Module 1 Europe (建议用时:30分钟) 阅读理解A(2019广东七校联合体高三第一次联考)These days, I walk down the steps leading toward the south end of the All England Club in Wimbledon, and still look for the Crows Nest, a small green observation tower with an outer ladder that I used to climb on for a wide view of the grounds, but it has since been knocked down. The Crows Nest was a particularly useful point, because it allowed a tennis writer to keep track of the action on as many as 10 outside courts at a time. At the end of the days, reporters from different nations would share notes on what they had observed all over the grounds.Twentyseven years later, the press room has touch screens that allow us to watch live videos from any court, and even go back to watch key moments in key matches long after they have finished. You could cover Wimbledon without leaving your seat. But that is a bit like spending all your time ordering room service and looking up fun facts on Wikipedia.More than at any other tennis tournament, there is also an appetite for stories that deal with the setting, the history and the traditions. If they change the price of the fish tacos(鱼肉卷饼) at the United States Open, its not a story. If they change the price of the strawberries and cream, the signature treat at Wimbledon, its time to email your editor using capital letters. The new retractable(可缩进的) roof was put in place in 2009. Until then, you always had to have a rainyday story in your notebook because there were no guarantees any matches would be played. Now tennis is a sure thing on Centre Court, which has made tennis reporters a bit less creative. But at least it guarantees us daily access to the most atmospheric place in the sport. So much has changed, but Centre Court remains true to its original spirit: more a theater than a stadium. Catching that feeling is part of covering Wimbledon, too.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。 1What did the author do on the Crows Nest in the past?AHe made friends with reporters.BHe reported on tennis matches.CHe appreciated the beautiful scenery.DHe exchanged experiences with tennis players.B解析:推理判断题。 2What does the author think of the new way of covering Wimbledon?AIt lacks fun.BIt is expensive.CIt is not convenient.DIt is not quick enough.A解析:推理判断题。 3Why does the author mention strawberries and cream?ATo compare popular foods.BTo introduce the typical treat at Wimbledon.CTo describe peoples craze for traditional dishes.DTo show the traditions of Wimbledon are an attraction.D解析:推理判断题。 4What difference does the new roof make?AAudiences have easier access to a tennis court.BTheres less fun in watching Wimbledon indoors.CReporters are struggling to find original material.DRainyday stories about Wimbledon have become history.D解析:细节理解题。 B(2019江西赣中南五校联考)In 2014 my best friends mother died of cancer. It was a tragedy, but as usual, Alice, my mother, used her power of healing and got his family back on their feet.If you asked my friends about my mother, they would say, “That woman has a heart of gold.” I agree one hundred percent.I think the reason why she is such a wonderful person is that the Holy Spirit lives within her.She is very holy and has persuaded me to go to church with her every Sunday.About six years ago my mom decided to pursue her lifelong goal of becoming a teacher. She knew it would be hard work raising three kids, doing housework and studying at the same time. However, she believed it would pay off. What my mother didnt realize was that not all things pay off in this unfair world. After four hard years of school, she graduated on a warm spring day.It was unbelievable. My aunt drove up from Virginia to celebrate this fantastic day.It was the first time I had ever cried about being happy. Its strange how fast a life can change. Two months later, the unpredictable happened. My mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis(多发性硬化症)I could not believe this could happen after all the good she had done for people. I was very confused and cried every day.My faith in God just disappeared and so did my moms dream of becoming a teacher. Then, I decided I must move on with my life and accept the fact that she might never get better. Since my decision, I have become more mature, responsible and active in school and work. Through the years I have always been able to change negative situations into positive ones.
