North and South locked in a bitter conflict for the future of America. In order to meet the need of armament, modern technology such as new bullet and musket came forth, combining with much more ancient tactics, which made the war specifically tragic. Across the battlefield the results were carnage. In August 1862, over a year into the war, General Robert E Lees Confederate Army, was readying to launch a wide ranging assault, against Union forces in Virginia. After several battles succeed, Lee were very confident to gain a big victory. However, at that time, Lincoln was fighting a totally new kind of war with the developing rail infrastructure. In September 1862, Lincoln gave the South an ultimatum - rejoin the union, but the South ejected it. At that time, Lincoln was in no mood to negotiate. Lincoln was increasingly forced to fight on a very different front - the war for public opinion. By the spread of portable cameras, gory images of the battlefield reached every home. And the voice of stopping the war came from the public. Lincoln On January 1st, 1863, Lincoln issued a proclamation abolishing slavery in the rebellious Southern states, Thanks to the telegraph, the news quickly spread. And on May 26th, 1865, South threw up the sponge entirely which meant the end of the four-year American Civil War.5- QUIZ: 1. When was the Civil War? 2. What was 1 cause of the CW? 3.
