How do you feel when you are around this type of person? Remember: words have power. 1The underlined word “naysayer” in the last paragraph refers to a person who always_Ahas a negative attitudeBlikes to be praisedCtalks bigDlikes to repeat what others say【解析】词义猜测题。根据后面一句“They often look at the dark sides of things.”可知,这种人总是看到事物的黑暗面,故选A。【答案】A2According to the text, how can people understand each other better?ABy sharing different life experiences.BBy accepting different habits.CBy properly using words.DBy recognizing different values.【解析】细节理解题。根据最后一段“Remember:words have power.Use them wisely.”可知,作者认为语言蕴含力量,我们应该谨慎、合理地使用语言,故选C。【答案】C3The author wrote the last paragraph to_A. show how the dark sides of things affect peopleBadvise people to see and say things positivelyCshow how harsh and negative words hurt peopleDadvise people to stay away from negative people【解析】写作意图题。根据最后一段“People who say harsh and negative things may not mean to harm, but have you ever known anyone who is a naysayer? You will be able to buy a supercomputer that fits in your pocket! You might even drive a flying car!Not all past predictions have been proven wrong.A few of them have been surprisingly accurate. Some great thinkers predicted the arrival of the credit card, the fax machine and even the Internet years before they happened. But for each prediction that has come true, some others have missed by a mile. Many of these predictions didnt consider how people would want to use the technology,or if people really needed it in their lives or not.Lets look at some predictions from the nottoodistant past.Robot HelpersWheres the robot in my kitchen? Nowhere,of course. And hes probably not coming anytime soon.Robots do exist today, but mostly in factories and other working environments.Back in the 1950s,however,people said that by now personal robots would be in most peoples homes. So why hasnt it happened? Maybe because robots are still too expensive and clumsy. And probably the idea of robots cooking our dinners and washing our clothes is just too strange. At home we seem to be doing fine without them.Telephones of tomorrowIn 1964 an American company introduced the video telephone. They said by the year 2000 most people would have a video phone in their homes. But of course the idea hasnt caught on yet. Why? The technology worked fine, but it overlooked something obvious: people desire for privacy.Would you want to have a video phone conversation with someone after you just stepped out of the shower? Probably notit could be uncomfortable! Just because technology doesnt always mean people will want to use it.And finally, how about that crazy prediction of the flying car?Its not so crazy any more! But a flying car remains one of the most wonderful technology ideas to catch our imagination.Keep watching the news or perhaps the sky outside your window to see what the future will bring.【语篇解读】本文记叙了关于那些还未实现的科学预测。5The passage mainly deals with_Apredictions that can catch our imaginationBpredictions that havent come trueCnew technology can benefit our lifeDpredictions that have come true【解析】主旨大意题。第二段中“But for each prediction that has come true, some others have missed by a mile.”以及下文对各个未实现的预测的描述可知选B。【答案】B6According to the passage, which of the following statements is NOT true?A. the shore gently. My father realised it was a good day for fishing and invited my sister and me to go with him.I was only 14 and fishing had never been my thing, but I decided to go all the same.Im so glad I did.On the road to the harbour we could see the terrible destruction on the coast, but the harbour itself was in fairly good shape. After all,it was protected by the arms of a bay that had only one tiny channel to the sea.As we got on board,we noticed two big humps(脊背) in the distance. On approaching them,we saw it was a mother whale with her baby.We couldnt believe itthere arent any whales along the coast here. The storm must have driven them across the ocean into the bay,in which the still water was so badly polluted that nothing could survive. The little baby whaleactually as big as our boatwas obviously stuck and could not move. The mother dived under the water and came up suddenly, making big whirlpools(漩涡) and waves.“Shes trying to help her baby, but on the wrong side,” my father said.At this point,my father moved our boat in a semicircle to the other side and, heading the boat towards the baby whale, pushed it gently. With our several gentle pushes the big hump turned over and disappeared under water. Then it swam up right beside its mum. They struggled in their desperate attempts to escape but missed the exit and started heading in the wrong direction. We hurried up to the whales and tried to lead them towards the bay channel.Slowly, they let us lead them, sometimes rising from the water right beside us to breatheand to give us a trusting look with those huge eyes.Once they hit their first part of clean water flowing straight from the sea,the mum gave us a wave with her tail and off they swam into the distance. In the excitement it had felt like only a few minutes, but we had been with those wonderful animals for almost an hour and a half. That was the simple and lasting beauty of the day, nearly four decades later,I still look back fondly to that golden day at sea.【语篇解读】本文主要讲述了我和父亲出海救了两头鲸鱼的故事,这给我带来了很多的快乐。帮助别人是世界上最快乐的事情。12The author says “Im so glad I did.”(in Para.2)because_Abe witnessed the whole process of fishingBhe enjoyed the beauty of the calm
