江苏省苏州市2014高考英语阅读理解寓乐于练阅读理解 (2013四川,d)home to me means a sense of familiarity and nostalgia (怀旧 ). its fun to come home. it looks the same. it smells the same. youll realize whats changed is you. home is where we can remember pain, love, and some other experiences: we parted here; my parents met here; i won three championships here. if i close my eyes, i can still have a clear picture in mind of my first home. i walk in the door and see a brown sofa surrounding a low glasstop wooden table. to the right of the living room is my first bedroom. its empty, but its where my earliest memories are.there is the dining room table where i celebrated birthdays, and where i cried on halloweenwhen i didnt want to wear the skirt my mother made for me. i always liked standing on that table because it made me feel tall and strong. if i sit at the table, i can see my favorite room in the house, my parents room. it is simple: a brown wooden dresser lines the right side of the wall next to a television and a couple of photos of my grandparents on each side. their bed is my safe zone. i can jump on it anytimewalking up my parents if i am scared or if i have an important announcement that cannot wait until the morning.im lucky because i know my first home still exists. it exists in my mind and heart, on a physical property (住宅 ) on west 64th street on the western edge of los angeles. it is proof i lived, i grew, and i learned.sometimes when i feel lost, i lie down and shut my eyes, and i go home. i know its where ill find my family, my dogs, and my belongings. i purposely leave the window open at night because i know ill be blamed by mom. but i dont mind, because i want to hear her say my name, which reminds me im home. 9why does the childhood. 阅读理解 (2013江苏,c)if a diver surfaces too quickly, he may suffer the bends. nitrogen(氮) dissolved (溶解)in his blood is suddenly liberated by the reduction of pressure. the consequence, if the bubbles (气泡)accumulate in a joint, is sharp pain and a bent bodythus the name. if the bubbles form in his lungs or his brain, the consequence can be death. other airbreathing animals also suffer this decompression(减压)sickness if they surface too fast: whales, for example. and so, long ago, did ichthy osaurs (鱿). that these ancient sea animals got the bends can be seen from their bones. if bubbles of nitrogen form inside the bone they can cut off its blood supply. this kills the cells in the bone, and consequently weakens it, sometimes to the point of collapse. fossil(化石)bones that have caved in on themselves are thus a sign that the animal once had the bends. bruce rothschild of the university of kansas knew all this when he began a study of ichthyosaur bones to find out how widespread the problem was in the past. what he particularly wanted to investigate was how ichthyosaurs adapted to the problem of decompression over the 150 million years. to this end, he and his colleagues traveled the worlds naturalhistory museums, looking at hundreds of ichthyosaurs from the triassic period and from the later jurassic and cretaceous periods. when he started, he assumed that signs of the bends would be rarer in younger fossils, reflecting their gradual evolution of measures to deal with decompression. instead, he was astonished to discover the opposite. more than 15% of jurassic and cretaceous ichthyosayurs had suffered the bends before they died, but not a single triassic specimen(标本)showed evidence of that sort of injury. if ichthyosaurs did evolve an antidecompression means, they clearly did so quicklyand, most strangely, they lost it afterwards. but that is not what dr rothschild thinks happened. he suspects it was evolution in other animals that caused the change. whales that suffer the bends often do so because they have surfaced to escape a predator (捕食动物)such as a large shark. one of the features of jurassic oceans was an abundance of large sharks and crocodiles, both of which were fond of ichthyosaur lunches. triassic oceans, by contrast, were mercifully sharkand crocodilefree. in the triassic, then, ichthyosaurs were top of the food chain. in the jurassic and cretaceous, they were prey(猎物)as well as predatorand often had to make a speedy exit as a result. 5which of the following is a typical symptom of the bends?aa twisted body. ba gradual decrease in blood supply.ca sudden release of nitrogen in blood.da drop in blood pressure. 根据第一段第二句话“the consequence, if the bubbles accumulate in a joint, is sharp pain and a bent bodythus the name”当血液中的氮气释放,聚集在关节处,结果就是剧烈的疼痛和身体的弯曲这就是bends这个名字的由来。 6the purpose of rothschilds study is to see _.ahow often ichthyosaurs caught the bendsbhow ichthyosaurs adapted to decompression cwhy ichthyosaurs bent their bodies dwhen ichthyosaurs broke their bones 答案:b细节理解题。根据第三段第二句话“what he particularly wanted to investigate was how ichthyosaurs adapted to the problem of decompression over the 150 million years.” 7rothschilds finding stated in paragraph 4 _.aconfirmed his assumption bspeeded up his research process cdisagreed with his assumption dchanged his research objectives 答案:c推理判断题。根据根据第四段第二句话“instead,he was astonished to discover the opposite.” 8rothschild might have concluded that ichthyosaurs _.afailed to evolve an antidecompression means bgradually developed measures against the bends cdied out because of large sharks and crocodiles devolved an antidecompression means but soon lost it 答案:a推理判断题。 