XU Jinshan 2009012570A Look into My IntelligenceIntelligence is one of the most amazing terms in the scientific world. Therefore, I find it interesting to look into my own intelligence. The following is my analysis.Among my primary mental abilities, my memory and verbal fluency are my strengths. First of all, I have a fairly good memory. I remember I could spell almost every new English word and recall its meaning clearly when I was in elementary school. Besides, I can fluently express myself verbally. When I am talking to other people, I can quickly find the right words to say and pronounce them clearly. Thanks to my verbal fluency, I have been chosen to host a couple of performances both inside and outside school. However, I do not have outstanding numerical and visual-spatial ability. Firstly, I am not so good at numbers. I often make mistakes when calculating numbers or solving mathematical equations. I do not have strong visual-spatial ability, either. I remember I was lost on campus many times during my first few weeks at Tsinghua University. I could not even find the right teaching building even though I had already had several classes there.I am never the smartest student in my class, but I can always find a way to shine. That is because I always make full use of my strengths. For example, since I am good at expressing myself verbally, I have participated in many speech contests and have impressed many people. I have also joined the Harvard Model United Nations Sessions where high school students work as little diplomats, negotiating and cooperating with each other on projects and papers.Although many scientific studies and researches have indicated positive correlation between intelligence and hereditary factors, I believe environment plays a greater role in determining intelligence. In my opinion, all of us have got potentials for certain things, but only environmental factors can bring them out. For example, you may not think of yourself as a great singer. However, if your friends love singing very much and always ask you to sing along with them, your potential for singing could be tapped.In conclusion, I have several strong primary mental abilities such as a good memory and great verbal fluency. However, my numerical and visual-spatial ability are relatively weak. Although I am not a very intelligent person, I make full use of my merits. As a result, I have accomplished many great things.
