OnOctober5th,20xx,ChinafinallyhaditsfirstNobelPrizeinnaturalscience.Ms.TuYouyousworkandherreceivingthemostprestigiousscienceawardmadeusproud.WerelivinginanerainwhichChinaisbuildingsomeofthebestresearchprojectsandinstitutionsworldwide.Justamonthago,ProfessorZhangMimanwontheUNESCOforWomeninScienceAward,makingherthefifthChineserecipientofthishonor.Aweekafterthat,TheEconomistreferredtoChinaas“acontinent-sizedrapidlygrowingeconomywithacultureofscientificinquiry”.PhysicistandvicepresidentoftheChineseAcademyofScience,Dr.ZhangJiestated,“Chinanowhasthemostaurate,sufficientandlargestamountofdata;Chinahasthehighest,fastestandbestabilityofdataanalysis.TheChinesegovernmentwillbestronglypushingforthesharingandutilizationofdataresources.”Weasacountrysaywereready. Scienceisanimmortaltopicofmankind.Weveethisfarbecausewevelearnedtoworktogetherandlettheideasevolve.Thedisputeoverthepletenessofquantummechanics,forexample,wasresolvedinthe5thSolvayconference,attendedby29physicistsfrom10differentcountrieswhohavewon15NobelPrizesbined.Thatwasalmost100yearsago.Nowwerelivinginanerainwhichinformationistransmittedatthespeedoflight,inwhich“Internationalcooperation”isnotjustaslogananymore,especiallytothescientificmunity.ChineseAcademyofSciencenowhas47partnersoverseas.TheInternationalCouncilforSciencenowincludes122nationalmembers,23scientificassociatesand31scientificunions.ThefacilitiesoftheEuropeanOrganizationforNuclearResearch,orCERN,areavailabletoover600universitiesandinstitutesaroundtheglobe.We,theworld,aremorethanready. Fromstrangeness,misunderstandingtocrossculturalresonance,ittakesthreegenerations.Thedrivingforcebehindthechangeisglobalization,whichoffersopportunitiesforculturestomeet,tobreakdownbarriersbetweencountries,andtobringpeoplestogether.WhentheChinesefolksongplayedbyanAmericanstreetsingergotmethroughcoldnessandfear,Ialsocametorealizethatintimateconnectionbroughtaboutbyglobalizationandalsocrossculturalresonancecanalsohelptheworldgetthroughdifficultiesanddisputes.
