山东师范大学硕士学位论文 摘要 唐德里罗( 1 9 3 6 一) 是美国最为著名的后现代派小说家之一。迄今为止， 他共著有1 4 本小说、1 5 篇短篇故事、8 个剧本( 其中有一篇未发表) 、一部中篇 小说和其它作品。白噪音是其第八部小说，发表于1 9 8 5 年。自发表之日起， 该小说受到了极大关注以及评论界的广泛评论。它荣膺美国图书奖，并获国家图 书评论界奖的提名。对于该书是不是属于后现代派小说范畴，评论家们莫衷一是。 但无人否认，该书涉及了当代美国的诸多问题：消费主义的盛行、大众媒体的泛 滥、环境的恶化、婚姻家庭问题以及精神危机等等。 本论文试图运用马斯洛需要层次理论来分析白噪音中人们不同层次需要 满足的情况来分析后现代美国人的生存状态。包括序论和结论，论文共分为六部 分。 第一部分为序论。首先介绍了白噪音的创作背景，德里罗的生平、文学 生涯及其文学成就；然后论述了该小说的主要情节，对该小说研究的文献综述； 最后介绍了需要层次理论在本文中的应用。 第一章主要探讨了由美国人本主义心理学家马斯洛提出并发展了的需要层 次理论。根据其理论，人的需要一般说来可分为五个层次由低到高依次排列：生 理需要、安全需要、归属和爱的需要、尊重需要和自我实现需要。 第二章主要分析安全需要的困境，安全需要是影响小说人物活动的最重要的 因素。需要层次的第一层为生理需要。生理需要在任何社会除了特别情况外都能 得到基本满足。而对于小说中所描绘的社会来说，该社会物质生产尤为丰富。论 文通过讨论该社会物质富足来说明该后现代主义社会为人们满足生理上的需要 提供了坚实的物质基础。但物质丰富并不能保证其他层次需要的满足。接下来笔 者讲述了人们在物质安全需要和心理安全需要方面未被满足的安全需要。人们遭 受来自外部世界和内部世界的噪音。各种类型的大众媒体的噪音充斥着人们的生 活；环境污染损害着人们的健康。更为严重的是他们内在的噪音死亡恐惧。 尽管他们尽力消除这种恐惧，仍逃避不了它的影响。从总体意义上讲，安全需要 没有得到较好的满足。 第三章详尽论述了归属感与爱的缺失。社会中的人都有归属于某个集体、爱 山东师范大学硕士学位论文 别人并被人爱的需要。后现代社会中的人也不例外。但与他们的意愿相反，他们 不能从亲属朋友中获得归属感与爱的满足。在该部分中，笔者以主人公杰克为例 讲述了后现代婚姻家庭所存在的问题。与此同时，笔者也讨论了一些次要人物身 上归属感与爱的缺失。导致这一困境的原因很多，诸如社会人口流动性大，传统 家庭观念的抛弃和媒体的影响。其中媒体的影响为主要因素，因此笔者对媒体的 负面影响作了重点讨论。大众媒体向人们提供了过多的新闻、肥皂剧、广告，阻 碍了人们之间思想和情感的交流。 第四章分析了尊重需要的困境，重点分析了杰克为满足此层次需要而付出的 努力，但这种努力最终归于失败。通过创立希特勒研究，杰克在某种程度上受到 了他人的尊重，但是他的这种尊重感觉并不强烈，因为他的成功并不是通过真才 实学获得的而是通过其他非理性的手段。最终的结果是他并没有满足他的尊重需 要。同时，小说中还有一些人譬如海因里希、汤米罗伊福斯特、奥列斯特、 威利明克等人为了满足他们尊重的需要所做出的匪夷所思的努力，但是结果还 是以失败告终。在这一方面失败的原因不光在于他们自己，其所处的社会也难逃 其咎。 结论总结全文，进而指出文本研究的意义所在。通过运用马斯洛的需要层 次理论，我们能够了解后现代社会中的美国人在安全需要、归属和爱的需要、尊 重需要方面得不到满足的深层次原因。因此这对于我们当今要努力创建一个和谐 社会有着积极的意义。 关键词：白噪音；需要层次理论；需要；满足 分类号：1 1 0 6 山东师范大学硕士学位论文 a b s t r a c t d o nd e l i u o ( 19 3 6 -
