The man who molded me By Jackie(李火华) 班级:英语121班 学号:21112111 2013年5月30日The man who molded meThere is no denying that our characters are influenced by many factors, such as the environment we live, the education we receive, the culture we belong to, and the persons we meet. When looking back, I find that, to some extent, many people have made a strong impact on my temperament. But surprisingly, it is my father, a countryman, who cannot read or write, that molded me.Like millions of peasants in china, my father has an aged face covered with wrinkles, two callused hands with the veins standing out in the opisthenar and the copper-colored skin. He is not tall or strong, instead, he is a bit short and quite thin but full of strength. Recent years, age has rimed his beard and brought a gradual diminution of his strength and energy, but never has he admitted himself beaten. Born in a remote village during the Cultural Revolution, my father received no education and he is a total illiterate. So the education becomes the most cherished tradition in my family. Thats why he never takes me to dinner in expensive restaurants, but sends me to the best school. Therefore, he is a man I feel grateful to and respect most.My father is warmhearted. When I was young, he kept on telling me,” Be a kind man and always ready to help others. Never discriminate against the poor and in favor of rich.” He not only says it, but also puts it into practice. Among all my relatives, there is a single man who lives alone in an old wooden hut. He is in poor health and has already lost the ability to earn a living. It is the government relief that supports him to cover the bare necessities. Nearly all his relatives have abandoned him, ending up the relationship. Nevertheless, my father treats him warmly and often donates money, clothes and other necessities to meet his tiny demands. During the Spring Festival and other important festivals, my father even invites him to have dinner and spend the time with us. I can still remember clearly that my father was accused to the court when I was 12. My neighbor came into conflict with my father on vegetable gardens ownership. In fact, my neighbors great-grandfather sold it to my great-grandfather and we just heritage it from my grandfather. The contract was already missing when my grandfather took charge of that garden. So, knowing that we didnt have material evidence, they were thirsty for regaining that garden. But, fortunately, justice was on our side. After that, my neighbor started a cold war against us. Regardless of neighbors cold-blooded attitudes, my father still said hello to them whenever we met, although we always received no response but a satanic glance. One day two years later, my neighbors elder son had a severe car accident and thus, needed lots of money immediately for operation. My father, without any hesitation, took out all the savings to help them. We all thought my father was mad to lend money to the foe, but he responded that yesterday had passed. Not until I was in high school did I begin to comprehend his behavior. Although my father never receives any education and knows nothing about Confucianism, he has fulfilled Confucius thoughts that render good for evil. Also, my father is an independent man. As the eldest son, my father began to do all the housework at the age of 7. When he reached 9, he had to earn work points with my grandfather in production team. Five years later, my grandfather started to leave all decisions to my father. So, the 14-year-old boy needed to make all kinds of decisions and took the responsibility for the family. All the money for a new house, engagement and marriage was earned by my father with his bare hands. His independence has influenced me deeply, and he also educates me to be independent. I remember clearly that as soon as I reached the height of hearth, he asked my mom to teach me cooking. At that time, it was very common that my fingers ware shedding blood when cutting vegetables or my hands splashed the boiling oil. I wanted to give up after suffering so much pain, but my father showed no compromise, warning me,” If you dont want to starve, there is nothing you can do but learn to cook.” Frightened, I made up my mind to overcome the difficulties step by step, and little by little, I mastered it. Also, there was a time when I was left alone at home every day, forbidden going out with friends or watching television. The reason was, as he told me later, that I had to learn to bear the loneliness. Another impressive thing was that I must tackle all affairs on my own. Take my school life as an example. In my memory, except the first year in primary school and the first semester in middle school, my father neither accompanied me to register on the first day of a new term nor helped me to carry baggage after the final exams. So, on the day before the school began, I needed to pack clothes, necessities and the next day, carried the heavy luggage on my own. Unlike other parents, my father gave me the school fees and let me hand in. Therefore, I gave my whole attention to the pocket and luggage on the way to school on the first day of a new term. And unlike my friends, I got my living expenses monthly rather than weekly. Thus, I always worked out a specific budget at the beginning of each month and kept accounts every day in the past 10 years. It seems that my father is extremely strict and even a bit cruel. But, the fact is that he cares about me and loves me profoundly. On the morning of the day I set out to university, my father asked me apprehensively,” Do I need to accompany you to Nanjing?” “No, I can make it. You know that, from primary school to high school, I have many experiences.”I responded. “Butbut this time, youre going to a brand new place, which is far away from home. And you need to transform from one place to another, from one vehicle to another frequently. Moreover, you have heavier luggage. Your mom and I are worried about you.”It was the first time he had been so concerned about my safety. To comfort him, I said confidently,” Believe in me!” He gave in,” Call me when you get on the train.” “I promise!” My train was supposed to arrive at 23:15, but it was delayed for about 35 minutes. So when I got on the train and settled down, the watch hand had already passed 12 and exactly it was the next day. I hesitated for a moment at my promise, for it was too late and I didnt want to disturb their sleep. But finally, I called my father. Instantly, my father answered the phone and told me in relief, “Now, your mom and I can go to sleep without any fear. ” Hearing that, I was moved to tears. They had stayed up so late just waiting for my call.Maybe my father is just an ordinary person, but he is surly an extraordinary father in my heart.Title:The man who molded meThere is no denying that our characters are influenced by many factors, such as the environment we live, the education we received, the culture we belong to, and the persons we meet.
