摘要 可译性问题从来都是翻译中一个具有争议性的问题。西方语言 学家通过对语言的本质进行分析提出了他们不同的看法，中国译者 则通过自身的体验道出了翻译的艰辛和可译性所具有的限度。同时 他们都对翻译作了很多形象的比喻，如“嚼饭与人”、“葡萄酒之被 水”、“美而不忠的女人”、“翻译者即叛逆者”。从这些比喻中我们 可以看出绝对的等值是不可能的，在翻译的过程中，意义必然有 所走失 翻译是一种双语转换活动，对翻译的研究与对语言、对意义的 研究紧密联系在一起。本文运用符号学的意义理论，对英汉翻译中 存在的意义流失现象进行全面的剖析，旨在了解造成这一现象的各 种原因，尽量减少翻译中的损失。 引言部分回顾了中西方对于可译性和意义流失问题的思考，指 出语言既具有共性又各有个性，语言的共性是我们进行翻译活动的 基础，而语言的个性则是造成可译性限度和意义损失的主要原因。 正文共分五章： 第一章介绍了哲学、语言学和符号学对意义的解释，从而得出 意义的本质是由符号和外部世界所构成的种种关系，它是一个复杂 的整体，具有疏略性、不确定性和流变性。意义的这些特性给读者 理解作品造成了障碍，同时也给翻译带来困难。 第二章通过对英汉语词汇的对比，分析了在翻译过程中所指意 义丧失的主要原因。 第三章具体论述了由于两种语言系统内书写、语音、语法和修 辞的障碍而造成的言内意义的丧失。文学语言的一大特点就是追求 语言形式的美，所以在翻译文学作品时不能忽略作者在创作时赋予 语言结构的意义。两种语言的这些差异引起的言内意义的损失给我 们的翻译和读者带来了不小的遗憾。 第四章主要把语言与语言使用者联系起来，讨论了加入使用者 t 观意识的各种语用意义及其所引起的翻译中的损失 7 这些语用意 义都包括在意义这个整体的丰富内涵之中，在翻译中捌 不可能面 i l i 面俱到，为了保留某些特定上下文中最突出的或最重要意义的优先 传达，往往会造成另一方面意义的丧失。意义的这些不同方面的丧 失会一定程度地引起风格意义的丧失。、， 第五章论证了译者的主观局限性对意义的传译形成的影响译 者是具体的、社会的人，他的行为、目的受到社会的限制，他的猢 识范围、理解能力受到时代的限制，他还有着个人的风格和喜好， 这些都无不影响着他的译品成为原作的“完美对等物”。)
