Managers are increasingly urged to ensure companies remain profitable but also to act responsibly. Yet many managers are not equipped with the knowledge or tools to run sustainable businesses, let alone develop new businesses for which positive social and environmental outcomes are as important as profit. This course explores these issues from a global context theoretically but also from a practical level within China. Teaching Objectives This course aims to give managers and individuals the knowledge and tools to be able to apply sustainability practices to their business in a way that is both profitable to the business and to society as a whole. Assignments and RequirementsParticipation: Students should attend all lectures and be prepared to discuss topics in small groups and report back to the class. Term Project Paper: Students are expected to work in small groups to prepare a sustainable business plan for a new start-up. The business plan should be financially viable, as well as taking into consideration major environmental/social impacts. Groups will need to present their ideas based on activities outlined by the course lecturer .Groups will need to give final presentations in Week 8, and submit their group assignment (the business plan) at the same time. ALL PAPERS TO BE DOUBLE-SPACED and FOLLOW PROPER CITATION STYLE, i.e. APA Style.
