Reading: Come and Eat HereNO.3 Middle School Liu ShuminGood afternoon,everyone! Thank you for coming here ! I hope you will enjoy my speech. My topic is the reading passage Come and Eat Here, which is in unit 2 Module 3. I divide my speech into four parts : my understanding of this lesson(教材分析);teaching theories, methods and aids(教学思路);teaching procedures(教学过程) and blackboard design(板书设计).I. Now lets start with part 1. My understanding of this lesson:1. At first Id like to introduce the analysis of the teaching material. This lesson is a reading passage , which introduces two unbalanced diets through the story of Wangpeng and Yonghui. .It plays a very important part in the English teaching of this unit, because we should lay particular emphasis on the students reading ability. It focuses on the students abilities to gather information; deal with information; solve problems and the abilities to think and express in English. According to my understanding ,I design such teaching process as leading in ,prediction ,fast reading ,careful reading ,retelling ,discussion ,summary and homework so as to help students to master reading strategies(阅读策略) and reading skills(阅读技巧) ,improve students reading comprehension abilities and oral and written expression abilities. 2. Now Ill talk about my teaching aims (教学目标)of this periodThe knowledge aims(知识目标) of this period are to enable the students to master some useful words and expressions and by the end of the lesson, the students will have a better understanding of the meaning and structure of the text.The ability aims(技能目标) are to improve students abilities to predict the content of the text and obtain main information by using reading strategies. Meanwhile ,improving students abilities of speaking and writing by discussion and retelling is also important.For emotional aims(情感目标)and cultural sense(文化意识) Ill stimulate the students sense to form a healthy eating habit and develop the students sense of cooperative learning(合作意识).3. In my opinion the important teaching points (教学重点)in this period is to enable students to realize the effect of balanced diet on health and how to improve the students reading ability.:The difficult teaching points(教学难点) for the students are how to understand the text better and how to use the learned phrases and sentences to retell the text.II. Now lets focus on the second part about my teaching theories, methods and aids教学原理,教学方法与教学用具):Before the lesson, we should keep in mind something about students. In my class some students have known something about the topic, because they have talked about it in the previous period -warming up and speaking. But some long sentences are difficult for them to understand. They dont often use English to express themselves and communicate with others. Some students are not active in the class because they are afraid of making mistakes. So during the lesson, I arrange a variety of activities to let all of them join in to attract their interest and let them be confident and taste the joy of success. When I deal with this lesson, Ill do my best to carry out the theories of the new curriculum, such as task-based teaching and learning任务型教学法); cooperative learning(合作学习法) and interactive approach(互动教学法); make the students the real masters in class while I, the teacher acts as director;combine the language structures with the language functions and let the students receive some moral education while they are learning the English language.And I will adopt fast reading to get a general idea of the text and careful reading to get the detailed information; pair or group work to get every student to be active in class; question-and-answer activity teaching method and free discussion method to make the students smooth away the difficulties, and retelling to sum up the whole period.As for the teaching aids(教学用具),Ill make full use of multi-media to make the class more lively and interesting. With the help of the computer and courseware, I think the efficiency of the class will be greatly improved.III. Here comes the most important part, the teaching procedures:I have designed the following steps to train the students ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing, especially reading ability.Step1.Revision(2m) As it is the second period of this unit, Ill first check the students homework and then get a student to tell the class what a healthy diet contains. Thus I can offer a chance for the students to review the content in the first period. Step2.Lead-in (2m)I will lead in the topic of the unit by showing the students a short film about healthy eating, in which a fat man and a thin man are eating different kind of diet, and they are both unhealthy. And then discuss the following questions to lead in the topic: What kind of food does each man like?Are they healthy? Why? Through this activity I can arouse the students interest of study and bring in new subject.Step3.Prediction for reading(3m)Ill get the students to look at the title and the pictures and guess what the text might be about by asking some questions,such as, Where can it happen? restaurant Who will be there ? customers What food can be served there? energy-giving food? Body-building-food? or protective food? What is the business sense of the boss? .It draws the students attention to the content of the text.Step4. Fast reading(3m)Ask the students to skim the passage quickly and get the main idea and the structure of text. Guide the students to find out key words and sentences to get the main idea and the structure of the text. By doing this, I will train the students for fast reading skills to improve the students reading ability and let the students understand the general idea of the whole passage。. At the same time,doing so can prove students prediction during the course of pre-reading and prepare for the next activity。Step5. Intensive reading(15m)Allow students enough time to read the passage carefully to understand the main idea of each paragraph and some important details。During this step, I design three tasks:Task 1。Ask students to decide some statements true or false。Task2。 Ask students to choose the best one from the four choices。Task3。 Divide the passage into 3 parts and ask students to give the main idea of each paragraph。They are designed from the easiest one to the most difficult one for different levels Ss. The purpose is to train the students skills of scanning and to lead the students to find out the important facts and detailed information. Ill ask the students to finish the exercises by cooperation and competitions(合作与竞争). They can first help each other understand the text and smooth away the difficulties. Then Ill divide the Ss into 4 groups. If a student can answer the question correctly, then his/ her group can get one point. And the group which gets the most points is the winner. Only through cooperation can the Ss taste the joy of success. If the Ss know their answer is right, hell be confident and theyll surely become more enthusiastic in learning English. The purpose is to improve the students reading comprehension. And at the same time the students can enjoy the happiness of helping each other. Thus the students receive some moral education.Step 6.Discussion:(5m)For the students to understand the passage better, I will get the students to have a discussion in groups about the questions:1. What are the weakness and strength of the diet in Wang Pengs and Yong Huis restaurant?2. What do you think Wang Peng will provide to win his customers back?3How do you think the story will end?(During this course,Ill let students have enough time to read the passage carefully and discuss the questions with their partners. Encourage them to expand their answers according to their own experiences.). These questions are based on the understanding of the passage and it can get the student to imagine the end of the story. They are open-ended questions, so the student can provide various answers. By doing so, I guide the students to activate their language that they have learned. Then invite some group members to report their work to the whole class to make them overcome their shyness and stimulate them to speak in public. Step7.Explanation(5m)Ask students to do Ex.2 alone and encourage them to guess the meaning of the new words and sentences through the word-formation and context. Then let them discuss their answer in groups of two。Finally,help students to analyse some difficult, long and complex sentences 。Step8.Retelling the text(3m) Since the students in the class are in different levels, first I will let them to retell the story by filling in the blanks. And then Ill ask the students to retell the story in their own wordsStep8. Homework (1m)1 copy the useful phrases and sentences they like in their notebook and retell the passage and write it down in their own words.2DESIGN A healthy diet and list your reasons。3Fill in the blank to evaluate yourself。IV. Part 4. Blackboard designAt last, let me show you my blackboard design: The title is in the middle. Below it are the main ideas of each paragraph ,on the left of it are some language points mentioned in this period and on the right is the result of the competition,The Blackboard Design is to let the Ss have a clear idea to get the main content of this period, and it should be clear and artful. In this lesson, I lead the students understand the passage step by step, and help them to retell the text. In the whole period I just act as a director(导演), giving the students some detailed task and letting the students explore the knowledge by themselves or in teamwork.
