美国总统就职演说辞的文体分析 摘要 演讲是口语表达的一门艺术，它随着人类的诞生而出现，并随着社会的 进步而发展。美国总统候选人竞选的一个重要途径就是通过演讲宣传自己的 政治主张，让国民了解自己，以博得民众支持。二百多年来，从乔治华盛 顿到乔治w 布什，总统们通过就职演说表达其美好愿望和英雄梦想，展 示其雄才大略和施政纲领。演说词通常是由美国最著名的一批文学家或文理 俱佳的“讲稿撰写人 推敲定夺，力求逻辑严密，语调铿锵。因此，这些演 说不仅是他们的施政纲领，而且是展现总统个人文采的重要途径之一。演说 辞不乏华章丽句，具有相当的审美情趣。 论文选材取自3 7 位美国总统自1 7 8 9 到2 0 0 5 年以来的5 5 篇就职演说辞。 文章将采取文献分析法以及内容分析法来展开研究，旨在证实作者的三个假 设：( 1 ) 演讲语言的选用是由其特定的语境决定的，兼有口语与书面语的特 征；( 2 ) 演讲与日常对话以及普通言语有很大的区别，它以一种不同寻常的 方式在一个特别的场合实现其预期的目的。因此，其语言的组织、运用和表 达有其自身的特点。( 3 ) 时跨两个多世纪的演说辞，其语言特色随着社会的 进步和时间的迁移发生了一定的变化。 据此假设，作者主要依据h a l l i d a y k e c h ，s h o r t 等的现代文体学理论与文 体分析方法以及t c h i s o n ，l a b o v 等的语言变化理论，从三个方面分析研究 了选材，即语言分析、文本分析和语境分析。具体分为词汇特征、句法特征、 修辞特征、语境分析以及语言变化五个研究视角。 通过分析研究，作者证实了以下假设：( 1 ) 语言是一种意义潜势，语言 的使用就是从这种潜势中做出选择的过程，而这又是由语境决定的，演说的 效果主要取决于演讲者对于语场、语旨、语式的理解程度；( 2 ) 演讲中有许 多极富感染力的词汇和大量的比喻、排比、重复等修辞手法，使语言更为生 动形象，同时也有许多内容更为抽象的词，使演讲听起来更神圣庄重。演讲 者使用的语言技巧是为了达到其特定的目的，其语言特点与产生演讲的特定 条件和演说的目的分不开；( 3 ) 语言的一个重要方面是它从来都不是静止不 变的。为了适应它所服务的社会，语言总是处在不断变化之中。时跨两个多
