Today Ill make my presentation of the first period of Unit 8 Why dont you get her a scarf? from Grade 8 () Go for it! My presentation includes 4 parts: first, analysis of the teaching objectives; second, key and different points; third, teaching procedures and the board-writing plan. l Teaching objectives(a) Language objectives:Ss will be able to use “What should I ?” to ask for advice.Ss will be able to use “How about?” to give suggestions.Ss will be able to use some words of the gifts and how to describe them.(b) Ability objectives:Ss will be able to improve their skills of speaking.Ss will be able to improve their skills of listening.Ss will be able to improve their skills of working with others.l Key and different points(a) “what” questions to ask for advice(b) The adjectives to describe qualities.l Teaching proceduresStep 1: Greeting and lead-inPresent: What should I get my mom for her birthday? How about?T: Good morning! How was your weekend?Ss: It was great/unlucky/interestingT: What did you do last weekend, Judy?S1: I did my homework.T: How about you, Tom?S2: I watched TV.T: Can you guess what I did last weekend?S3: Did you go to a movie?T: No, I didnt.S4: Did you go shopping?T: Yes, you are so clever. I went to shopping last weekend because my moms birthday is coming and I want to get her a gift. What should I get my mom for her birthday? (Write the sentence on the Bb)Help Ss answer like this: How about a pair of shoes? / How about a watch? .(Present the new sentence pattern by talking about what the teacher did last weekend. This step leads into the topic: gifts, and attracts Ss attention to the class. )Step 2: PresentationPresent: cheap, expensive, boring, interestingS3: How about a car?T: No, thats too expensive.S3: How about a book?T: No, thats too boring and too cheap.S4: How about a CD?T: Thats interesting. I think my mom will like it. Thank you.(Present the adjectives by asking for Ss advice and giving comments. This will help Ss understand these words better.)Present: scarf, tennis balls, dictionary, camera, bicycleT shows the pictures of these things one by one.T: Ive got many gifts from my friends on my last birthday. What are they, can you guess?S1: Is it a bicycle? T: Yes, you are right. (T shows the picture of bicycle and teaches the word)Present the other words in the same way.(Let Ss guess first can give them a chance to say the new words and those who have previewed will get the feeling of success. Successfulness is important in learning English. Then teach the new words by showing the cards, it will help Ss memorize the words.)Then make Ss ask and answer in pairs to talk about what they think of these gifts.S1: How about the watch?S2: No, I think its too expensive.S1: How about the pen?S: Yes, I think its interesting.(Let Ss make meaningful conversations with the new words. It can not only help them to use the words in the situation and can also develop their skills of work with others.)Step 3: Pair workT: Suppose your moms birthday is coming. Discuss with your partner and choose a suitable gift for your mom.Let Ss do pair work like the model in Section A 1c.(Let Ss do pair work can give them more chances to practice the key words and sentence patterns. At the same time it helps improve their ability of communication and cooperation. This step can also help Ss get prepared for the following listening practice.)Step 4: Listening and imitatingT: Well done! I think your moms will be glad to receive your gifts. Please make a list of the gifts you have talked about just now and write them in Section A 1a.T: You are all good kids. Jack and Tony are also good kids. They are talking about gifts for mom, too. Look at the picture, can you guess what they think of these gifts?Let Ss talk about the picture of Section A 1a.Play the record for the first time, Ss only listen. (Section A 1b)Play the record for the second time, Ss listen and number.Play the record for the third time, check the answers and get Ss to imitate.(After Ss have learned the key words and sentence patterns, they are able to finish the listening practice easily. In this step we should encourage Ss to develop their listening skills. While listening, they are supposed to get the main idea of the conversation first, and then catch the details. Let Ss imitate is to improve their pronunciation and intonation.)Step 5: A surveyT: Suppose next week is Fathers Day. What should you get a gift for your father?
