摘要 为了更深入地了解语言的本质，西方语言学家很早就开始讨论不同语言的结 构和功能之问的差异，逐渐形成了对比语言学。虽然众多西方学者一直致力于对 比语言学的研究，但对比领域多侧重于语音，词汇和语法的层面。然而对语言本 身的对比研究，并不能从众多语言现象中认识到语言的本质，因为语言不是一个 自足的系统，除了本身具有的语言要素外，其表述必须参照思维的过程，其结构 与人类的概念知识，身体经验以及语言的功能相关，并以其为理据。因而，近年 来西方对比语言界热衷于从语篇层面上开展语言的对比研究，这是因为语篇的构 建过程就是人们思维过程在语言上的折射，从语篇层面的对比研究可以对语言和 人类思维之间的关联进行深刻的反思。 相比之下，英汉比较语言学在中国起步较晚，以1 8 9 8 年马氏文通的问 世为开始的标志，这也是汉语语言学未能自成一体，汉文化传播困难重重的原因 之一。直到2 0 世纪8 0 年代，随着我国对外交流的扩大，外语人才的需求大大增 加，同时对外汉语的教学也不断发展，英汉比较研究才得到应有的重视。前人的 研究大多只是采用定性分析的方法，缺少语言数据的实证；仅从传统的语音、词 汇、语法角度对两种语言进行对比，未将非语言因素纳入研究范畴；而且这些对 比更多体现出的只是两种语言之间的差异，忽略了语言共性的一面。 基于此本文尝试从主位推进模式这个角度对英汉语篇进行定量的分析来深 入了解英汉思维与其语言之间的关联，这是因为主位推进模式是语言在语篇构建 过程中可量化的结构性衔接手段。 本文随机抽取英汉样文各2 5 篇，涵盖叙事性。辩论性描写性，说明性和 指导性五种语篇类型，其中语料主要来自中国大学生英语和汉语写作指导用书。 然后，笔者分析出七种主位推进模式主位同一模式，述位同一模式，直线延 续模式，交叉接应模式，主位派生模式，述位派生模式和空主位推进式在所 抽取的两种语言语料中的分布情况。 通过对英汉主位推进模式的对比研究，本文发现英汉语言在语篇世界的构建 中所采用的主位推进模式基本相同，但英语语篇采用主位同一模式和交叉接应模 1 1 1 式的频率显然要高于汉语语篇，而汉语在语篇构建过程更倾向于使用空主位推进 模式。 由此。本文认为i ) 语篇构建的核心内容来自人类所共享的世界知识，这是 各种语言语篇构建的共性，从而决定了英汉语篇在主位推进模式上有着相似性； 2 ) 而两者之间的差异又体现出英汉两种语言具体思维方式在语篇上的折射，英 语语篇当中更多采用平行式模式和交叉接应模式，体现出英语线性思维方式的特 点，而汉语模糊性思维方式又影响到空主位模式在汉语语篇中出现的频率。这一
