西南交通大学硕士研究生学位论文第1 页 摘要 现代文体学的发展极大地受惠于西方现代语言学，同时索绪尔对共时研究 的重视也深深影响了后来的文体学家，文体的历时分析直未得到普遍重视。 但近几十年来，文体学的研究范围不断扩大，对非文学体裁和口语的分析成果 丰硕。另一方面，数理统计方法的引入使文体研究日益细致精密，这为文体的 历时研究提供了基础和条件。 本文旨在依据系统功能文体学相关理论，借鉴程雨民教授的语体计量方 法，对英国泰晤士报( n l et i m e s ) 新闻报导( n e w sr e p o n i n g ) 之正式程度( d e g r e e o f f o 肌a l i t y ) 作历时分析，并探究其变化原因。 英文s t y l e 一词在本研究中指语篇的文体特征( 风格) ，它体现于对各语 言成份的具体选择。e n k v i s t s p e n s e r 认为在一定语境下任何具有文体意义 ( 能表现突出的文体风格) 的语言成份即为文体标记( s t y l j s t i cm a r k e r ) ，这与 功能文体学的“突出”( f o r e g r o u n d i n g ) 概念致。m a k h a l l i d a y 进而把突 出分为两类：违反常规( 否定的) 和符合常规( 肯定的) 。后者指与语篇的整 体意义有关的显著性( p r o m i n c n c e ) 。h a l i i d a y 坚持显著性与频率( f r e q u e n c y ) 有关，他认为如果一部作品，一个作家或一个时代中有可识别的文体风格的话， 其区别性质归根结蒂可以用相对频率来表示。 风格具有时代性。早在魏晋南北朝时期，刘勰在其文心雕龙中就论述 到：“黄、唐淳而质：虞、夏质而辨，商、周丽而雅，楚、汉侈而艳，魏、晋 浅而绮，宋初讹而新。”g e o 箭e yl e e c h 对偏离( d 劓i a t i o n ) 的分类串就有一类为 历史时代的偏离，类似于中国学者陶东风所谓的时期风格( p e r i o ds t ) ，l e ) 。 风格可以从不同角度加以讨论。但对风格的比较必须在同一角度进行。本 研究着眼于正式程度这一最常提到的文体特征。首先从字位、词汇、语法三个 层面比较八个文体标记( 段落长度；缩约形式，首字母缩写词，字母长度；句 长，句子复杂性，语态以及句型i t i s t 1 1 a t ) 在不同年代的出现频率，分 析所选语料在正式程度方面的变化，进而从语境入手分析其变化的语境根源。 分析结果表明，各文体标记均不同程度地显示出泰晤士报新闻报导的正式 程度总体上在持续降低。尽管变化速度平缓，但总体方向一致。对语境的分析 显示出语场( 不同时期的话题焦点) 有一定的变化倾向。语旨的变化体现在正 式程度、避免直接称呼( i m p e r s o n a l i t y ) 的降低以及可理解程度( a c c e s s i b i l i 聊的 提高。 西南交通大学硕士研究生学位论文第1 i 页 引起正式程度变化的原因很多，本文试图从新闻语言的功能、语言系统、 文化及社会背景入手，分析了新闻英语日益加强的功能( 报导和感染功能) ， 语言在语音、词汇、句法层次的简化，英语散文的变化趋势以及社会的发展变 化对正式程度的影响。 本文分析所采用的语料均选自1 9 0 0 年到2 0 0 0 年泰晤士报的新闻报导，共 2 2 0 篇( 语场分析部分共3 1 0 篇) ，2 3 2 0 旬，6 3
