It wasnt invented in the United States, and it didnt originate in Germany. No, the worlds first hamburger comes from China. If youre scratching your head right now, youre not alone. But Chinese hamburgers are very real and they definitely predate the hamburgers we call our own in the U.S. Known as rou jia mo, which translates to meat burger or meat sandwich, they consist of chopped meat inside a pita-like bun, and theyve been around since the Qin Dynasty, from about 221 BC to 207 BC. Despite the differences between this Chinese street food and our American-style burgers, the rou jia mo has been called the worlds first hamburger. The rou jia mo originated in the Shanxi Province of China, and is now eaten all over the country. Its typically prepared and eaten on the street. The dough(生面团) for the bun, or mo, consists of a simple mixture of wheat flour, water and maybe yeast. Of course recipes(食谱) may vary, but this basic equation makes for a chewy and subtle pillow for the delicious filling. While the mo is traditionally baked in a clay(泥土) oven, today its often fried in a pan. They may look a little like Chinese steamed buns or baozi, but the dough for those are, of course, steamed, not baked or fried. The meat filling might consist of chopped pork, beef, lamb or chicken that has been stewed(用文火慢慢炖) with a variety of spices(调料), like ginger, cloves, coriander and star anise. You might also find herbs like cilantro or greens like lettuce garnishing the sandwich.9. What does the underlined word mean?A. noodle B. food C. beverage D. bread 10. Which of the following is not true?A. The mo people eat today is often fried in a pan.B. The worlds first hamburger which was originated in the Shanxi Province of China is popular around the world.C. The rou jia mo has a history of more than 2200 years.D. The rou jia mo has some differences from American-style burgers in cooking process.11. What would be the best title for the passage?A. Delicious hamburger B. Chinese invented hamburgerC. How to cook hamburger D. History of hamburgerDFrom July to October every year, about a quarter of the worlds blue whales feed in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. But the whales currently face a major threat in their favorite feeding area. Ships carrying cargo (货物)sail in the same area at the same time. All too often, the whales paths and the ships travel lines overlap (重叠),and a ship will hit a whale.According to a new study, these ship strikes have become a serious threat to the overall population of the worlds blue whales. Only about 10,000 of the creatures still exist worldwide. Blue whales are the largest known animals ever to live on Earth. Even so, if hit by a container ship, a blue whale will likely die from its injuries. In 2007 alone, large ships killed five blue whales in the waters off San Francisco and Los Angeles, California. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says that because there are so few whales already, losing three to five from the California whale population every year is a significant loss. “The estimated population of blue whales in this part of the Pacific is 2,500”, says Sean Hastings, a NOAA analyst. “So every whale counts toward this species moving off the endangered-species list.” Now, marine scientists must figure out how to protect the whales from the giant container ships. One very simple program is already under way in the Santa Barbara Channel, a waterway that separates mainland California from the nearby Channel Islands. The Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary has asked large container ships passing through the area to voluntarily slow down. Sailing slower will allow the ships crew (船员)more time to change course before hitting a whale.Several of the worlds largest shipping lines are set to participate in the new program. For every ship that passes through the Santa Barbara Channel at or below the reduced speed of 12 knots (海里 / 小时),the company that owns the ship will be paid $2,500.12. From Paragraph 1, we can know that_.A. the container ships may hit the blue whales frequentlyB. people intend to illegally hunt blue whales for moneyC. there is fewer fish in blue whales favorite feeding areaD. large ships often carrying goods may pollute the sea13. Why is the death of several whales regarded as significant loss to the worlds blue whales?A. Because other blue whales will be scared away.B. Because blue whales are the largest animals in the world.C. Because many blue whales get killed throughout the year.D. Because the number of the blue whales is so small.14. According to Sean Hastings, its inferred that .A. the number of the blue whales is decreasing sharply.B. the blue whales are still on the endangered-species list.C. most of the worlds blue whales live in the Pacific Ocean.D. blue whales are often disturbed by other endangered creatures.15. What are the last three paragraphs mainly about?A. The basic responsibility of a sailor. B. The worlds largest shipping lines.C. Ways to slow down the speed of the ships. D. Measures to protect the blue whales. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。How to Overcome Worry When we worry about an event that may not occur,we waste precious energy and time. There is a philosophy that if we worry about something it is actually more likely to happen;we attract the negative event through our negative thoughts. Worry never helps,it just leaves us without peace of mind._16_Here are a few steps that will help. 1Concentrate on the Present Worry means we are advancing into the future and speculating that the worst might happen. Worrying about the future is not helpful._17_Many religious texts tell us,“Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of itself.” 2Imagine How Good Things Can Occur If we concentrate on the negative,it is likely to create negative emotions and negative thoughts. If we worry, this in itself is a problem for us;it becomes a vicious cycle(恶性循环)If you find yourself often in a state of fear or worry, make a conscious effort to visualize the best outcome. Imagine yourself doing the best you can in the circumstances and then being detached(分开)from the result. The mind needs to be occupied._18_ 3_19_ Someone once told me this trick. When you realise how so many worries fail to materialise, you will find it easier to stop worrying in the first place.ADo Whatever You can and then RelaxBSo it is important to be able to overcome unnecessary worry. CWe are not responsible for what the world says.DPut Worries in a Box and Open Them LaterESo it is best to have it focused on something positive.FJust concentrate on the present and the task in hand.GIf you still have things to worry about, leave them for another week.第二部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)第一节完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。It was a winter morning.
