1 / 3 全国英语演讲比赛优秀演讲稿 a scene to remember gu qiubei shanghai international studies university advisor: gong longsheng good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. todayi would like to begin w ith a stor y. there was once a physical therapist( 临床医学家 ) who traveled all the wa y from ame rica to af rica to do a census( 调查 ) about mountain g orillas( 大 猩 猩猩 ). these gorillas a re a main attraction to touris ts from alll over the world; th is put the m severely under thr eat of poa ching(偷猎 ) and being put into t he zoo. sh e went the re out of curiosity, but what she saw st rengthenedd her deter mination t o devote h er whole l ife to fig hting for those beau tiful crea tures. she witnessed a scene, a scene ta king us to a place w e never im aged weve ever been , where in the very depth of t he african rainfores t, surroun ded by tre es, flower s and butt erflies, t he mother gorillas c uddled(拥抱 ) their bab ies. yes, thats a memorable scene in o ne of my f avorite mo vies, call ed gorilla s in the m ist, based on a true story of mrs. dian fossey, wh o spent mo st of bet lifetime i n rwanda t o protect the eco-en vironment there unti l the 2 / 3 very end of he r life. t o me, the movie not only prese nts an unf orgettable scene but also acts as a time less(永恒的 ) reminder t hat we sho uld not de velop the tourist in dustry at the cost o f our eco- environmen t. today, we live i n a world of prosper ity but st ill threat ened by so many new problems. on the one hand, tou rism, as o ne of the most promi sing indus tries in t he 21st ce ntury, pro vides peop le with th e great op portunity to see eve rything th ere is to see and to go any pl ace there is to go. it has bec ome a life style for some peopl e, and has turned ou t to be thhe driving force in g dp growth. it has th e magic to turn a ba ckward tow n into a w onderland of prosper ity. but o n the othe r hand, ma ny problem s can occuur-naturaal scenes a rent natu ral anymor e. defores tation to heat lodge s is devas tating nep al. oil sp ills from tourist bo ats are po lluting an tarctica. tribal peo ple are fo rsaking th eir native music and dress to listen to u2 on walk man and we ar nike an d reeboks. all thesse appallinng(令人震惊的 ) f acts have brought us to the re alization that we ca n no longe r stand by and do no thing, bec ause the v ery though t of it ha s been 3 / 3 ero ding( 侵蚀 ) o ur resourc es. encour agingly, tthe explosi ve growth of global travel has put touri sm again i n the spot light, whi ch is why the unitedd nations h as made 20 02 the yea r of ecoto urism, for the first time to b ring to th e worlds attention the benefi ts of tour ism, but a lso its ca pacity to destroy ou r eco-envi ronment. now every year, many local eco environmen tal protec tion organ izations a n: receivi ng donatioons-big no tes, small notes or even coins -from hou sewives, p lumbers(水 管管工人 ), ambul ance drive rs, salesm en, teache rs, childr en and inv alids(残疾人 )
