Tours and Visits.BA few days ago I was sitting in a Thai restaurant enjoying a meal when I got a phone call from a friend I hadnt spoken to for a long time. Full of enthusiasm and excitement I talked slightly louder than usual and in Spanish, my mother tongue.A few minutes into the call the lady sitting beside me got up, seemingly upset, and asked the restaurant staff to relocate her to a table as far away as possible from “this man who wont get off his phone”I sank in my seat out of embarrassment. I ended the call soon afterwards and felt the urge to go over and apologize. Before getting up I looked around to see where she was and I found she was, indeed, at the table furthest away from me. I noticed that the lady was alone and staring out of the window, looking a bit sad. Right then I quit my plan for a conventional apologetic gesture and decided to conduct an experiment. Seeing those funny smile cards in my wallet, I took one out. When signing my check I asked the waiter to secretly charge the ladys meal to my credit card instead of her bill.I left the restaurant, letting the waiter know I would be back in a few hours to pick up my credit card. I returned later as promised, excited to learn the result. To my pleasant surprise, things turned out the best possible way. A group of restaurant staff approached me with joy, telling me that the lady had dined there many times, but they had never seen her smile and laugh like she did upon receiving the smile card and the $0 check.24. Why did the lady ask the restaurant staff to relocate her?A. She didnt understand Spanish.B. She preferred to stay on her own.C. She wanted to sit beside the window. D. She felt bothered by the authors phone call.25.What did the author want to do first after he ended his phone call?A. Apologize to the lady. B. Pay for the ladys meal.C. Conduct an experiment. D. Give the lady a smile card.26. According to the text, the lady_.A. was unfriendly to others B. was too poor to afford a mealC. was not happy deep in her heart D. was particular about where she sat27. What is the best title fir the text?AA poor lonely lady BA smile card apology CAn improper phone call DAn unpleasant experienceCSpeaking many languages fluently is generally considered cool yet difficult to achieve, especially if second, third and fourth languages are acquired later in life. As an advocate of language learning, I of course agree that its cool, but I challenge the assumption that its difficult. My name is Luca Lampariello. Aged 35, I speak 11 languages fluently. For learning a language, motivation is fundamental. Heaps of books and hours of study are nowhere near enough. Its about travelling to remarkable places, meeting inspiring people, enjoying delicious food and starting many journeys of self-discovery. I find my motivation to learn more languages from these experiences, the experiences that these languages make possible.I still remember that English was already a world language by the time I turned 10 in 1991. Its study was pulsory. I struggled at first. I didnt like the teacher, grammar explanations confused me, and the material was dull. I thought Id never learn it. Then my parents decided to hire a private English tutor. I was 13 and she was wonderful. She didnt simply instruct me in the language, but helped me discover it-she set me on the right path to learning and, most importantly, learning to love the language.I started reading s lot of books in English. My aunt bought the The Hardy Boys for my birthday and after that there was no looking back. The bination of reading books, watching movies every day and talking to my tutor once a week for two years worked wonders. By the age of 15, I was fluent in English and in possession of a thick American accent.28. What can be inferred from Paragraph 1?A. To challenge the assumption is difficult. B. To learn different languages is not that difficult.C. Its difficult to acquire four languages later in life. D. Its necessary to advocate people to learn languages.29. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 2 refer to?A. Speaking languages fluently. B. Learning a language.C. Reading many books. D. Studying for hours.30. Why does the author suggest travelling to many places?A. To enjoy delicious food.B. To enjoy beautiful scenery.C. To meet various kinds of people.D. To find motivation for language learning.31. What can we learn from the authors experience of learning English?A. Having a private English tutor is important.B. An English teacher shouldnt explain grammar.C. Leading learners to the right learning path matters most.D. Its difficult for English learners to choose learning material.DIn todays American, if you spend much time with educators and policy makers, youll hear a lot of the following words: “standards” “results” “skills” “self-control” and so on. A look at what goes on in most classrooms these days makes it clear that when people think about education, they are not thinking about what it fells like to be a child, or what makes childhood an important stage of life in its own right. The thing that set children apart from adults is not their ignorance, nor their lack of skills. Its their ability for joy. Being educated should not require giving up joy but rather lead to finding joy in kinds of things; reading novels instead of playing with small figures, conducting experiments instead of sinking cups in the bathtub, for example. In some cases, schools should help children find new, more grown-up ways of doing the same things that keep them joyful; making art, making friends, making decisions, etc. However, many of the assignments and rules schools e up with treat pleasure and joy as the enemies of petence and responsibility. Children should learn to delay pleasure and joy so that they can pursue abstract goals, like going to college. Not only is this a boring and awful way to treat children, but it cant be forced to think carefully, enjoy books, or digest plex information.Building on a childs ability to feel joy, rather than pushing it aside, would require a shift in the education worlds mindset(思维模式). instead of trying to get children to work hard, why not focus on getting them to take pleasure in meaningful, productive activities, like working with others, exploring ideas, and solving problems? These focuses are not different from the things in which they delight.Joy should not be trained out of school or left for after-school programs. It doesnt run counter to the goals of public education. It is, in fact, the primary condition.32. Many of the assignments and rules of schools are considered_.A. too abstract for children to understand. B. reasonable to achieve educational goalsC. to set studying against pleasure D. To focus on childrens joy33. Which of the following is true according to the passage?A. Educators are thinking about school education in a proper way.B. The ability to feel joy often differs from the petence to study.C. Having children work requires changing educators mindset.D. Education should help children find joy in more grown-up ways. 34. The underlined expression “run counter to” in the last paragraph probably means_.A. keep back B. go against C. make for D. approve of35. The author of the passage intends to _.A. discuss where education leads B. indicate joy is what schools lack C. question childrens ability to feel joy D. prove activity creates responsibility第二节 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Parents are always told to control the amount of time their children spend using phones. 36 Researchers studied 55 parents, while they were eating in a fast restaurant with their children. They found that one in three parents used their phones during the meals. Parents, who were busy with their phones, seemed to have more negative munication with their children. 37 They studied five different acts from parents who didnt use their phones at all during the meals, parents who put their phones on the table but didnt use them, parents who used their phones now and then, parents who used their phones at the end of the meals, and those who used their phones during the whole time of the meals. 38 More than 15 percent used their phones towards the end of the meals while the children were still eating, and continued using them until they left the restaurant. Its reported that young children use eye contact with their parents to form a good relationship and learn about the world. 39 When parents spent a long time looking at their phones, their children would be upset. Reducing this face-to-face contact could cause problems with further development and reduce the level of relationship between a parent and a child. This is the first study to examine how children behave when their parents are using their phones. 40 More work needs to be done to find out how to improve the relationship between parents and children. A. The researchers think it is just the beginning.B. But their own habit of using phones could be bad, too.C. It is necessary for parents to spend time acpanying them.D. Almost 73 percent of the adults used their phones at least once during the meals.E. Dr. Radesky and her team observed parents behavior to see them in a “real-life setting”.F. Little eye contact and munication can reduce the close relationship with the children.G. So the more eye contact their parents use, the more chances the children have to succeed.第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,每题1.5分,满分45分)第一节 完形填空(共20题,每题1.5分,共30分)阅读下面短文,从各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。A storm was ing, but Alex was too busy fixing her leg bandage to notice it.
