y 摘要 纳撒尼尔霍桑是l9 世纪美国最伟大的浪漫主义作家之一，也是心理描写 大师。七角楼是他继红字之后的又一力作。本文主要运用美国人本主 义心理学家马斯洛的需要层次理论对故事中主要人物心理需要的满足情况进 行详细系统的分析，从而揭示出霍桑的人文关怀和对精神家园的追求，这种解 读方式为进步研究七角楼及霍桑的其他作品提供了相对新颖的视角。 本文从生理需要、安全需要、归属和爱的需要、自尊需要和自我实现的需 要这五个层面对平民阶层、知识分子阶层以及贵族阶层进行深入的心理分析， 发现他们都经历了相当复杂的心理需要满足过程。平民菲比虽然寄人篱下，却 因自信能干赢得了爱、归属感以及自尊，并渴望建立自己的家园，而贫民儿纳 大叔虽然生活艰苦，却因勤劳工作和乐于助人丽受到尊重，希望过悠闲自在的 生活；自立自强的知识分子木匠马修莫尔和霍尔格雷渥虽然掌握了大量的科 学知识，热衷于实现社会平等，可是缺乏爱心和同情心；落魄的贵族赫普兹芭 和克利福德在生理需要的支配下依靠小店生存，并感受到来自外部陌生世界和 权贵的威胁，缺乏安全感和归属感，只希望能与家人过平静生活；权贵品钦上 校和品钦法官生活富裕，生命却受到遗传病的威胁，他们的自尊建立在通过迫 害他人而积累的财富和地位之上，既不稳定又不健康。品钦法官猝死后，平民 成员菲比和凡纳大叔、知识分子霍尔格雷沃以及没落贵族赫普兹芭和克利福德 才各自完成了自我实现。这暗示了霍桑对健康的人性，和谐的人际关系，以及 健康和谐的社会的向往。 由于人们所处的社会阶层以及接受教育程度的不同，心理需要的满足也各 有差异，而社会的剧烈变化更加剧了这种差异，因此社会上普遍存在着这五层
