For example: We have three pets.2). Teacher write three categories on the blackboard, hobbies/sports, pets and school subjects. Demand the students to write out the words that they have learned.3). Students open their books. Fill in the chart based on the pictures. Teacher give a brief explanatory for the picture and the words. For example: rabbit: A rabbit is a small animal with long ears.cycle: Do you cycle to school?Parrot: Parrots are large birds. Parrots can talk like people.Science: Here, the word science means subjects like : biology, chemistry, and physics.Encourage the students to guess more words. Then lead the students to read the words. 4. Identifying hobbies and sports/ discussing preferences/giving reasons.1) Help the students to write the name of the sport or hobby under each picture.2) Teacher make a dialogue with the students based on the pictures as a model. Then students work in pairs.Some students act out.3) Making a dialogue A: Where are you from? B: I am from China.A: How old are you? B: I am sixteen.4) A: Where do you come from? B: I come from America. A: Whats your favorite sport? B: I like ice-skating because I like winter sports. A: Do you like cooking? ?B: I dont like cooking because it is boring. Identifying key ideas.1) Show the students a map, help the students to identify the following countries and their capitals: Germany, Ireland, Canada and British.2) Before listening , let the students work in pairs, introduce themselves to each other, including their age, nationality, family, pet, school, hobbies/sports.3) Make clear the listening tasks, tell the students to listen to three foreign students information, including their age, nationality, family, pet, school, hobbies/sports. 4) Play the tape for the students to listen(twice), students complete the listening task independently.5) Check the answer. Play the tape again, listen to tape one sentence by one sentence, help the students to understand the listening transcript and give some necessary explanation.2. Identifying main ideas1) Students work in pairs, make clear the information that every picture shows.2) Play the tape for the students to listen again, students complete listening task independently.3) Check the answers.Step III. Speaking1. Role play: exchange personal information1) Let students to change key words into interrogative sentences. Introducing the layout of informal letters/understanding specific points1) Teacher introduce the reading task, students reading Anns letter and Zhanghuas letter, sum up the layout of informal letters.2) Give a few minutes for the students to read the letters, then answer the questions. Teacher help the students to understand the letters by asking questions.2. Review and Warm-upMaking a dialogue1. Introducing/Revising adjectives A: Where do you live? B: I live in a small town. A: How do you think of a town? B: A town is a quiet place. A: He has no paper to write on.B: Would you please give him some? A: How do you like that TV play? B: To be honest, I dont like that TV play at all. A: How tall is your brother? B: Believe it or not, my elder brother is two meters tall. I cant wait to see your photo. A: What a population has it got? B: It has got a population of 200 000 people. A: Can you tell me something about your town? B: A river runs through our town center. There is a lot of pollution. A: Can you tell me something about your town? B: It has got many interesting sights.A: Are there anything special? B: Its the perfect place for cycling. A: Are there anything special? B: It is different from any other place in the world.A: Do you love your city? B: I love my city because there are so many places to go to.Teacher lead the students to read the adjectives in the box.1) Work in pairs. Students choose proper adjectives to describe each picture2) Whole class check the meanings of the adjectives, teacher explain some new words. For example:Polluted: Most big cites are polluted. When we say a city is polluted, people cant see a clear sky and the air is not clean. And its not good for peoples health.Relaxing: Living in a village is relaxing. It is different from living in a city. People in villages arent so busy.4) Teacher give some of these adjectives, students read out their sentences and let some students to write their sentences on the blackboard. Remind the students make sentences in different drills. e.g.My home town is a traditional small town.Living in a big city is exciting, but living in a village is boring.Most big cities are busy and crowded, while most small towns are quiet and peaceful.2. Identifying places on a map/Introducing/Revising vocabulary1) Students read the words and pictures, try completing the task.2) Teacher gives the answers and introduce modern citys installations and layout. e.g.Suburb: district outside the center part of a town of city, all big cities have suburbs. Suburbs are a bit far away from the city center, but they are connected with the city by roads.3) Teacher introduce some installations to help the students to memorize these words.Step II. Listening and Identifying speaking1.Teacher make clear listening task: Listen to part of a telephone conversation between two girls, one is Sharon and the other is Kate. Make clear that the students know the places name well.1) Play the tape for the students to listen and the students complete the task independently.2) Check the answers. Play the tape again to help the students to understand the conversation.2. Listening for specific points1) Let the students know the new words and sentences in the exercises.2) Play the tape twice for the students to complete the task.3) Check the answers. Play the tape once again, let the students to listen to the tape one sentence by one sentence. Help them to understand some sentences or phrases. For example, “ to be honest”, “Believe it or nor”, “ I cant wait”4)Role play: exchanging information Work in pairs. Make clear the task. Identifying pictures1) Give the reading task: Read the text to find the picture that is described in the text.2) Students look at the pictures to make clear each citys name.3) Students glance over the text to find which picture is Amsterdam. 2. Distinguishing between true and false statements1) Read the sentences carefully.2) Read the text again, write T for True or F for False in the boxes.3. Linking sentences using the relative pronoun which 1) Introduce the Attributive Clause.
