unit 5 nelson mandelaa modern heroteaching design教材版本:人教版学科:英语年级:高一册别:必修1章节:第五单元内容:warming up, pre-reading设计思路:此教学设计适用于nelson mandelaa modern hero单元第一课时(导入课,45分钟),整合了warming up, pre-reading以及speaking and wrinting中对于曼德拉的介绍部分。按一般教学程序来看,warming up, pre-reading后本该紧接reading部分,因warming up, pre-reading一般用时较少,但本课稍有特殊,因其这两部分涵盖多个重点单词及词组,所以作者将reading放入下一课时,把重点单词词组进行了详细讲解。1.analysis of the teaching material:this is a lesson in the peoples education press compulsory english 1. the topic is the great man. according to students existing knowledge, they should know some basic information of great persons.2.analysis of the students:students of senior 1 have strong curiosity and motivation and also have known something about great man. they are expected to discuss those famous persons and nelson mandela.3.teaching aims: a. knowledge aims1)key vocabulary and phrases: mean, active, generous, selfish, selfless, devoted, found, die for, be used in, fight against, set up, be sentenced to , etc.2)some important sentences: 1. he died for his ideas but his work is still used in the official bible today. 2. he fought for black people and was in prison for almost thirty years.3. thats one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind. b.ability aimsenable students to cooperate with each other.express your own ideas.c. emotion aimslearn about some good qualities.develop the students moral ability.4.key points & difficult pointskey points:1. some words and expressions related to great person. 2. understand what a great person is. teaching difficult points: how to express their own opinions.5.teaching methodstask-based approach and communicative approachlearning methodscooperative learning and inductive learning6. teaching procedure step1: warming-up1. greet to students and ask them questions and have a short discussion.question: am i a great man? is xx(one of the students) a great man?probable answer: of course no, but maybe in the future xx will be a great man.so in your mind, who is a great man?(students may list many of them.)2. after their answers, the teacher raises one more question: what qualities does he/she need?before answering the question, learn some words related to quality (page 33). for example, hard-working, lazy, friendly and so on. then back to the question what qualities a great man need. students can use the words which have just been learned to describe a great person.a great man is determined/active/selfless/brave/hard-working/step2:pre-reading1. present six pictures about six famous people. analyse the descriptions and let students think of whether they were/are great men. then give reasons.a. william tyndalehe wrote the bible in english so all could read it.he died for his ideas but his work was later used in the official bible today. b. norman bethunehe fought against the german nazis and japanese invaders during world war ii. he worked selflessly in china as a doctor and saved many chinese soldiers.c. sun yet-senhe founded the first republic in china in 1911 after many years fighting. he strongly believed in the three principles: nationalism; peoples rights; peoples livelihood.d. mohandas gandhihe gave up a rich way for his ideas and fought for his country to be free from the uk in a peaceful way. he is called “father of india”.e. nelson mandelahe fought for black people and was in prison for almost thirty years. he helped black people to get the same rights as white people.introduce nelson mandela to them with the words on page 39. let them read the little passage, then tell us what qualities they find in mandela.life of nelson mandela.18/7/1918 born near transkei (south africa)1937 entered university but did not complete degree1940 completed law degree at the university1944 formed anc youth league1952 set up law office to help poor black people in johannesburg, later this year, law office closed by government because he attacked anti-black laws1961 government by and for white people set uo in south africa sentenced to five years hard labour for encouraging violence against anti-black laws1963 anc bagan to blow up buildings1964 sentenced to prison for life on robben island for being one of the anc leaders1982 moved to a prison in cape town1990 released form prison1991 became president of the anc1993 won the nobel peace prize1994 became president of south africa6/12/2013 died in johannesburgf. neil armstronghe was the first man to land on the moon in july 1969. he said, “thats one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”here show a video about neil armstrongs landing on the moon.2. conclusion: sun yat-sen, mohandas gandhi and nelson mandela were all politicians. they all devoted themselves to their national liberation movements. of course they are great men. william tyndale sacrificed himself for religious reformation and did a great thing, translating bible in english, which gave the chance to the common people to read it. he is also a great man. norman bethune devoted himself selflessly to chinas anti-japanese cause and sacrificed at last. at this point, he is a great person. neil armstrong is a hero who made a significant contribution to human beings development. president obama admired him as a hero of all the times. step3:language points1. die for 为而死 it is a brave person who will die for his beliefs. die of 死于疾病和内在的情绪, 强调内因; nowadays many people die of cancer. die from 死于灾难、伤害、事故等, 强调外因。 princess diana died from a car accident in 1997.2. fight against 对抗;反对;与作斗争 fight for 为而战,而奋斗fight with 同并肩作战; 与战斗ill fight with you, in other words, ill support you. in world war ,britain fought against germany.he readied himself to fight for freedom.3. found vt. 创立,建立;创办 this company was founded in 1999. 这家公司创办于1999年。 found (founded, founded) 建立, 创建 find (found, found) 找到 the hospital was founded in 1920. have you found your pen?4. believe in 信仰,信任 i can believe her, but i cant believe in her. 我可以相信她的话,但我不能信赖她。5. free from 摆脱(不好的东西) he can always free from difficulties. 他总是能够摆脱困境。6. be in prison 在狱中, 被监禁 he has been in prison for five years. putin prison = sendto prison = throw into prison 把投入监狱 the thieves have been put in prison. he was sent to prison for ten years. throw that man into prison. be out of prison 出狱 escape from prison 越狱 注意零冠词现象 7. quality n. 质量, 品质 the quality of the service in this restaurant is very good. 这个饭店的服务质量很好。 kindness is a human quality which everyone admires. 仁慈是谁都称赞的人类品质 quantity n. 数量 a large /small quantity of large /great quantities offor study, c is more important than _.a. quality;