阅读理解-athe space shuttle columbia flared and broke up in the skies over texas on saturday, february 1,2003, killing the seven astronauts on board in what nasa and president bush called a tragedy for the entire nation. nasa launched an investigation into the disaster and began searching for the astronauts remains. it said that although there had been some data failures it was too early to nail down a precise cause. the break-up, 16 minutes before the shuttle was due to land at kennedy space center in florida, spread possibly toxic debris(有毒的残骸) over a wide swath of texas and neighboring states. dramatic television images of the shuttles descent clearly showed several white trails(痕迹) streaking through blue skies after the shuttle suddenly fell apart. it was almost 17 years to the day that the challenger shuttle exploded on jan. 28, 1986, killing all seven astronauts on board. take-off and re-entry into earths atmosphere are the most dangerous parts of a space mission. in 42 years of us human space flight, there had never been an accident in the descent to earth or landing. challenger exploded just after take-off. rescue teams scrambled to search for the remains of the crew, which included the first israeli to fly on the shuttle, former combat pilot col. ilan ramon. there were warnings that parts of a vast 120-mile-long corridor of debris could be toxic because of poisonous rocket propellant(推进器). we are not ready to confirm that we have found any human remains, nacogdoches county sheriff thomas kerrs said. he added that among the roughly 1,000 calls reporting debris, some people said they found remains of crew members. the columbia is lost. there are no survivors, their mission was almost complete and we lost them so close to home. americas space program will go on, said a grim-faced bush in a message broadcast on television, which included condolences to the families of the dead astronauts.1. the word “descent” in the passage means _. a. taking off b. landing c. orbiting d. walking down答案解析:答案为b。 由第三段第二句话 “in 42 years of us human space flight, there had never been an accident in the descent to earth or landing.” 2. which is true of the israeli astronaut ilan ramon? a. he was the first israeli astronaut to fly on the shuttle. b. he was the first foreign astronaut to fly on the american shuttle. c. he used to be a passenger plane pilot. d. he was the only survivor in the columbia disaster. 由第四段第一句话 “, which included the first israeli to fly on the shuttle, former combat pilot col. ilan ramon.” 由最后一段第二句话 “there are no survivors,” 可知没有幸存者,故d选项错误。 3. the columbia disaster and the challenger disaster were similar in that _. a. there were seven astronauts killed on board b. both the shuttles exploded when they took off c. both the shuttles exploded when they were about to land d. no human remains were found答案解析:答案为a。 由第一段首句 “the space shuttle columbia flared and broke up , killing the seven astronauts on board ”和第二段最后一句 “it was almost 17 years to the day that the challenger shuttle exploded on jan. 28, 1986, killing all seven astronauts on board.” 由第三段 “in 42 years of us human space flight, there had never been an accident in the descent to earth or landing. challenger exploded just after take-off.” 由倒数第二段最后一句话 “, some people said they found remains of crew members.” 4. which of the following is wrong according to the news? a. the u.s.a. will give up the space program because of the accident. b. nasa hasnt found the cause of the columbia disaster. c. before the columbia disaster, no shuttles had exploded in the course of landing. d. take-off and re-entry into earths atmosphere are the most dangerous parts of a space mission. 由最后一段 “americas space program will go on,”可知,a选项与文章不符,故答案为a。由第一段 “nasa launched an investigation into the disaster and began searching for the astronauts remains. it said that although there had been some data failures it was too early to nail down a precise cause.” 由第三段首句 “ take-off and re-entry into earths atmosphere are the most dangerous parts of a space mission.” 阅读理解-ba lot of us lose lifes tough battles by starting a frontal attack-when a touch of humor might well enable us to win. consider the case of a young friend of mine, who was on his trapped way to work shortly after receiving an ultimatum(最后通牒) about the job. although there was a good reason for sams being late-serious illness at home-he decided that this by-now-familiar excuse wouldnt work any longer. his supervisor was probably already pacing up and down preparing a dismissal speech. yes, the boss was, sam entered the office at 9:35. the place was as quiet as a locker room; everyone was hard at work. sams supervisor came up to him. suddenly, sam forced a grin and stretched out his hand. how do you do! he said. im sam maynard. im applying for a job, which, i understand, became available just 35 minutes ago. does the early bird get the worm? the room exploded in laughter, except that the supervisor had to clamp off a smile and walked back to his office. sam maynard had saved his job-with the only tool that could win, a laugh. humor is a most effective, yet frequently neglected, means of handling the difficult situations in our lives. it can be used for patching up differences, apologizing, saying no, criticizing, getting the other fellow to do what you want without his losing face. for some jobs, its the only tool that can succeed. it is a way to discuss subjects so sensitive that serious dialog may start a quarrel. for example, many believe that comedians on television are doing more today for racial and religious tolerance than people in any other forum.1. why was sam late for his job? a. because he was seriously ill at home. b. because he received an ultimatum. c. because he was busy applying for a new job. d. because he was caught in a traffic jam. 由第一段第二句话 “, who was on his trapped way to work shortly after receiving an ultimatum about the job.” 2. what is the main idea of this passage? a. sam maynard save
