摘要 新千年伊始，生态环境危机四伏，全球气候变暖，海洋被过度捕捞，沙漠迅猛扩展，森 林急剧减少，淡水极度匮乏，物砖加速灭绝，支配人类社会突飞猛进、为所欲为的价值观、 世界观已经遭到质疑。继女性批评、后殖民批评之后，2 0 世纪8 0 年代以来渐渐形成了又 一个颠覆性批评派别生态批评，现在已发展成为一门显学，受到不同国家、不同领域专 家学者的关注。生态批评方法可以对任何形式的文学艺术加以透视、加以评判。相应地，通 过对文学艺术的生态解读，人们能学习吸收其中的生态意识，指导日常行动，为环保事业增 砖添瓦。本文第一章介绍了生态批评诞生的时代大背景，生态批评的定义，发展历程和理论 根源，以及其中包涵的主要生态主张。 罗伯特弗罗斯特是2 0 世纪美国最杰出的诗人之一。他一生笔耕不辍，创作了大量脍 炙人口的名篇，享有同时代的其他美国诗人所难以比拟的荣誉。他的许多优秀的诗歌作品以 自然诗居多，其语言质朴，意境优美，寓意深刻，深受国内外读者喜爱。但传统的读者和评 论家多能看到其诗中体现了人与自然的某种关系。却很少深究两者是怎样的关系，更没有发 掘诗歌背后隐藏的诗人的生态意识。事实上，在这样一个生态危机四伏的时代，了解弗罗斯 特这样一个影响广泛、拥有相当数量读者群的诗人的生态意识是非常具有现实意义的。本文 将尝试对弗罗斯特诗歌中体现的生态意识进行多方位的概括、梳理和论证，并进一步探讨诗 人的生态意识带给我们的启示。 本文第二部分着重对弗罗斯特的诗作进行生态解读。本文作者认为，弗罗斯特的生态意 识可以用以下三点进行概述：1 ) 入类是自然的一部分；2 ) 人类依赖自然；3 ) 有些诗中透 露出人类中心主义的观点。 首先，弗罗斯特认为人类与其他生物相比，没有太多值得骄傲的地方，他们仅仅是自然 的一部分，这一观点在“a tw o o d sg a r d e n ”等诗中有清晰的体现。其次，人类是依赖自然 而生存的。一方面，自然是人类智慧的源泉，在 t n n eo i l r - 诗中，自然如同书籍一般承载 着知识和启迪； b i r c h e s 也是弗罗斯特“始于快乐，止于智慧”的创作模式典型例子。另一 方面，自然满足了人类精神和心理的需求，若没有自然满足人类对威胁、恐惧、迷失和神秘 的需求，那么人类就无法拥有多姿多彩豹情感经历和精神生活。 m e n d i n gw a l l ”、 b o n f i r e ， “f o ro n c e , t h e ns o m e t h i n g 都反映了他的这种观点。最后，不可否认，在个别诗中也体现 出了弗罗斯特的“人类中心主义”观点，例如 t h e c e n s u s t a k e r 和 o u r h o l d o nt h e p l a n e t 中都带有这种思想倾向。 通过细读，本文作者还发现，弗罗斯特不但在一些诗中为现代人勾勒出人与自然密不可 分的关系，而且在另一些诗中还教给我们如何与自然和谐相处。酋先，我们应有节制地开发 自然，弗罗斯特的代言人在 t h eg u mg a t h e r e r 中就表明了弗罗斯特的立场。其次，我们应 回报自然， a t u f fo f f l o w e r 、 r o s ep o g o n i a s 、 w e s t -
