小说的结构、主题以及作家斯坦贝克的创作思想。八十年代以来，学者对该著作的研 究包含了更为广泛的丰题、方法和视角。董衡巽教授针对斯坦贝克小说的主题和人物 塑造方面做了大量研究。 本文是在借鉴前人关于主题研究成果的基础上来解读斯坦贝克的愤怒的葡 萄的，旨在考察斯坦贝克的主题创作与二十世纪三十年代美国社会之间的关系，从 而揭示小说的主题：乔德一家在固有的精神品质的基础上，在经历西迁过程中的种种 磨难后，最终所产生的思想转变与精神升华，即从只关心小家庭利益到关爱所有受压， 迫人群，把自己看做是社会大家庭的一员。 本文共分为四章：为分析方便起见，有必要介绍解斯坦贝克创作该作品的背景， 因而本文第一章将简单介绍愤怒的葡萄的故事情节以及当时美国的社会背景，包 括经济背景和生态背景。二十世纪三十年代，美国在经济危机影响下大量工厂倒闭， 工人失业，同时，由于长期遭受干旱和沙尘暴，美国万顷良田化为荒漠，无数农民背 井离乡，流离失所。本文第二章论述了文章主角乔德一家固有的优良品质，包括注重 家庭团结、艰苦奋斗精神、互助合作精神以及积极乐观的人生态度，而这些优良品质 也正是乔德一家实现思想彻底转变的精神基础。这一章也揭示了斯坦贝克创造该小说 的精神目的，即唤醒美国人民对传统优良品质的坚守，从而尽快共同度过社会大萧条
