进行分析。同时本文还对学生进行了问卷调查，借 此来了解学生对英语写作中衔接知识的掌握情况。经分析发现，学生的作 文分数与衔接手段应用的总数并无相关。但是，作文分数与学生使用的连 词衔接和词汇衔接则密切相关。 在此基础上，本文分析了这类学生衔接手段使用的特点和问题，如， 指代不清，“t h e ”误用、连接词误用和简单重复太多等等，并进一步总结 是一个非常复杂的过程。用外语写作则更难。长期以来，我国大学英语四级考试的写 作平均分一直在5 7 分之间徘徊。如何写出既有意义又符合语法规则的句子一直是中 国学生特别非英语专业学生在学习过程中的难题。然而这还是不够的，英语教师在批 改学生作文时仍然感到每个孤立的句子在语法上是正确的，但整篇文章缺乏连贯性。 语言学家普遍认为衔接是创建英语语篇连贯不可或缺的部分。但国内研究人员更 多的侧重于衔接理论的研究，对衔接手段进行定量研究相对较少，并多以英语专业学 生为讲究对象。鉴于此，本文以韩礼德和哈桑提出的语篇衔接理论为依据，分析中国 非英语专业学生写作质量与衔接手段之间的关系以及衔接手段使用的特征，并对产生 这些问题的研究进行探讨，并希望此项研究能为大学英语写作教学提供一些启示。 本文共分为六章。 第一章为本论文的引言部分，介绍了本研究的背景、研究目的并简单介绍了全文 各个章节的主要内容。 第二章为文献综述部分。本章首先介绍了韩礼德和哈桑衔接理论的定义以及学者 对于这一理论观点的争议。语言学界的主要批评意见可以总结为以下几点：l 、认为语 篇中确有衔接现象，但应根据语篇中的命题的发展来研究衔接，是言外之力决定语篇 连贯( w i d d o w s o n , 1 9 7 8 ，b r o w n & y u l e ，1 9 8 3 ) ；2 、连贯与衔接之间的因果关系( m o r g a n & s e l l n e r , 19 8 0 ) ；3 、存在衔接机制也不能保证语篇是连贯的( e n k v i s t , 19 7 8 ) 。关于这些 批评意见，我国学者朱永生( 1 9 9 7 ) 认为是由于一些学者对韩礼德和哈桑衔接理论的 误解。韩礼德和哈桑在英语的衔接一书中并没有说语篇的衔接机制能够决定语篇 连贯，相反他们认为衔接是构成语篇连贯的必要而不是充分条件。接着本章回顾了国 内外学者有关衔接手段在英语写作中作用的研究，主要体现为作文质量和衔接手段相 关性的研究，但他们的研究结果差异很大。有的研究结果表明两者相关 ( b a m b e r g ，1 9 8 3 ) ；而有的研究( p r i t e h a r d ，1 9 8 0 ) 却发现两者并无相关；有的学者 ( e l i e r , 1 9 7 9 ：2 5 4 2 5 6 ，m c c u l l e y , 1 9 8 5 ) 则发现作文质量和使用的衔接手段的总数没有相 关，但与衔接手段中词汇衔接手段相关。国内研究人员( 胡壮麟，1 9 9 4 ；张德禄，2 0 0 0 ： 1 0 3 0 0 5 ，2 0 0 1 ，2 3 2 8 ；朱永生，1 9 9 7 ：3 5 3 7 ，2 0 0 1 ) 则更多的侧重于理论的研究， i i i 福建师范大学同等学力硕士学位论文 对衔接手段进行定量研究相对较少，并多以英语专业学生为讲究对象。以非英语专业 学生作为对象，来调查和研究英语写作中衔接手段的使用的学者并不多。因此，有必 要进一步的探讨非英语专业学生的作文质量和他们所用的衔接手段之间的相关性，并 且对他们所用的衔接手段的特征进行归纳、总结。 第三章为理论依据部分。本章具体探讨了韩礼德和哈桑( 1 9 7 6 ) 有关衔接手段的 分类和定义，即：指称、替代、省略、连接和词汇衔接。指称是衔接手段中最明显的 一种，表示某个项目自己不能解释自己，而是必须到其他地方寻求的现象。指称主要 分为三大类：人称指称、指示指称和比较指称。替代表达的不是对等关系，而是同类 关系。主要由语法手段来体现，可以分为三大类：名词性替代、动词性替代和小旬替 代。省略与替代表达的衔接类型基本相同，只是每个同类项目出现时不是被替代，而 是被省略。连接表示两个语段之间的联系，所以它不是表示直接的衔接关系，而是间 接的衔接关系。连接关系十分复杂。韩礼德和哈桑把它们归纳为四个类型：附加、相 反、原因和时间。最后一种是词汇衔接。词汇衔接表达一种具体且复杂的意义关系， 包括相同、相似、相近和相反关系。韩礼德和哈桑把它们归纳为两大类：复现和词汇 搭配。 了归纳，如：词汇衔接使用最多( 6 2 9 1 ) 其次是指称衔接( 2 7 0 9 ) ，而连接衔接则 最少( 9 9 9 ) 。在指称衔接手段的使用上，学生使用人称指称最多，其次是指示指称， 比较指称用的最少。连接衔接中，学生使用附加连接最多，相反、原因和时间连接手 段的使用较少。在词汇衔接方面，学生使用词汇重复的比例最大，而同义词和上义则
