内容提要前指作为重要的衔接手段之一。一直是语言研究的热点。传统的语法学者提出一种对代词前指理解的理论模式，即读者只需要在前指词附近的语境找寻到一直接的表达便可确认其为该代词的先行词，或代词的所指。但是它却不能用来解释代词前无明显先行词的情况。本文的作者试图用埃尔瑞尔的可及性理论来解释文本中存在的间接前指现象。由于可及性理论提出了指称词和各种语境提取难易程度之间的一种规约化的关系而常常被用来解释指称词语的所指。本文首先简单介绍了可及性理论和间接前指，继而对英文短篇小说莉莉安的故事中的代词进行分析。在分析过程中，作者首先根据解释中所涉及的语境不问对间接前指进行分类，一类涉及到普通知识，另一类则与所阅读的文本特定的知识相关，随后她再在各自的类别中对代词进行分析，最终通过运用可及性理论找到真正的所指。在对所有的代词分析结束后，作者对间接前指的理解过程给出了自己的假设。通过本文对间接前指的研究，作者发现在对文本中的间接前指进行解释时，读者的认知和文本中的语言暗示都很重要，但在最终确定正确的先行词或所指时，可及性理论的突出贡献是不容忽视的。关键词：可及性理论：间接前指；普通知识；文本特定知识a
