(只要看一眼这封信) _ , will convince you that you have been taken in. 2. Please dont stand in the kitchen, youre_ (挡路了) . 3. _ (如果暴露在空气中) , iron will react with the oxygen of the air. 4. _ (对听到的事情感到震惊) , he placed both his hands on his mouth. 5. Wed better struggle for the future _ (而不是为过去而懊悔) . 参考答案及解析: 1. A glance at this letter 这种句型必然要使用倒装,而不该用as long as you . or if you .。在部分倒装的句子中,只把谓语的一部分(如情态动词、助动词、或是系动词be)放到主语的前面去,构成倒装语序。will convince you前面的应该是一个整体,a glance at this letter这里是作一个名词性从句作主语。 2. in the way stand in the way是标准的“挡路”的英语表述。当时中学的时候还特意记下了一个句子来调侃的:Dont stand in the way or Ill knock you flat!别挡路,否则打扁你! 3. If exposed to the air be exposed tobe exposed to 遭受, 暴露于.这是一个固定的用法哦! 4. Shocked at what he had heard 这题两个翻译的点在于:“震惊”和“听到的事情(过去完成时)”,只要这两点翻译出来基本就可以。shock/astonish/surprise另外就是had heard。 5. rather than regret for the past 这题相对比较简单,大部分沪友都能正确地翻译出来。可以用rather than/not to等来表示转折,后面统一都是用regret for the past.-08年大学英语六级试题5For many people today, reading is no longer relaxation. To keep up their work they must read letters, reports, trade publications, interoffice communications, not to mention newspapers and magazines: a never-ending flood of words. In _1_ a job or advancing in one, the ability to read and comprehend _2_ can mean the difference between success and failure. Yet the unfortunate fact is that most of us are _3_ readers. Most of us develop poor reading _4_ at an early age, and never get over them. The main deficiency _5_ in the actual stuff of language itself-words. Taken individually, words have _6_ meaning until they are strung together into phrased, sentences and paragraphs. _7_ , however, the untrained reader does not read groups of words. He laboriously reads one word at a time, often regressing to _8_ words or passages. Regression, the tendency to look back over _9_ you have just read, is a common bad habit in reading. Another habit which _10_ down the speed of reading is vocalizationsounding each word either orally or mentally as _11_ reads. To overcome these bad habits, some reading clinics use a device called an _12_, which moves a bar (or curtain) down the page at a predetermined speed. The bar is set at a slightly faster rate _13_ the reader finds comfortable, in order to “stretch” him.The accelerator forces the reader to read fast, _14_ word-by-word reading, regression and subvocalization, practically impossible. At first _15_ is sacrificed for speed. But when you learn to read ideas and concepts, you will not only read faster, _16_ your comprehension will improve. Many people have found _17_ reading skill drastically improved after some training. _18_ Charlce Au, a business manager, for instance, his reading rate was a reasonably good 172 words a minute _19_ the training, now it is an excellent 1,378 words a minute. But we need to go further. We must ask some fundamental questions about the future work. Should we continue to treat employment as the norm? Should we not rather encourage many ways for self-respecting people to work? Should we not create conditions in which many of us can work for ourselves, rather than for an employer? Should we not aim to revive the household and the neighborhood, as well as the factory and the office, as centers of production and work? The industrial age has been the only period of human history in which most peoples work has taken the form of jobs. The industrial age may now becoming to an end, and some of the changes in work patterns which it brought may have to be reversed. This seems a daunting thought. But, in fact, it could offer the prospect of a better future for work. Universal employment, as its history shows, has not meant economic freedom. Employment became widespread when the enclosures of the 17th and 18th centuries made many people dependent on paid work by depriving them of the use of the land, and thus of the means to provide a living for themselves. Then the factory system destroyed the cottage industries and removed work from peoples homes. Later, as transport improved first by rail and then by road, people commuted longer distances to their places of employment until, eventually, many peoples work lost all connection with their home lives and the places in which they live. Meanwhile, employment put women at a disadvantage. In preindustrial times, men and women had shared the productive work of the household and village community. Now it became customary for the husband to go out to paid employment, leaving the unpaid work of the home and families to his wife. Tax and benefit regulations still assume this norm today, and restrict more flexible sharing of work roles between the sexes. It was not only women whose work status suffered. As employment became the dominant form of work, young people and old people were excludeda problem now, as more teenagers become frustrated at school and more retired people want to live active lives. All this may now have to change. The time has certainly come to switch some effort and resources away from the idealist goal creating jobs for all, to the urgent practical task of helping many people to manage without full-time jobs. 21.What is the main idea of the passage? A) Employment became widespread in the 17th and 18th centuries. B) Unemployment will remain a major problem for industrialized nations. C) The industrial age may now be coming to an end. D) Some efforts and resources should be devoted to helping more people cope with the problem of unemployment. 22.Which of the following was NOT mentioned as a factor contributing to the spread of employment? A) The enclosures of the 17th and 18th centuries. B) The development of factories. C) Relief from housework on the part of women. D) Development of modern means of transportation. 23.It can be inferred from the passage that_. A) most people who have been polled believe that the problem of unemployment may not be solved within a short period of time B) many farmers lost their land
