摘要 福克纳是二十世纪美国最重要的文学家之一，文学批评家们对他的作品著述 及评论也非常多，但纵观这些批评家们的著述，从身份这一角度去阐释福克纳的 作品的人不多，而且这些为数不多的批评家们从身份认同这个角度去探讨福克纳 的作品时皆以黑人或者混血儿为探讨目标，因为人们一般都认为只有黑人和混血 儿才有身份问题。笔者认为这是不全面的。由此可以看出从身份角度来探讨福克 纳的作品仍有许多问题待以解决，如从未讨论过某些白人的身份问题，因而值得 我们去研究。本文用艾瑞克森的身份理论和后殖民主义的身份观探讨福克纳的 八月之光和押沙龙! 押沙龙! 这两部小说中人物的身份危机。艾瑞克森 认为一个人的身份不仅是自己对自我的认识，而且也要透过别人的眼睛来观察自 我，也就是说一个人必须得到他人的承认才能建立自己的身份。他还认为人一生 要经历八个阶段，每个阶段都会面临不同的危机，因此必须要通过“流动的防卫 来确保自己的身份。后结构主义者认为身份不仅是被建构的，而且是依赖某种他 者而建构的。在此基础上后殖民主义者进一步认为人的身份不是僵化的、绝对的、 一成不变的东西，而实际上身份是动态的，因而人们应当坚守一种不确定的多重 身份来应对这个世界。本文就是应用上述艾瑞克森的身份理论及后殖民主义身份 观研究这两部小说中的四位主人公。通过研究发现，这些主人公，不管是混血儿 还是白人，都有着各自不同的身份危机，如混血儿被人忽视，不被人承认，因而 面临着被隐形的危机；而白人也面临着身份僵化的问题。由此笔者得出结论在福 克纳时代，美国南方各个阶层的人们都有着身份问题。尽管他们各自的身份问题 不同，但他们产生身份问题的原因却是极为相似的。这些原因包括清教主义、种
