理论家和诗人- t s 艾略特的文学生涯的研究 专业；英语语言文学方向：英美文学 硕士研究生：江慧指导教师；肖明翰 作为二十世纪最有影响力的诗人之一，t s 艾略特同时也是这一时期最重 要的批评家之一。事实上，艾略特正是通过他本人所撰写的一系列的评论性文 章，才得以建立起了不同于浪漫主义时期的新的诗歌理论，并为其诗歌的创作 和接受提供了理论依据。在其最著名的文章传统与个人才能中，艾略特提 出并阐述了其影响深远的“非个性化”理论。在文中，他首先强调了传统的重 要性，指出诗歌作品中最好的部分乃至最个性化的部分都是最有力地体现出 已故的诗人之不朽的部分。并认为诗人要获得传统就应具备一定的历史意识， 不仅要意识到过去的过去性，也要意识到过去的现在性，因为诗人无法单独具 备其完整的意义。而这种意识必须通过诗人持续不断的消除个性方能获得。接 下来，艾略特又将目光聚焦在诗人及其作品的关系上，将诗歌的创作过程比拟 为一个化学反应的过程。在他看来，诗人的头脑犹如催化剂一样，促使感受、 词句、意象组合成新的化合物。故而在诗歌创作过程中，诗人应该将感受者和 创造者两者区分开来。对于艾略特而言。诗歌是对情感的逃避，对个性的逃避， 而非相反。艾略特的诗歌创作自然也应是其“非个性化”理论的集中体现和充 分运用。然而，随着对艾略特的研究的深入，一些评论家开始注意到在艾略特 的诗歌中总会留下一些“个性化”的痕迹。这不仅反映在他早期的诗作中，即 使在其最著名的诗篇荒原里也有所体现。虽然目前已有不同评论家对此 做过相关的表述和分析，但缺乏较为完整和系统的研究和分析。 为了探寻这种理论和实践之间的距离产生的根源，本文试从“非个性化” 诗歌理论本身入手，通过对其展开全面深入的剖析，并对艾略特的一些代表诗 作中所体现的“个性化”进行分析，表明尽管艾略特试图并且事实上在其诗歌 创作中较为成功地避免了对诗人个人情感的抒发和个性的表达，但是正如艾略 特本人的创作所体现的一样，在诗歌中，情感和个性的体现是一件不可避免的 事情，是无法被彻底地、完全地消除的。从这一角度上说，艾略特的诗歌并非 一次“非个性化”对“个性化”的胜利，而应视为“非个性化”和“个性化” 两者的有机统一的产物。一方面，我们承认艾略特的“非个性化”诗歌理论以 及基于这种理论所进行的诗歌创作促使了新的诗歌形态的诞生，颠覆了人们心 中对诗歌的固有印象以及陈旧的诗歌评判标准，并影响了后来的诗歌创作。而 另一方面，我们也要认识到艾略特的个人的情感和经历与其诗歌的创作是相互 联系的。故而在对艾略特的诗歌进行理解和分析时，我们也不可忽视他本人的 生活经历对其文学创作的影响。 关键词：t s
