为了更好地展现人性主题，戈尔丁有意在蝇王中使用在戏剧中经常见到 的手法，因此在这部小说中有大量的戏剧特征。本文就蝇王中的戏剧特征进 行讨论并阐释它们在小说中的作用。 本文由以下三部分组成： 第一章就小说的叙述语言进行论述。戈尔丁隐退在蝇王的人物故事之外， 极少有评论性的词句在小说中出现。小说中的人物自己在行动，推动情节的发展。 整部小说充斥着大量对白，通过对白给出了故事发生的背景，对白又组成小说主 情节高度集中，小说每一部分都推动情节的发展并揭示主题，这样就要求读者阅 读小说时注意力要高度集中。 第三章就其他三种戏剧手法进行论述。它们是戏剧式的背景，声光，机械式 降神的结尾。戏剧式的背景指背景描写分散在小说中各处，而且在一些章节开始 部分的相对较长的背景描写具有很强的视觉效果和方位感。戏剧式的背景把人物 和环境联系起来，来展示自然环境和人物心理以及为小说制造气氛。它也像戏剧 中幕布拉开那一瞬一样通过对环境进行快速的描写来吸引读者的注意。戈尔丁将 声光在其小说中摆在重要位置。小说中运用光把人物的心理和情绪提供给读者， 并用其表达小说的主题。小说中还运用声来加强场景的气氛、预示情节的发展并 展示人物的内心。声光还被一起使用来制造一个令人震撼无法忘却情景。蝇王 还采用机械式降神的结尾来表达人性的主题以及戈尔丁所生活的非虚构的混乱 的世界。
