摘要 本文主要通过对英汉语语篇中的衔接手段进行对比，来探讨其差异 性，以及对英汉翻译的影响。 自韩礼德和哈桑夫妇于1 9 7 6 年出版了英语的衔接( c o h e s i o ni n e n g l i s h ) 一书，此书很快在语言学界和翻译界引起很大反响，许多学者开 始对语篇的衔接理论进行研究。近几十年来，随着语用学、话语分析、社 会语言学、人类语言学等的发展，对语篇的研究越来越成为语言学研究的 一个重点，语篇衔接理论也被应用到许多领域和学科，比如对比语言学和 翻译理论和实践中。在研究过程中，不少国内外专家力图确立衔接与连贯 的关系及其在语篇生成中的地位。衔接被看作是生成语篇的必要条件之 一，因而在语篇翻译中占有重要位置。 虽然英语和汉语在衔接手段的分类方法上有很多相似之处，都大致可 以分为照应、替代、省略、连接和词汇衔接五种手段，但是英语和汉语在 衔接手段的使用上又具有各自不同的特点。一般来说，英语是一种重形合 的语言，而汉语重意合，所以和汉语相比，英语更加强调显性衔接，例如 连接词、人称代词、指示代词和替代；而汉语则较多地使用隐性衔接标志， 例如省略和重复。这将在很大程度上影响英汉翻译中对衔接手段的处理问 题。译者对于源语和译入语的这些衔接手段异同的认识和把握，不仅会影 响译者对原文的理解，而且会影响生成译文的质量。本文综合了前人对于 衔接手段及其翻译的研究，系统全面地讨论了英汉语篇衔接手段的异同和 各自特征，并且在对比分析的基础上，与翻译实践相结合，指出这些异同 和特征对翻译所造成的影响，以此来丰富翻译理论和实践，对外语教学提 供一些参考性的意见。 全文共分五个部分。第一章简要介绍了语篇及衔接理论的起源和发展 情况，对翻译的启示，以及相关概念。第二章综述了对于衔接的研究情况， 以及在国内外的研究现状。第三章在韩礼德和胡壮麟的衔接理论基础上， 对英汉语中的五种主要衔接手段进行了对比分析，探讨了其异同点和在英 汉语中的使用特点。第四章将对比的结果与翻译相结合，进行语料分析， 并且总结了五种衔接手段的翻译策略，以期对语言教学和翻译实践提供一 些参考意见；第五章得出结论，英汉语篇的衔接手段在使用上有共同点也 存在较大差异。产生差异的主要原因来自于不同文化和不同的语言特点这 两方面。语言有其文化特性，来自不同文化背景的民族有着不同的语言， 在长期的生活中，这些民族不断受自己文化的影响，产生了其不同于其他 民族的特有的意识形态的思维方式。英语和汉语分属不同语系，拥有各自 的语言特点。众多学者都认为，英语和汉语的主要区别在于英语重形合而 汉语重意合这一特点，这导致英语和汉语这两种语言在语篇衔接手段的选
