The problem is that it is damaging the environment. Trash Island lies between Hawaii and Japan, but doesnt mean that the trash only comes from those two places. It can come from Asia, the United States and Canada. About 75% of the trash comes from sources on land, while the other 25% comes from ships at sea. Tons of plastic produced yearly throughout the world ends up in the ocean, forming the Trash Island. Since the plastic has been beaten by the waves, much of it has been broken down into small pieces. Millions of nurdles (塑料颗粒) are spilled into the ocean every year, which make up about 10% of all the plastic pieces in the sea. Nurdles are beansized pieces of plastic. These nurdles floating in the ocean are poisonous. When they break down, chemicals that are not found in nature come into the ocean. These become deadly to ocean life. Thousands of ocean animals die every year because of the trash. Many ocean animals eat pieces of plastic trash and die. Others eat things like small plastic toys. Birds and fish often mistake the brightly colored nurdles for fish eggs. You can help by cutting back on the amount of plastic you use in your home and in your business. Pick up trash when you see it lying around and with it properly. Recycle as much plastic as possible. Help clean up beaches, rivers and streams. 1What do we know about nurdles according to the passage?AThey give off some poisonous gases into the ocean.BThey are plastic products such as plastic toys or bottles.CThey make up about half of the ocean plastic pieces.DThey are harmful to the growth and development of ocean life.2Which of the following is TRUE? BSociety. CCulture. DEnvironment. 根据空格线后的“then we could instantly become .” 故填were。 这里its指代the animals。 7解析:as/when/while考查连词。 be capable of doing sth. 由下文中的“Ill be staying with friends.” 6解析:will be swimming考查时态。由“in a few days”可知,此处应用将来时;且根据后面的并列结构“and lying. and just taking.” 此处it指代and前提到的vacation。.1.
