摘要 詹姆斯鲍德温( 1 9 2 4 - 1 9 8 7 ) 是二十世纪美国最重要的黑人作家之一。本文 通过细读他的三部小说，向苍天呼吁、假如比尔街能够说话、就在我的头 顶之上认为鲍德温小说中存在种世俗化倾向，作者意欲否认世俗与神圣的两 元对立，力图寻求两者之间的联结，在世俗世界中实现基督教精神。 受难与救赎的基督教思想贯穿于上述小说之中。总体而言，小说人物的受难 大体都是因为教会对世俗欲望和享乐的否定。唯有像耶稣基督一样服务他人与关 爱他人才从中获得自己的人性价值，得以救赎。向苍天呼吁中的约翰、假如 比尔街能够说话的方尼、就在我的头顶之上中的朱莉亚这三位历经各种精 神和肉体磨难的主入公都莫不如此。 尽管如此，世俗化的思想在凡部小说中都有不同程度的体现。从一开始向 苍天呼吁中对上帝的质疑、到假如比尔街能够说话中世俗的宗教之爱和后 来就在我的头顶之上中鲜明的教堂之外精神服务，世俗化的倾向逐渐强烈， 表明一度做过少年牧师的鲍德温基于种种考虑希望在教堂之外实现基督教精季孛。 本研究在历史的维度下把握鲍德温小说中基督教思想的变化，明确其世俗化倾向 的表征，不仅有助于更好地理解鲍德温及其历史地位，也有助子加深对当代非裔 美国文学传统的认识。 关键词：詹姆斯鲍德温：向苍天呼吁；假如比尔衡能够说话：就 在我的头顶之上；世俗化倾向 a b
