Creator of the universe:Cultural background: Gods Story (Tell this part in brief and give the students the print of this part)Here is a simplified version of the message found in the Old and New Testaments. God is the Creator of the universe. Everything is the result of Gods creative power. Human beings are created in the image of God. Creation is good! From the beginning, the human race which God created and endowed with such high capacities and freedom proved to be a disappointment to the Maker. Human beings ignored God and chose to be the master of their own destinies. Rebellion and sinfulness were the results of their disobedience. The Creator repeatedly warned humankind to no avail. Almost the whole human race was destroyed by flood except for a little remnant of Noahs family. Even this family became enmeshed in sin. God chose Abraham, an imperfect man, as a new beginning for the human race. Through this man and his family God would make a great nation and through this people all the families of the earth could be blessed. Abraham would follow the Creators plan and be an instrument to accomplish the great purpose of God. The descendants of Abraham, the nation of Israel, were a people who at times honored and obeyed the ways of God and at other times were selfish and disobedient. God was working through this nation so that all the peoples of the earth would know His name. The Old Testament is a record of the Kings, Judges, Prophets and key people in the tumultuous history of the Jews, Gods Chosen People. The nation of Israel was not chosen because God loved them more than others. They were chosen because Gods great love for the whole world. Due to her disobedience, Israel suffered the consequences of her sins by being defeated by other nations. The Chosen People fell into decay and were of little use in Gods plan for this world. Throughout the ups and downs of Jewish history, the nation was informed by her prophets that there would come a day when God would do something new and great. There would be a Savior to lead all people into Gods plan to be blessed and to be a blessing to the world. Jesus of Nazareth came into the world as Savior, Emmanuel God with us. He begins His message of Good News by reminding the nation of Israel of Gods plan. He chose a small number of disciples and taught them Gods eternal truths. This group, the Church the new Chosen People, was in keeping with Gods plan for all to know and be blessed by Him. Because Jesus dared to rebuke Jewish prejudice, arrogance and nationalism, He was rejected by most of His own people. Jewish leaders feared Jesus and sought how they might destroy Him. He declared that God took no pleasure in their racial exclusiveness, but loved men of all races. Jesus stepped across lines of race, nationality and custom by reaching out to all people, even the outcasts and unclean of His society. He healed the sick, raised the dead, and performed miracles, claimed equality with God - shining Light and Truth and Love on everyone. Those who refused His message accused Him of blasphemy, insurrection and breaking their religious traditions. Mob violence fueled by misguided patriotism, racial prejudice and religious bigotry led Jesus to a guilty death sentence. Jesus suffered a brutal death on a cross. After three days Jesus arose from the grave. His teachings, way of life, suffering, death and resurrection together displayed the powerful love of God. True Christians throughout the ages and of the world today participate with God as the new “Chosen People” obeying and honoring the Savior, receiving His blessings and seeking to be a blessing to the world. 10. go on with: to continue an activity, especially after a pause or break, e.g. We will go on with the meeting after a 10-minute break.
